Monster Hunter Freedom Unite Thread

I don't see how people hate the controls when they are easily learned. I don't use the claw that often either... only when its a fast monster, else I just use my surroundings. All I ever had to do to kill a monster was learn it's moveset (angry and not angry) and be prepared for the worst

Also, changing saves from 2G was possible with CFW with some program. Laboko or something was it? I couldn't get anything to work with the PSP-2000 though.
 
I have never played one of these games beyond a min or 2. I really want this game though. I think I will get it. I will be asking for tons of advice.

*playing the demo, 2 things.
1) Can you change the button config for the camera somehow?
2) Can you shut the cat up? Its so annoying!!!!

The camera isnt so bad once you get used to it, but the cat.....so bad. This game graphics are insane!!!!!! Also beat the first hunt in the demo. Damn thing took like 15 min. to take down and I almost used all my potions/mega potions.

Even when you transfer data, you still start from the beginning, just with more armor/weapons.

4 player monster hunting/ missions with voice comm = awesome. Also ad-hoc party is pretty much lag free.

BTW, I have imported Monster Hunter Freedom Unite from VG+, a canadian online store. But I didn't play the US version of MHF2. Are gamesaves cross-region compatible?

When you transfer data from MHF2 you also conserve all the quest, monsters and trainings done. I was actually done with the old lady in that game, only missing Shen Gao Ren and dual Rajang, and my surprise when I transfered data from Unite I could take Shen Gao Ren.

Yep, Adhoc Party supports voice chat. If you have a PS3 capable of utilizing Adhoc Party, you need to definitely take advantage and play; there are always some games up of MH, typically World J, Room 50.

So, apparently this has shipped out a day earlier than games normally do, is that right? Should it be available today?

You do lose all your training times though from your Guild Card.

Yeah I got sucked into the game through people talking about ad-hoc party. Found MHF 2 on clearance at Best Buy...now i'm a fan :lol

It's Capcom, so just a matter of figuring out the limitations they put on a character/control scheme. Can Megaman shoot diagonal? no. Can you truly strafe in RE5? no. Can you lock onto a monster in MH? no.


I'm 500+ hours into MHFreedom 2 and have been playing since the beginning. Yes, Capcom could add a lock-on feature. They could create a very polished camera not unlike SotC that doesn't focus on any particular part of the beast but gazes toward it and lags slowly. You'd still be able to aim at the parts you needed. But it's Capcom and they won't add that, so the sooner you can get used to it the better. And not always being able to tell where the creature is makes the game just as stressful as any RE controls.
Once you get a feel for a particular dragon, it's usually just a matter of clicking the L button to center your view on it. There's plenty of time to control the camera between your character's animations, no need to hook your finger unless you're really wanting to set up your next move.

The best advice possible is to take advantage of that X button. Depending on the weapon, you can use a roll to cancel out of combos and dart through attacks with practice. Get Evade +1 or +2 and you have some extra invulnerable time in a roll.
When you are in a room with a beast, and your weapon is unequipped you will go into a sprint when facing away from a monster. Pushing X will throw you into the "holy-shit" dive where you are invulnerable for upwards of 2 seconds.
Figuring out how to do this and evade the creatures is probably the most important step. You want to survive them, so you can observe them.

That technique has saved my ass more than once. And ok, you don't conserve the training times in the guild card, but everything else (including hunter rank and completed trainings) is conserved.

I found this a couple of weeks ago and thought it was pretty funny. How long does it take to get a weapon that can 1-hit these enemies or does he just have a really good equipment config? :lol It's funny when he misses on the timing.

Just out of curiosity, can you data transfer from a japanese save file from MHF2?
Also, how does ad hoc online work? Do you get to play with other players internationally? (I'm pretty sure you can't play cross-region in offline multiplayer, tried it with Japanese and US MHF2)

He's not one-hitting them; he's just showing the final blow after they've been beaten down.
 
I only played the demo so far, and it took me forever to put down my first monster on easy. I don't have any friends who own a PSP. Is this worth picking up for solo play?

So far I'm doing alright.
 
I just picked up my copy and got everything up and running (firmware install, game contend install, and character transfer)

Took down my first Vespoid queen, she KOed me once. I have noticed that your little fighter starts very weak (they were more beefed up in the demo, that's for sure) ... i keep having to kick him so he won't slack on the job :D I really have no idea if they gain experience from their individual kills or for just being on the quest.

Demo increased difficulty or just picked harder monsters. Most early solo stuff never takes THAT long.

Also Unite get. Data installing now.

Just Hunter rank 1. Didnt really do much in MHF2 except farm some stuff and get the basics down.

EDIT: Recommend that you use data install and whatever other quick load features you can. Makes load times nearly non-existent.
 
Is it just me or do some of the weapons look different than their MHF2 counterparts? Also everything seems to animate smoother/ is much clearer.
 
Well I've got MHF2 but I'm gonna go pick this up tonight after work . What is this Ad-hoc party thing? I have a PS3, does that mean I can play multiplayer without having people in the same room as me? I don't know anyone near me that plays this but would love to be able to play online this time around.
 
Well somehow I convinced my parents to loan me $30 bucks and now I'm kicking Anteka ass (for some reason I felt like starting a hammer only file).

Hopefully I'll be able to get my PS3 hooked up via Ethernet so I can join the Ad Hoc Party. :D

*First follow the PSN topic's create a JP account tutorial, then download ad-hoc party beta*



Here is a brief translation to the front end title screen in order from top to bottom, there are only 4 selections and it’s easy to navigate through.

• Start: "Start" is the ad hoc Party portal allowing to select a server called "World" and a meeting area called "Lobby"

• Jump: "Jump" is made for selecting "Friend List" (フレンドリスト) or "Bookmark" (ブックマーク) which allows to directly join a connected PSN friend's Lobby, or to select a bookmarked Lobby.

• Ad hoc : "ad hoc" is used to connect the PlayStation 3 with an activated PlayStation Portable.

• Information page: The "Information page" is the PlayStation 3 built-in web browser restricted online user manual for adhoc Party.

To add to that, after searching around I found this *Taken from the official playstation forums and edited for general PSP gaming*

How to join a game:

Press circle to choose the first option on the Ad Hoc Party screen. You will be taken to and place that says 'World A' you can scroll through the worlds with the L1 and R1 buttons.

Find the World of your choice, now using the left or right analog stick find the lobby of your choice , then press circle to go into the lobby.


You will now see a close up of the lobby, press circle.

Now you may or may not see other people, you can talk to these people buy pressing start to bring up your keyboard. You can also press circle over their name, the first option makes you walk to them, the second option you can talk to them, the third option is 'add to friends list'.

You will also see houses. Each house represents someone hosting a game. Which game are playing? Well you don't really know until you go into the house. Some of the houses are named based on what game they are playing, but not always, so feel free to pop into any open house and ask what they are playing if you cannot tell. To enter a house, use the analog stick and set the target over the house, press circle, then chose the 2nd option. To exit a house press triangle, then chose the first option, then chose the option to the left.

Once you are in a house you can hook up a headset to your PS3 for voice chat.

Start up the PSP game of your choice and go into it's MP mode and search for a host. Make sure your WLAN switch is turned on.

How to host a game:

Use the analog stick to move the cursor find a clear spot in the lobby. Press Circle.

Chose the second option.

Three more options will appear. Press Circle on the First Box to name your house.

In the third box you can set a password.

You are now hosting a game. While hosting a game you can press Triangle to bring up host options:

The first box is to leave your house. Simply press Circle, then chose the option on the left.

The Second box is to set the description of your house, press circle on the second option and a key board will come up.

Third option is to open or close the door. An open door means anyone can come in, a closed door means no one can come in. It is a good idea to close the door if your party is full. The option on the left opens the door, the option on the right closes the door.

The fourth option is to kick the player from the room. It bans them and they cant get back in.

The latest version of ad-hoc allows you to make large houses that can hold a larger number of players. However, only 4 can play Monster Hunter Unite at a time. Of course, everyone can still communicate with each other inside the house.

Oh and you must have a wired net connection to use ad-hoc party.

20GB PS3's not supported

Once you have downloaded ad hoc party beta, you can use your normal PSN account.

The program is in Japanese, but it's fairly easy to hit the first button then navigate to World J Room 50 (where most of the English speakers I've played with hang out).

I hate Black Grav (well... I hate Gravios in general). I usually end up just hitting him on the wings when he fires a beam, so I don't have to worry about the gasses.

As far as MHF2U, I have yet to run into a new mission. But, I started a new save and I'm only on the 2 star missions so hopefully something new comes up soon.

Question regarding Ad-Hoc Party & Hooking up a PSP to the TV. Is it possible to play with people on Ad-Hoc Party while your PSP is hooked up to the TV or do you guys play on the PSPs themselves? I'm thinking maybe, especially if you use bluetooth to communicate while setting the TV for the PSP to play, but I'm guessing since I never did actually try Ad-Hoc Party yet. I'll have to move my router to the basement where the games are.
