According to Twitter, NoA will send out demo codes tomorrow.
That's really stupid. They should have said it in the Direct if we weren't getting them today.

Yep they're region locked.
If you cast your mind back to like, 2013, when Nintendo made the Miiverese accounts linked to your eShop purchases you were forced to 'lock' yourself into a region. At the time I was considering locking myself to UK but I stuck with Australia because I AM A BIG FAT HEAD IDIOT WHY DID I DO THAT ARRRGH
If you had a second 3DS you could reformat it and select UK as your store and then play the demo. Otherwise Australians are outta luck.
