Monster Hunter Freedom Unite Thread

Is this game like PSO? I loved that game back in the day, I did buy MH1 on PS2 when it was released but didn't really like it. I'm really wanting to play something similar to PSO though!

Looks like you answered your own question there. MHFU is easier then 1 was, at least in the beginning, added in a few new weapon types, monsters and made item collection a lot easier. Still no auto-aim, no levels to grind. Just you, your weapon, the camera and the monster.

i need a ton of monster broth -- any tips? i've heard great thunderbugs drop it a lot, but (assuming great thunderbugs are the orbs), i've only gotten thunderbugs or thunderbug juice etc.

From them or vespoid/vespoid queen. If you want to carve the vespoids, just make some poison smoke bombs with a toadstool and a bomb mat or use a weak poison weapon. In fact, just take the HR6 vespoid queen mission and those poison smoke bombs so you can kill/carve her annoying friends.

Wow, I was getting so cocky.

Then I decided to fight a Kushala Doara. Fuck this, what the hell!? It has a wind shield that randomly bounces back my shots, its turning animation is one single fluid move, and... and... and it's owning me! And the thing is, he's not that hard, it's that damn shield!

FUUUUUUUUUUU...

Time to rethink some things.

just break his horns to stop wind barrier. after that he's easy. or get windpress and don't worry about it.

Poison also stops the wind shield and the fire version for Lun/teo.

Monster broth is that G rank? I think it is, if so use poison bombs and go on the G rank vespoid queen quest and poison bomb the little buggers. In a group of 3 I took my 2 runs for 10 so its not to bad.

Been falling in love with the hunting horn after having used them on training missions. (Finally finished them all for my Barrage and Saint Sword Piercings!!! :D ).

At first I thought they were only useful in big groups, but after running around with one solo I've really had a change of heart. They hit hard enough by themselves, but when you add in attack, max health and temp infinite stamina buffs and a chance to stun on head shots things start to get REALLY interesting.

They probably won't replace gunlances as my main but I'll definitly be using them more in the future. It's a shame that you so rarely see folks using them online.

i didn't think it was G rank (i don't have access to G rank yet and i read it's just high rank vespoid...). i have 1 broth already but i don't know where i got it. i'm in the middle of a vespoid downloadable quest... it's high rank (6 stars). using a poison weapon i've downed some without blowing them up -- i mostly get vespoid parts, but i've gotten one monster fluid... so i don't expect to get any broth from these.

this is all i need for a gypceros u set :(

ah! just got one in this same quest. is there no faster way? this is the first and i've carved 20+

edit: ended up finding some great thunderbugs that had a better drop rate. came home with 6 -- that's two pieces of armor :D

I never bothered breaking his horn

The shield doesn't stop you from hitting his head. So I used my hunting horn and smashed his teeth in. Just stay away from his sides so that you don't get blown back and roll away after the face smash to avoid getting swiped or hit with his wind breath.

To be honest, I really wished these monsters didn't have shields like this...but oh well!

Oh, and when you're running, note that when he's charging, he charges towards where you're going to be. If you go for a full run, and you see him start charging, stop and turn around and he'll run right by you. I swear I was so pissed cause I thought he was tracking, but once I stopped in mid-run, things got a lot easier.

yeah, they have really refined and improved the game since PS2. Remember having to go out and gather all your honey?

Got to the point where I'm able to take quests in Forest and Hills. Brings back so many memories. I guess Rathalos is not far away now.

is there any way to take down rathalos easily(strats/equipment tips)? for some reason, rathalos/rathian give me more problems than even some of the elder dragons. need to farm those bastards for their plates.

The second set of Cat missions are really dragging on. I want to see the new monsters, not PLESIOTH!!

I used to want to clear all missions, now i'm at the point were I just do the missions for rank up. Fuck fighting things that I don't need for upgrades or rank ups.

Now my accomplishment from the weekend, got my Sword Saint Piercing. Now I'm do the rank up missions so I can hit HR7.

Bad news, new monsters are in G-rank missions(except for Nargacuga). You'll only get to see new areas in cat elder quests as you fight the same monsters you did before.

Hammer, GS, LS, SnS, Bow, gunbow, hell anything really is fine against them. Hammer and GS will down los in about 10-15 minutes, that would be a lower number but the average Rathalos likes to dick around in the air for 5-10 minutes a fight. He gives you so much time to set-up when he flies in the air and attacks, just stand under him when he flies and charge the GS when he starts to come down(Make sure to take a few steps back from his shadow so you can get the head) or triple/super pound when he's about to land with the hammer.

Rathian with a hammer is just super pounding her till she falls down, giving you enough time to triple pound the face. For GS, a few spots to charge is when she flips, when he fires 3 fireballs and when she falls down from charging at you. The last one will be hard to get if you're too far so you can just leave it. Other then that, just do draw hits on her head when you can as you wait for charging moments.

getting rusted/worn weapons is a pain.... what's the best one to go for so i can say 'fuck it' for the rest?

Fellow hunters, I seek your assistance. How exactly do breakable parts work? For example, I want to upgrade my Kut-Ku Jaw (hammer) and it requires 4 Kut-Ku ears. Now I have broken plenty of Kut-Ku face in, complete with shattered lobes, but for the life of me I never get Kut-Ku ears. I've read that they come up at the reward screen, but I never get any. So my questions:

1) I tend to slay the Kut-Ku. Would catching it make a difference?

2) Are breakable parts randomly awarded? I'd assume so seeing as how I haven't gotten any.

3) Does higher mission rank = better chance? I'm up to Elder Quest Rank 4, but I been killing Kut-Ku in Rank 2 and 3 missions for an easier time.

4) Are any breakable parts ever offered as standard mission rewards and not as an added bonus?

1) It's been said that you get more rewards from capturing the monsters, so try doing that too. But...
2) Breaking the parts increases the chance of getting the corresponding part, but doesn't necessarily guarantee it.
3) Higher mission rank makes the rarer items from a lower rank more common, so yes. Although the actual rank 'increase' in the elder quests happens only when you reach the final set of missions...
4) Yes.

Remember to pet your pig before every mission.

Wait, what does petting the pig do besides make him/her follow me around town?

Some people believe you get better rewards if you do. I've been testing this out for the last 50+ missions and have notice zero change in my items. Ultra lucky cat makes more of a different on it's first run then this piggy thing. Think of it like the down a+b thing from Pokemon.

Azure did a pretty good job on answering this already but just for kicks.

1)Yes. Some items can only be gotten from capturing them or they give you a better chance of obtaining them if you do. There's some times when carving is better but in general, capturing them is better.

2) Broken parts have there own drop table. I know the ears are a 50% drop on kut-ku and the other 50% is a scale if you break the ears.

3) The game is broken down into 3-ranks. Low rank(Elder, 1-5* GH), High rank(Cat elder, 6-8*GH) and G-ranked. It doesn't matter if you kill a 2-star or a 3-star kut-ku, they give the same rewards since they're both low rank. If you fought a 6* kut-ku, that's a high rank monster so his drop table will be different then the low rank. He'll drop mostly high rank, but he'll have a few low rank items as well.

4) Yes, it kinda goes back to my answer on number 1. Some breakable part items will be rewards after the fight if you capture.

Right after I finished all of the sub-G rank training missions I went back and finished off my Elder Quest missions (which were thankfully only a few) and opened up the Dual Rajang invitional.

Where I got my ass soundly SPANKED.

So now that I've had a nice, manly, cry in the bathtub I think I'll regroup and try again a bit later. Oh and any suggestions would be greatly appriciated :).

Bring 3 shock traps (one made, 2 genprey fangs and 2 trap tool) a pitfall trap, couple of flashs and either a good Raw weapon or a good Ice.

Never fought them with anything other than longsword but I used the best Tigarex one with the -affinity gemmed out.

Try to avoid attacking from the front as he can punch combo you, super saian hadoken you :lol and do he odd swipes. Better yet think of it as fighting Blongonga.

Oh and try to avoid him when he gos SS.

I picked up the demo of Monster Hunter FU, but found it really difficult to fight the monsters. Are there interesting FAQs or walkthroughs that most people read when first starting out? I really enjoy the art/style of MH and am looking forward to Tri, but I am unsure if I should start at MHFU or not. Any suggestions?

They key to this fight is to kill the first one within 10 minutes. At approx. 10 mins the second larger one comes out. I had to burn a pitfall trap, 2 shock traps, and 10 of my 15 flash bombs to accomplish this with my C. Blango Destructor. You basically have to rush kill the first one and get every hit in possible. This becomes a real test of skill with your chosen weapon. Hit and run, hit and run, hit and run. I used the flash bombs during his enrage to keep him from nearly one shotting me. Keep practicing, it will come in time. Then you can take your time on the second guy. It becomes cake after the initial rush.

just checking my guild card:

What have people killed the most/least so far?

Interesting, I am going to have a look later on...

Working on the one horned devil (Diablos with 1 horn) for 9* quest completion. That douchetard has too much HP. Even with some of the best weapons in the game it is taking an ungodly amount of time to kill this bastard. I wonder just how much HP he does have. So far my Chaos Breaker seems to love knocking him over so I am having fun with that.

Jeez, 66 Tigrexes? Have you been farming them for parts or something?

On another note, I'm sad I'm back up at college because no more PS3, so no more ad-hoc party.

I'm a little shocked how many people on adhoc party can't deal with Kirin. Especially since he has different "tells" for his safe and unsafe lightning spread(s). It's a pain in the arse that I have to solo G Kirin just to get materials I want. Took me 45 minutes and the ~constant~ rotating of the camera left my hand so sore I had to stop playing. Should I make a tutorial video? (lol, and I'm not talking about sleep bombing either) Anyone else out there that know when and when not to attack him? :P

Rathalos: 107
Rathian: 89
Khezu: 78
Daimyo Hermitaur: 159 (farm him for $$ lol)
Kirin: 61
Yian KutKu: 115

Been HBG his ass. HR 6 took me 40 min to kill.

Finally beat Kushala, but I'm not too happy about it. So I'm fighting him for like, ever, then my cat-tard decides to throw a bomb and knock me over, whereupon I get up and get wind-blasted back to camp. I hike my way back up and prepare to fight harder than ever, take aim, and fire.

He dies in one hit.

...

motherfucking cat cost me a third of my reward! I hate when that happens; you get killed then go back and the monster only had one or two more hits before it would've died. GAH.

There is no satisfaction in that. I'm going to go 3-shot some punk-ass Kut-Kus with a Claw Shirmp-looking blade now.

EDIT: Jesus Christ, that Tigrex is some kind of insane drift-artist...

i have a planex adapter coming in so i can do xlink kai. can i use my laptop's standard wireless or will i need to plug it in to ethernet? do laptops typically have problems using two different wireless cards at the same time?

Guys I dont know where else to ask this but have there been any rumours of this franchise coming to PS360/PC? I really want to try it out.

Ah hell, I'll bite. But do your homework next time.

It's already out for the PC as an mmo called Monster Hunter Frontier. It's P2P in Japan and is free to try till HR2. The Korean one is F2P but you need a Korean SSN to play. The max rank in that game is HR 999. To play as a newcomer to MH, you'll have a rough time, as almost everything at the start can 2-shot you and a boss's rage mode will take off 80%+. If you got some MH experience it'll take some getting use to but nothing a few hours of playing won't fix. Capcom stated in it's blog last year they would like to bring it over State side but they lack the resources to do so and doesn't see it happening anytime soon.

Nothing on ps3 or 360. We do know that more MH games will be coming out for the PSP, but that's it.

Also if you like your gaf account don't talk about this in any MHTri threads.

Is this still a great game to play alone? None of my friends have a PSP, and I don't really feel like going through all the trouble to play online ad-hoc.
