wasn't this also the case with demon's souls/dark souls?
I was already on the fence with how the game doesn't support local multiplayer without a 3DS (If 360 ports can do it..), nor off-tv play with the gamepad (it was a one-screen game on everything but the 3DS..), this solidifies it: no preorder
Played tons of Tri online with a UK friend who got a US copy. Nintendo region lock is BS.
As long as they also have a NA region Wii U, they should be able to play with people in the US, assuming that an IP lock isn't in place.Isnt it just region lock with that specific version? If they get another US version you'd be able to play with them just fine?
now why would anyone want to prevent a lagi session?
Because people don't like to fight underwater.
hilarious stupid and the reason why i just dont care for nintendo anymore
Wouldn't be surpising. TvC's netcode was sooooo bad.I guess the netcode is just rubbish, coming from Capcom they probably haven't changed it since the first release.
Must be fun hunting monsters in OP armor. Getting two or three shotted by a monster isn't uncommon especially if you get locked into a combo. In MH, where boss level monsters and even players tend to be damage sponges, the game can fail to detect hits without much consequence. Launching attacks tends to lock you in place or force you into a trajectory. Bosses either get locked into place or into predictable trajectories when they attack.
It's a relative thing. Players are damage sponges when you consider how long it generally takes a monster to two or three shot you compared to being killed in a shooter.Must be fun hunting monsters in OP armor. Also, if you don't think lag matters at all in MH, you must never have tried hammering a teleporting monster online.
Lets just say you have a better chance of winning the lottery. Why isn't this Capcom's fault but Nintendo's?
What are the odds of me getting a reply to this question?
wasn't Persona Arena also region locked?

Obviously it's Capcom's fault for implementing this region locked multiplayer BS but Nintendo DOES share some of the blame for allowing this stupidity to go on in a game that it honestly NEEDS to do well.
Because even if it is Capcom's game I'm willing to put money on the fact that Nintendo's got at LEAST that much say in it's execution. I just don't think they thought it was that big of a deal.
I guess time will tell if it actually is or not.
Wait, it doesn't have off tv play? That was the main reason I wanted it for wii u!I was already on the fence with how the game doesn't support local multiplayer without a 3DS (If 360 ports can do it..), nor off-tv play with the gamepad (it was a one-screen game on everything but the 3DS..), this solidifies it: no preorder

Yeah, i think this is just Capcom's design choice in the game, trying to reduce the chances that people will experience lag when playing against other online.
I wonder what will happen if you send a game invite to someone in another region.
In those games you've mentioned, ping matters since players can seldom take more than a few hits and not counting a hit matters. Also, in those game you're generally much more mobile while attacking.

The decision to region lock online wasn't about pings.
drink if you...
set a trap and the monster leaves the area
get hit while sharpening a weapon or otherwise using a item
wake a sleeping monster up with a "weak" attack
get stunned
get tail-whipped
get one-hit killed
can't really think of any others at the moment.. :/
edit: a shot every time you launch a teammate. for sure.

I honestly feel bad for the people who this effects as it does suck maybe you should complain to capcom about it since it is there game and responsibility
use a potion/drug and someone uses a powder/horn inmediately after
someone flees the area at the appearance of a second monster
get surprise hit by a renoplos or other small monster while focusing on the large monster
someone ask for an item they should have brought along from the beggining (whetstone, cold drink, tranqs, etc.)
Kill a monster that was supposed t o be captured
