Monster Hunter 3 Tri Official Site Updated

beats me, nostalgia I guess. It is only a few seconds and the only people it will bother are those who have never played MH before. It is a godsend over the PSP loading times though.

I am loving MH3 though, I have replayed the 1st quest about 3 times now but I get my ass handed to me in the 2nd quest.

Maybe because whether you're carrying the map or not (to free up an inventory space) they've always used that to display the map and painted dragons/players during the loads. The zelda trick would be nice, though i hope that one day we actually get the "hike" down these little paths like safe heavens. They could really do a good job of isolating the little trails while the next zone loads in seamlessly (not to mention gathering spots also), and it would sure make it more exciting the hear the dragons flying over your head.

Edit:

speaking of. I saw this image of new monster icons posted on Croda:

new monster spoilers

note the huge angler fish :D

How hard / easy is this to play without knowing any Japanese?
For weapons/armors creation and armor/item mixture you might have some problem thou. However, the web is your best friend for this.

Most of those monsters in the icons are completely new. Though, I think I spotted Monoblos there.

I want Akantor Armor again! I hope he makes it and still flinches to flashes as much as before.

My index finger hurts enough from having to turn the camera while moving with the dpad on psp. Im so happy i can do both comfortably with a wiimote and nunchuck now in 3.

So does it hold its own against the Classic Controller? Is it immersive?
It feels...different. I tried Classic controller type 2 which is the old PS2 controls, they are great still, however due to the dpad been the camera, its hard to control the characters and moving the camera at the same time. Classic control Type 1 which is the PSP controls is kinda of perfect, you attack with the 4 buttons and have the option of 2 cameras control, one dpad and one right analog. However the lack of rumble for these 2 controls is kinda sad:(

For nunchuk and wiimote, some problem most players will faced will be the Z and C, as one is for dashing and the other for centralizing the camera/item selection. It takes some time getting used to. Also the 1 button for item usage might be a bit hard to reach for some people too. Shake the wiimote for a hammer homerun hit during hammer charge is kinda cool thou.

I see thanks for the info. Sounds like something for everybody.

Classic Controller 1 is awesome imho

Being able to control the camera with the 2nd stick is wonderful

Yeah I agreed with you. Used to like the old PS2 controls but this new analog camera control is too good to be true. Wiiremote + Nunchuk dpad camera control is not bad either.

Btw how do you cook meat consecutively? I dunno which button to press.

I have not tried that yet, I have cooked items but only one at a time and then I move on. The enemies seem to just come at me if I am in one place for too long.

I have enough stuff to heal myself that I just use that. I have had to sharpen my sword a few times, cause I swear the bosses take one hell of a beating

I'm liking control impressions. Keep 'em coming, you lucky freaks

Would you like to know something else? I seriously think anyone who has played this on the PSP is going to find the classic controller a godsend.

so glad they included classic controller options, sounds like classic controler type 1 is the way to go.
But if you're a old PS2 MH player, you will stick to Type 2, believe me:lol

There is a error in my Type 1 control, attack with 2 buttons not 4. X, A, X + A.

Yeah b is used to roll/duck and y is used to put back your weapon (if its out) or to use an item (when the weapon is not in use)

but when you are in the heat of battle, pretty much all 4 buttons plus the L trigger are in use under Control Type 1

You mean when they're not bitching about it not being a PS3 controller? I could see that. When I tried MH on the PSP, it was ... interesting to say the least. Didn't quite have enough time with it to adapt to the controls and fully embrace the experience, but I like the central thrust of the series very much.

Also I love the new Nunchuk + Wiimote control.
Sounds great! Thank you for this. I can tell I like you already.

Most MH snobs, like most Smash Bros snobs, are so dead set in their ways they refuse to even mentally accept a different control method let alone actually try one.

I think the Wii Remote + Nunchuk combo is the most comfortable controller ever made and I really don't want to get out another controller just to play this. This is great news.

I have the latest GECKO Os (1.9) and i have a black screen when i launch the demo.
What is the procedure to make it work puulease ?? :)

I just received the starter pack from a friend in Japan... it's so beautiful, but I have no way of playing it yet.

I just wanted to ask if it's possible to copy/transfer MHG saves from your Wii to an SD card and back? I know some games (SSBB, I'm looking at you) don't allow this... hope this ain't the case here.

I've put countless hours into the portable iterations, yet I'm so hyped to start fresh on G. And try the Tri demo, of course :D

Because you cannot play the MH3 demo with GECKO OS, pm me and I will give you the details on how to get the demo to work. It requires a specific IOS to be loaded when it launches, GECKO does not allow for that type of control but other software does.

If you are wanting to get MHG loaded that should work now under the newest GECKO, there were some issues with 1.8 that got it to the startup screen then went to black after telling you to make sure there is a classic controller connected.

Do you have Homebrew installed?

I do not think so but I will have to double check, the save file looks like a cat is all I can remember from briefly looking at the save files on my Wii.

No problem, I would just like to say how much I hate Kurupekko. I get to the point of taking it down and the bitch flies to the highest point on the map.

I still have not been able to to get Rathian to show up

Maybe this was put somewhere else on the thread but I dont want to go digging. Did they say if this was confirmed or rumored to be coming to the US yet?

I have no Homebrew, no Freeloader... ma even stole my Wii for WiiFit :lol
For now, this was just a 'necessary investment'. I was looking for a good excuse to get a classic controller!

Thanks, I'd appreciate if you could take a gander at the saves. It'll probably determine whether I get stuck in properly in the next few days, or next few weeks ^^;

I managed once. Think you got to deal enough damage to Kurupekko for it to summon Rathian. Btw continuous cooking is perform by holding down the dash button.

Nope, you cannot copy the save to SD card, its written behind the box.

Impressions after trying out all weapons
Light Bowgun - Still pretty weak but you are able to perform side/back steps after every shot. You are now able to tell the different in bullets impact between heavy/light.

Heavy Bowgun - Fucking slow but got the ability to auto block. Bullets got stopping power now, and deal quite heavy damage. Cannot perform sidestep. Theres a new gunlance Wyvern's Fire type of bullets now.

Big Sword - Basically still as good with the ability to perform a 3 hit forward combo now.

Small Sword - 1 new side 2 hit slash and a 2 shield hit. The only weapon which enables the player to equip a torch and weapon at the same time. The arch for the jumping slash had changed, which require some time getting used to.

Hammer - Fucking powerful now, basically you can chain almost every move to a forward 3 hit. New charge uppercut hit and a side hit.

I will have to try that on my next playthrough, does Kurupekko show any signs of weakness like Dosujagii who will limp once you have it close to death? All I have noticed is that its icon turns from green to red and starts to fly more

That has become my favorite along with the heavy bowgun.

I think the sound of the call will be different if it is Rathian. I manage to fight it again today thou.

Shit, I want this game.

I think more than anything else that is going to be the main draw of the game, underwater is awesome and takes much more skill than land battles since you can get disoriented very quickly.

They tease you in the demo with the water areas, I can only imagine how awesome a fully populated ocean would be

pro underwater gunning? I better still have the ability to wyvern fire underwater even if its not really realistically possible

You are right, underwater will be the main draw of the game thats for sure. One of the most impt action under water is the up down left right dash after a hit. I hope the retail version will be more populated like what you said, unlike the demo which is pretty bare lol. Do you know you can use big bomb to blow up the huge rocks under the sea? I wonder if we can use them to damage the monsters?:D

Auto blocking for heavy bowgun was in MHP2, though. Bowguns can stun now? oooh. Unless that pic is misleading and the monster is stunned because of a flash bomb.

Yeah I would hope the main game has more than 3 fat slow water animals :lol

I did not know that but I could see that being useful if for no other reason than a distraction while you reposition yourself.

Did you notice an air bar while you were underwater? I have read there is supposed to be one but I did not notice one.

Not sure bout that, will go try out the demo by shooting the head to see if the spark is different lol.

Forget to mention that Great Sword charge attack is different now, there is a release point where it dealt the most damage. Its all about timing, like cooking.

0_o? Its just on the left side of the screen, the blue bar. Its there even while you are on land.

Oh ok, I noticed that bar but I guess I was so enthused underwater I did not realize thats what it was for :lol

For being only 2 quests this demo is very addictive, its too bad they did not allow local multiplayer at least for the 3 star 2nd quest.

It's now timing based? shitttttttttt. They like to make the GS the most technical weapon of the bunch.

what are the benefits for a perfectly timed charged attack with the GS? More damage+fast recovery?

Error said:

More damage. You can feel the difference upon contact with a perfectly time release and a normal release.

Every weapon now got the ability to stun like the hammer, not sure bout bowguns thou. For Sword & shield its the shield attack and for great sword its the second hit of the forward 3 hit combo.
Just figure out that the kick for Great Sword is very useful, it can be chain into a 3 hit forward combo.

Will post this again. (Thanks to sammy)

Hmm, due to the light colors used and the soft blur filter, game doesnt look much different as compared to other Wii titles.

Interesting though is under emulation you can turn the bloom/blur effect off which I can only assume would make the picture look sharper and clearer.

I am going to try to get it up and running tomorrow and see if I can get a 720 or 1080 screen with the blur/bloom off

markatisu said:

Wonder how it looks like without the blur filter? Under water effect might not be as great thou.

Btw MHG for Wii is not a 100% PS2 port, but rather an upgraded one. For example, for PS2 MHG, Great Sword doesnt have the charge move and if I remember correctly, you can only carry 2 pages of items rather than 3. I bet there are more new changes.

And like what you said, I cant get online, stuck at 93%. I guess we need a Japan Wii Shop Channel.

Tenbatsu said:

Yeah I found a video on youtube that shows how to do it, basically you have to delete your Wii Shop Account for the US and create one for JP to access MHG online

Not sure if I want to do that, maybe when MH3 actually comes out
