Monster Hunter Freedom Unite Thread

Just got the game. Data install is a godsend. The game is as frustrating as ever with that classic satisfaction when a mission is successfully completed. God damn this game is great.

Question regarding Ad-Hoc Party & Hooking up a PSP to the TV. Is it possible to play with people on Ad-Hoc Party while your PSP is hooked up to the TV or do you guys play on the PSPs themselves? I'm thinking maybe, especially if you use bluetooth to communicate while setting the TV for the PSP to play, but I'm guessing since I never did actually try Ad-Hoc Party yet. I'll have to move my router to the basement where the games are.

PSP itself. Of course if you have multiple inputs, you can connect your PSP on one, and PS3 on the other. Have Ad-hoc party running on one source, and be playing PSP on the other. Of course you wont know who enters or leaves the room until you switch back.

I picked this up. Going through training missions now. Any reward for finishing them all?

I think just lots of stuff for armor and weapons saved up. Money and pokke points too. Dunno about the new felyne chief quests though. Thats new to me. Also you get combat training soon after (fight a boss in an arena) for rare stuff. Also group training. As far as crafting goes, just...go with what you think might be useful/give decent bonuses/ looks cool at times. So many pieces and variations that you'll go crazy if you think about it too much.

First thing I want to get done online is treasure hunting though.

EDIT: Made the online topic -

Started playing this, finished up basic training since I was so confused with Monster Hunter Freedom that I barely put an hour or two into it.

I feel ashamed to admit it, but I really like the Horn and its White Note-Poke-Sweeping attack chain. Is this normal, GAF? Aren't I supposed to be a man here and go with the Great Sword or something?

Instruments are great. Power ups and decent attack in one.

Also make sure to download the bonus stuff. The quests are high level, but the bonus items are for everyone. Especially the boat.

Really wish some more Monster Hunter vets would step in here and help out with things like skill activation among other things.

I don't have the US version yet. But I've played a fair amount of the JP one. What kind of questions did you have?

Bah, this would have to get released just as I'm leaving town for a week or two. I wonder if I should figure out how to bring my PS3 along, or just slum it with Xlink Kai for a while.

Right, here we go again. I refuse to be killed by this Ruler of the Snow again. That monkey is going down, game is data installing at the moment, then I'm leaping onto Adhoc Party for likeminded monkey hating individuals to fucking stab this bastard down!!

I've noticed that importing your character strips all the decorations you attach to your armor/weapons. I'm in the process of attaching all my dodge-jewels back on. I highly suggest activating your Evade+ when you can, it makes dodging the beast must less frustrating.

Has anyone found the best method for leveling up your cat warrior?

Instruments are awesome, they can be every bit as powerful as a hammer and a little easier to wield. They're perfect for support obviously, but many of them do an awesome job of boosting your stats early on in the game. So I say keep using them, they're awesome in multiplayer.

Finally after getting a game going (you have to set your PSP adhoc to Channel 1, who knew, didnt have to for Phantasy Star Portable..) I can confirm what I shouldve known all along.

This is an awesome game, when playing with others! Co-operating to take the monster down and giving it more than 1 target makes the make that much better. I was trying to beat Congala, Ruler of the Snow for ages on my own. Just wasnt happening through, due to his lunge attacks from across the map focussed solely on me.

Add in another player, and immediately the game becomes much better. So, looks like I'm finally into this game, and just got to HR2. Never playing solo again, and I suggest no-one else does! Adhoc Party all the way bitches!

The thing about solo and having yourself single targeted is that you then have to always be moving and develop a certain distance to where you can evade then attack as they recover from a move. I keep all my weapons undrawn except SnS, Hammer, HH with run buff, bows, and BGs. I draw attack lots with the GS,LS,GL,Lance. DS I generally only use when I have stamina potions and keep them drawn. 688 hrs or something.

I'm contemplating on whether I want to keep farming up a bit while my akantor eqps are not nerfed or just jump straight in. First I need to get the game though and get back into Hunter mode so I don't get rolled off the bat by those HR8+9 monsters

Fuckin' Canadian shipping. Toronto has it but 90 minutes north, there's nothing but tumbleweed being shipped.

<--- losing my mind

It's so wildly inconsistent.

I think searching today is pretty futile.

Tomorrow. I'm telling myself tomorrow.

fs and bb says release date is tomorrow. which i hope to mean available tomorrow morning, guaranteed. which means they've arrived the afternoon before or earlier. really hoping that's the case.

In Guelph I called a bunch of ebs and fs.. Apparentrly the release date is tomorrow>_<

It was really nice of all the reps I spoke to, to try to sell me on Fight Night 4 or the new Transformers game to "pass the time while I wait for MH" though...

-.-

Hrm. Wish I could change the name of my character if importing from MHF2; made a MHF1 character with a dumb name that I wish I could change and stuck through it through MHF1 + 2... and I don't want to start over and lose all of my stuff simply because I don't like my character's name :/

ARGH that fucking pink Congala is killing me. :(

lol you too? I finally busted his ass last night. Cut his hair off on accident and then it freaked out :lol Finally shocked and trapped em though. That was crazy....not to mention the jungle boss music really gets you going. Felyne comrades help out a little too.

Three questions -

About element resistance: Should I just worry about getting those plus skill numbers to 10, or do the normal resistance levels on armor count towards total resistance as well?

How do I break the shell of an Damiyo Hermitaur? Just keep working at it with a blunt weapon?

Is there any easy way to tell element weakness aside from guessing by environment?

Have mine coming from Amazon. Looking forward to digging in from scratch with the full game, the first time I'm buying into the series after watching as it has developed (though a $20 gift code specifically for this game gotten during an Amazon trade promotion was no small influence).

In case you missed it:

Ad-hoc party player list

I might be able to get on tonight (would be nice to play the real game with some new people as well) but not sure.

Oh and when you kill a monster with multiple people in your party, are the rewards evenly split?

Yep, seems so. You can carve 3 things off a biggun' each and you get the same chunk of rewards on the Quest Complete screen as you normally would. Actually really enjoying the game now. DO NOT SOLO THIS, people just getting into it. It will make you hate life!

Also the J server is getting pretty full these days, so GAF should pick a World and Number to hang out in if theres gonna be lots of Ahoc'ers!

I walked in and picked up a shelf copy of Unite this afternoon. I need to set up a Japanese PSN account (and re-arrange some wires) and I'll be set.

I know I am, Im already about 10hrs into it,. how do I unlock more armor sets? I got the vespoid set now and the Katana "Gospel"

I for one don't see elemental resistances as worth much. Once you unlock an armor set of that monster the elemental stats on the armor generally tell you what element is strongest/weakest against that monster. Breaking shells can be done with any weapon I believe. Hermitaurs have their shells broken/shattered and Cenataurs have their shells broken off

Unlocking armor sets should be along the lines of collecting whatever pieces needed to make the armor with the exception of one or two pieces. Sometimes you need just a few pieces and a rare piece to see it, sometimes you need all pieces

After I finish training stuff and a quest or two, I'm willing to jump into ad-hoc. I'll get everything downloaded tonight.

so awesome!!

I like the cat warrior too, I can't wait until he is leveled up, and all powerful. I am stubborn as hell with picking one though, I don't care what the stats are, I just go with the color I like the best :)

Breaking parts is easier if you use a weapon with the proper element, for medium-high level wyverns is almost obliged begin to build a set of weapons of the five elements. And its the same for armors, fighting for example a Kirin or a Khezu (thunder attacks) with an armour with heavy weakness for thunder (like -10) isn't a good idea.

Right, well I use elements for my weapons against monsters, but I don't find resistance in an armor skill set worth it. Maybe when gunning or bowing. My armor priority would be something like skillset>def>resistances

Well, is true that the elemental resistance really matters when you play as a gunner, but in all cases with some heavy elemental attacks from wyverns enraged it does matter. Anyway the most important thing when you're beginning is the raw value of armor, and later skills become the real deal (auto tracking, earplug, guard, gunner skills, evade,...)

Gotcha. Also armor spheres, save em till I get some really good armor? Or just upgrade along the way?

Well fuuuuuu

I just saw that if you have CFW you CAN change the name of your hunter... and I don't have custom firmware. Crap. Guess I'll have to stick of my old name then...

Ok, first I imported my character from MF2. The game dropped me exactly where I left off which would be awesome if I had any idea where I was at that point and what I was trying to achieve, hunt, loot, etc. In other words, I was clueless, so I saved and exit the game.

After that first awkward attempt at starting the game, I imported my now MFU character, where they allow me to retain my gold and my item box (and equipments?) sans important ores and loot. Fresh start, create a character (including sex), intros, tutorials etc.

Ahhhh now that's more like it! I don't mind tackling all the missions again. After all, I haven't touched the previous game after playing it around the release.

Do elder's quests give you anything besides extra materials/money and access to new areas? Im guessing Hunter Rank is only upped by going Gathering hall quests?
