No link? the fuck man.:lol

Edit: For all the veterans of the series, are any of you guys getting pissed off with Unite? Like seriously, wtf is the drop rate on Heavenly Scales for anything? I thought getting a Rathalos Ruby was hard, try getting one of these fucking scales. It pisses me off how much grinding is needed at this point.

I don't even know about heavenly scales and rath rubies but man, I've had the diablos set minus the chest piece for awhile now and I cannot for the life of me get a majestic horn to drop. I've played both guild and elder black and reg diablos quest a ridiculous amount of times + the "Four Horns" quest multiple times (making sure I break all horns each time) and still no luck... I'm scared for the time when it comes up that I'm going to need the mono heart/rath ruby/heavenly scale.

And yet, this game still doesn't feel grindy to me. I just make sure to do diff quests and not the same one more than twice in a row. Advancing rank while going back to quests for loot is key.

update: tried a few more times and beat it. but the game just wasn't feelin' generous enough to reward my efforts. no plates, not even rubies. DAMN THIS GAME! i guess i'm gonna try it again later...

RE: majestic horns

need to fight high rank regular diablos and break both horns. once you do, it should show up on the third row of rewards. game is evil though, and there's a small chance of getting the low rank version of it, if you're (un)lucky. best way to attack the horns is to wait for him to get stuck in a rock... in area 3, the big rock in the middle and in area 9 on the ledge at the back. it's pretty hard to get good shots in otherwise...

I wanna be on tomorrow, but I got a long day tomorrow and will be super tired, but I'll try and be there for the hunt. I've setup a thing on CAG to get some CAG people to join in on the GAF games.

Man that sucks....It took me maybe 4 or 5 diablo runs to get my full diablos set...Check gamefaqs and see the drop rate % on it, you should of got it already.

Mono hearts and rath rubies are easy as pie now once you fight G rank of these monsters. Getting a Mono heart was next to impossible in MHF2 but with Unite...I have 4....4! from 5 runs, super lucky I guess but before Unite, I never even had one.

I've unlocked the g-rank black fatalis. If there are any HR 9 hunters that are interested, I could post that at tonight's unite.

I also have HR 6 black and crimson fatalis which I can post. I want to unlock the HR 6 white fatalis.

Apparently to unlock your HR 6 white fatalis quest, you have to post the HR 6 black fatalis quest, kill that fatalis, and do the same with the crimson.

anyone in?

I'm in there right now, but OH MY GOD I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm MrDiamondJ. You know, I figured I'd be able to go in there and fumble around until I hop into a game, but nope.

Off to find an FAQ.

Yeah, they are super rare. They give you many different ways to get it, but the percentage is ridiculous. For example, Rathalos...

*You can get one from his shiny, but it's a 2% chance.
*From his tail carve, but also 2%.
*You can get it as a normal reward but who knows how rare that is.
*Finally you can get one for breaking his head but it's 4%.

Capture percentages are the same. At least regular Los gives you a slightly higher chance at getting one, as Azure and Silver have lower (2%-3%) rewards for breaking the head. Yeah, it's crazy. At least with Gravios you get a 6-10% shot for every possibility.

I ended up just hopping into J50 after a while of nobody else logging on.
I ended up pulling an all-nighter at work.

About ian/los hvnly scales:
To get a decent chance at those scales you have to do the gold and silver quest where you fight both of them in the great arena. It's not too bad when you have 2 or 3 other people who know what they're doing and it's awful when there's more than zero people who don't. I once spent an entire night with a good group and racked up about 5 ian and los hvnly scales.

It's still a crap shoot. One of the people in the group said he only got maybe 1 hvnly scale the entire time.

Just picked this up 2 days ago, though I have yet to play it. Boxart is amazing. :D

Anyways, I got this because a friend and I have really long school days (8:30AM - 10:00PM Monday-Wednesday) with plenty of free blocks, so we figured an ad-hoc coop game would be fun.

Anyways, any tips for a newcommer? I'd like to use some sort of spear if possible...viable?

Don't give up on it. As a co-op game it is so much better so if you both get pass the curve it will be hours and hours of fun.

Couple semi-helpful tips i guess-
First time fighting actual wyverns (kut ku ect) bring paintballs so you dont lose it when it flies away (after a while you will memorize the zones they go to.)

Most important part of fighting wyverns is to know their attack patterns, and know when to and when not to attack. Rushing in and trying to get as many hits as possible is the easiest way to get K.O'd which will kill your spirit and lead to "Fck this game".

Know your weapon. Know the pro's and cons of the weapon type you choose, because they have to be played differently.

Bring the right items on quests, and utilize the farm/kitchen/item combination to the max.

I guess the rest is trial and error, but just have fun overall.

I finally got this game myself last month, after playing MHF2. Currently on the elder 6* quests with a few 5* to complete (all the Elder dragons except Kushala Daora to take on, plus the black Gravios), and now taking on the 2* guild hall quests. I'm also 100% solo from MHF1 & 2. Currently 15 hours in.

My greatest achievement so far, though? Beating A Troublesome Pair in less than 15 mins (could be 20, my memory's a bit fuzzy). The main reason for this is because I hadn't picked up Freedom 2 since either April or May!

I downloaded Adhoc Party a while back, but my modem and PS3 are usually in 2 seperate places, plus I work late most days. I'm working early for a little while now, though, so hopefully I can get some coop in. I dabble a little in almost all weapons except bowguns (although I actually enjoy using the bow) and my favorite weapons are the LS and Hammer (Hunting Horns are slowly creeping up the ladder, tho...:D)

So I think after having this game for a while I finally get into the swing of it. Killed my first "big" monster today (a Bulldrome) and finally scraped together the materials for my Wild Bone Lance (my first upgraded weapon, wooo! :D ). Didn't care for the game at first, but now that I understand it better, I'm loving it.

The bulldrome is good for learning the faster timing of the larger monsters.

I like how in Unite, they have the Bulldrome travelling with his family, the large female, and two children.

The quests available in the gathering hall are meant for multiple players and have monsters with more health than normal and longer objectives. The elder in the main area of the village has quests designed for one player.

The bookshelf next to your bed has a lot of useful information that's not immediately apparent.

The training hall has quests where you can try out all the weapon types and get used to them.

If you abandon a quest in the middle of it, you'll recover all the items you brought with you that you used, but lose whatever you found during it.

So yeah, progress update here. Since earlier today when I took out my first "big" monster (again, a Bulldrome), I've since killed another Bulldrome, a Velocidrome, and just now, a Yian Kut-Ku (who absolutely stomped me...took me three tries to beat it). Also got myself a pretty great Paladin Lance, and some nifty armor too. I think I put something like nine hours into the game today.

I think it's safe to say I've finally "gotten" Monster Hunter. :lol

Hey GAF!

I recently bought this game and I'm trying my best to get past the learning curve, so far I think I'm going well. Just wondering, I'm using the gunlance, is it a good weapon? Should I switch to another type of weapon? Should I stick to only one type of weapon? Any help would be appreciated, I just would love to know which weapons should I steer clear from.

You guys can PM me too if you want, I just want general pointers and such. :(

When I first tried to get into the game, I used a Gunlance. It's a pretty good weapon from what I can tell. Just today decided to try the Lance though, and I love it. It really all depends on your play style, I suppose.

So there's no definite "bad crappy" weapon? All of them are good?

Like Seraphis said, every weapon has its strengths and weaknesses. The best thing to do is to pick the one that's right for you. If you want to see how each weapon feels, the training school has a section in the beginner training called Weapon usage which allows you to try all of the weapon types in the game.

Another question! (I'm such a noob) Can someone explain better the whole skill things? I totally don't understand all of that X_X. I know I'm probably annoying but I really wanna understand this game.

Don't worry about it. This game has a lot of depth to it; another piece of advise is to go to gamefaqs and check their psp section. They have some great in-depth guides there ( you may need to look for Monster Hunter Freedom 2, though. You can also read the in game Info guide that's located next to your bed in your home.

On topic, though, skills are basically special abilities that are available and activated by the different armor you wear. You probably noticed by now that each piece of armor has a skill and a particular value for that skill. Skills are activated when the value of a particular skill type is 10 or more. There are some skills which have upgraded versions of themselves the higher the value goes (for example, the skill Earplugs changes to High Grade Earplugs when your total skill points across all the pieces of armor you wear are at 15 or more. Most full sets (Helmets, chestpiece, arm pieces, lower body pieces and leg pieces) bring at least one skill to the table. They also sometimes carry incomplete skills (skills where the total skill points are close to, but not quite at, the activation point. This is where gems come in, but more on those at another date. Hope this helps.

It's been really really helpful =D. I think at last I can grasp this whole skill thing, so far I'm loving the game, it's just hard to grasp but thanks a lot man. Much appreciated

skills, in a very general sense, augment the way the character plays. The Tigrex armors give you the cooking skill, which in practice, makes your character drink potions and eat meat twice as fast. Another skill allows you to see where the monster is on the map, as if you had hit it with a paintball.

Some skills will be very helpful in specific situations, and other skills give a more general benefit that helps in most situations.

You can find skill lists online, and it is good to skim them, to at least see what benefits there are out there. The game doesn't really explain what the skills do, which is frustrating, but they are really fun to experiment with. They don't necessarily give you entirely new abilities, so much as improve specific ways the character already plays.

Bought psp 3000 few weeks ago and MH: FU is the only game I have so far. At this point Im thinking will I ever need another. :D Seriously though, my character select shows 20 hours played and I feel like I have barely scratched the surface.

Slayed Kut-Ku and Congalala few days ago but have not started farming them for armor materials. Should I? I mean I think I've read Kut-Ku armor could take me quite far?

I lolled by myself when I noticed my hand unintentionally formed "the claw" without me even thinking about it around the 15 hour mark. :lol

yay! bought a new psp and im back! but wtf just killed tigrex and kirin is making my LS to rebound :lol damn, time to get a new weapon...

With Kirin you have to go for the head, anywhere else with a LS on it will bounce, or just get a hammer and knock him out, love doing that.

As does that fucking crab. Can't believe it glitched on me. Been playing too much Dissidia but we will have to beat that Tigrex and giant enemy crab to make up for the shameful performances last time!

that is awesome...

i dont think i can make it tonight... to much video animation work to do and then some figure drawing so I won't have any time really :(

I wanna rank up though... HR8 is nice, but HR9 would be sweet.

I got this game awhile ago and haven't played in a few weeks. I put about 20 hours in but got burned out by all the grinding (and I typically like grinding.) I realize the meat of the game is in the online play, but I have custom firmware so I'm not sure if I can play online to begin with. What do I need to get online anyway? Can I just play by connecting to my router or do I need the x-link or some other peripheral? I don't have a PS3 or PSN account if that matters. I'd really like to get in on the GAF games because this game gives me a lot of fond memories of playing PSO on my DC... if only I could get online.

If I download this on the psn store,
can I play it in co-op with my wife.

I bought the first MH for the psp and loved it,
but having only one umd I had to play solo and I feel this game would be ten times better with my wife by my side.

you need two copies of the game to play with other people.

I didn't think the game was available in the PSN store yet.

You could download the demo and play the demo co-op. There are only about 3 different quests, though.

In Europe it's on psn.
If I buy one copy and install it on both psp's (they have the same acount),
would I be able to do co-op?

Else I can buy two umd copies on play for an extra ten euro's, but I'de rather not use that option.

So, quick question. I've been spending most of my playtime lately grinding for equipment. At this point I have a Frost Edge, a Paladin Lance, an Iron Katana, and enough armor that my total defense is like 105 and my health skill is active (+20 health).

About how far will all this take me? I tested it out by taking on a Velocidrome and beat it with zero trouble at all. I'm only up to the 2* Elder quests at the moment.
