Edit: For all the veterans of the series, are any of you guys getting pissed off with Unite? Like seriously, wtf is the drop rate on Heavenly Scales for anything? I thought getting a Rathalos Ruby was hard, try getting one of these fucking scales. It pisses me off how much grinding is needed at this point.

Man that sucks....It took me maybe 4 or 5 diablo runs to get my full diablos set...Check gamefaqs and see the drop rate % on it, you should of got it already.CheapChampagne said:I don't even know about heavenly scales and rath rubies but man, I've had the diablos set minus the chest piece for awhile now and I cannot for the life of me get a majestic horn to drop. I've played both guild and elder black and reg diablos quest a ridiculous amount of times + the "Four Horns" quest multiple times (making sure I break all horns each time) and still no luck... I'm scared for the time when it comes up that I'm going to need the mono heart/rath ruby/heavenly scale.
And yet, this game still doesn't feel grindy to me. I just make sure to do diff quests and not the same one more than twice in a row. Advancing rank while going back to quests for loot is key.

Anyways, I got this because a friend and I have really long school days (8:30AM - 10:00PM Monday-Wednesday) with plenty of free blocks, so we figured an ad-hoc coop game would be fun.
Anyways, any tips for a newcommer? I'd like to use some sort of spear if possible...viable?
Don't give up on it. As a co-op game it is so much better so if you both get pass the curve it will be hours and hours of fun.TheExodu5 said:Just picked this up 2 days ago, though I have yet to play it. Boxart is amazing.

Killed my first "big" monster today (a Bulldrome) and finally scraped together the materials for my Wild Bone Lance (my first upgraded weapon, wooo!). Didn't care for the game at first, but now that I understand it better, I'm loving it.

I recently bought this game and I'm trying my best to get past the learning curve, so far I think I'm going well. Just wondering, I'm using the gunlance, is it a good weapon? Should I switch to another type of weapon? Should I stick to only one type of weapon? Any help would be appreciated, I just would love to know which weapons should I steer clear from.
You guys can PM me too if you want, I just want general pointers and such.![]()

Don't worry about it. This game has a lot of depth to it; another piece of advise is to go to gamefaqs and check their psp section. They have some great in-depth guides there ( you may need to look for Monster Hunter Freedom 2, though. You can also read the in game Info guide that's located next to your bed in your home.Pancho said:Another question! (I'm such a noob) Can someone explain better the whole skill things? I totally don't understand all of that X_X. I know I'm probably annoying but I really wanna understand this game.

On topic, though, skills are basically special abilities that are available and activated by the different armor you wear. You probably noticed by now that each piece of armor has a skill and a particular value for that skill. Skills are activated when the value of a particular skill type is 10 or more. There are some skills which have upgraded versions of themselves the higher the value goes (for example, the skill Earplugs changes to High Grade Earplugs when your total skill points across all the pieces of armor you wear are at 15 or more. Most full sets (Helmets, chestpiece, arm pieces, lower body pieces and leg pieces) bring at least one skill to the table. They also sometimes carry incomplete skills (skills where the total skill points are close to, but not quite at, the activation point. This is where gems come in, but more on those at another date. Hope this helps.

I bought the first MH for the psp and loved it,
but having only one umd I had to play solo and I feel this game would be ten times better with my wife by my side.
