Monster Hunter Freedom Unite Thread

Just bought the game... bit disappointed to find out it only works ad-hoc if you have a wired connection for your PS3. I only really wanted to play the game online as I tired of Monster Hunter 2 Freedom quite quickly.

As my living conditions aren't exactly ideal (I live in the loft) it means my PS3 is wireless through the iMac which is online down 2 flights of stairs.

Anyone know what my best option is (if anything) or should I consider returning it until I'm in a situation where I can connect my PS3 non-wirelessly.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I love this game, but there are so many things with it that are wrong.

1.) Why no lock-on? The camera is bad enough to control as-is.

2.) Why is there no name of the beast shown above it, or a monster discography so I know what the fuck I'm hunting.

3.) Stop meowing you stupid cats!! Throw the bomb! No, not at me! ARRGGGH!

4.) This is a portable game that's not really meant to be portable. (A problem with many PSP games.) Portable game you play for 5-20 mins at a time. This one's better for sitting down and playing for 3 hours at a time.

1) the camera is made that way for a reason and if it was lock on, it'd be fucking stupid. if ur doing bow user, then maybe you could get away with this but depending on what monster im hunting, ie, if its a rathalos, ill change my aiming accordingly and certain parts of the body reflect off, your clearly not far enough to see any of this. if im hunting the rathalos, i usually go at his head till it breaks, then aim for the tail, chop that fucker off then ill work on 1 leg so that he trips easier.

2)there is kinda, a monster discography, it shows how many times you hunted each monster and if u got the reccord for shortest/longest, also it shows the name of the monster in the title of the quest usually.

3) yea the bombs get pretty fucking annoying sometimes but you can switch to cats that are weapons ony

4) yea ur right, this game is bad for 15 mins, its made for 5 hour sit downs:P

now that i addresssed your complaints, im gonna list mine. why is the new shit locked tilll after you beat the single elder quests? why is the first monster you fight in g rank dual hypoocs but you dont even get a new map in the lvl the first time you fight them?

it's perfect as a portable game. it's meant for you and 3 friends to get together and hunt some monsters. it sure is easier to do that with a portable rather than try to organize a lan of some sort. if what i read is true, i don't understand is how japanese kids play this game during the commute to school. this game requires far too much dexterity than such an environment could provide

WTH.
I got this game today and after playing it for a couple hours i pretty disappointed so far. I knew what i was getting into with this expansion and my expectations where in check, but...

I got really far in freedom 2 with the help of adhoc party, but in Unite, so far, i have no access to new monsters or areas yet despite me being HR6. I have tried three times to solo Gao for the village leader with my akantor bow/armor combo like the freedom 2 and cant. So frustrating.

Adding to that, you want me to catch 8 fucking goldfish within 50 minutes? FUCK YOU.

Maybe you didn't complete HR6 key missions to unlock HR7.

Are all the new monsters tied to the cat in the village and G rank missions? If so, that sucks.
No.You can still get news mission from the cat even if you didn't do Guild missions. But the loot is poor.

Lovin' Unite, but damn is hammer only a bitch. Hell, I could hardly even hit Monoblos due to green sharpness bouncing off it's head.
Attack it legs and when it falls attack the spine.

I saw an ad for this game in the NYC subway train. Very surprising.

They're all over the goddamn place in all the MUNI Metro stops here in SF. They're pushing the game. Hard. I kinda hope it pays off because if it ropes in a bunch more people who've never played before, then Unite is the best version for them to pick up. Hell, even if it gets more people into the Ad Hoc Party pool it's not a bad thing.

The things this game could have done with an Infrastructure mode and VOIP, though... Especially with the PSPgo. I would love to be able to bust this game out and play it anywhere there's Wi-Fi with a lobby of people.

Heads up, those of you with saves from 2ndG, there's a roundabout method to convert them into Unite, useful for those who want to switch over.

I'd really appreciate if someone would like to help me out. I tried reading that three times, and I am still unsure what to do. It refers to programs I've never seen before.

The post on the minegarde forum has the programs needed. If you have a US version just pm me a link to your save file and I can do it.

That's what I ended up doing, but given the choice I would love to go back to using any other melee weapon against it.

Kushala was being a little annoying as well. But atleast i can break it's horns before it pisses me off to much. Only thing is I have to fight it in the jungle to clear the 4* missions.

The Akantor bow in Unite is fudged, there's an upgrade to it that makes it as powerful as it once was. Also keep in mind that they remove the jewls in Unite...... heh, yea and the goldfish missions are a joke. Though I did get through them last week, you just have to killy the Plessy and keep reentering the room to see if the fish are there.

i'm trying to pick up the dual swords. but the rapid decline in sharpness makes it not very worth it. going through 'em whetstones like nobody's business. need to get those g-rank sharpness armors...

re: goldfish farming
protip: use goldfish bait. they're made by comibing the bugs you find in your honey box. with something else. i hope that makes it easier. i got my badge in f2 doing that. i aint doing it again. until i'm bored again

I got the game a few days ago and have played maybe 12 hours. I posted earlier about playing it online and got a lot of advice on Adhoc party but I see someone asking about connecting you PSP to your PS3 - does that also let you play online? or is that what you have to do when you are doing Adhoc Party...? Regardless, I'm about to try and get into some multiplayer - gets lonely out there :/

That is how ad-hoc party works.

:D Gypceros Z armor, finally! It comes with "faint negated" and "runner" but i added "evade +2" to it as well.

That Nargacuga is a spaz! has anyone gone up against this guy's urgent quest?

1) Eh? I like the controls

2) Because it's not an MMO...seriously...a whole buttetpoint about nameplates?

3) Cats are stupid

4) I play the game almost exclusively in 15 minute bursts. I use sleep mode as my pause button.

Thats whats happened when you abuse of Akantor bow ;) :lol . I repelled him (with 30% health remaining of the city) using and ordinary Tigrex Armor and Eternal Strife, I didn't see any major difference with the guild Gao Ren.

I've always wanted to get in this series since a friend said it was like the Dreamcast version of PSO but a lot more deep(her words). I might have to steal my brother's PSP and check this bad boyout. Should I read the wiki to get a background on the jargon and gameplay mechanics?

I imported MHF2, so have a ~100 hour savegame that I'd like to import in to the PAL (AU/NZ) copy that I bought today. I've spent the past three hours messing around with savegame deemer, memory dumps, and hex editors, all to no avail. I did follow these instructions linked above, but there isn't a Hex Workshop template for the EU release of MHF2 for me to paste my dumped character.

Is anyone able to convert this file for me if I put it somewhere? I just need to convert a US MHF2 to an EU MHF2 savegame.

There's a much easier way. Search for a homebrew called Laboko, there are guides out there on converting MHF2 saves.

I did some more reading of the Minegard forums and there was a conversion thread for MHP2 to MHF2 (http://forums.minegarde.com/index.php?showtopic=2224). This uses a tool called SED, similar to Laboko, to convert the region of Japanese MHP2 to US MHF2 saves.

This works just as well for converting US MHF2 to EU MHF2 saves. All I needed to do was download a European savegame from Gamefaqs (http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/psp/save/934395.html) and use that instead of the Japanese savegame in the thread's example.

So the steps were:
1) Install SED on the memory stick, reboot PSP and run it
2) Decrypt both the EU and US savegames (EU one was downloaded from Gamefaqs, US one was my own savegame)
3) Mount PSP via USB inside the SED tool
4) Swap the filenames of the decrypted savegames that appear in the memory stick root directory
5) Exit USB mode
6) Re-encrypt both the savegames
7) Exit SED
8) Run MHF:U and import my MHF2 savegame
9) FUN

I got my internet back up after a storm hit us last week. I'd like to try an Ad-Hoc Party Monster Hunt tonight if anyone's interested. I moved my router to the basement where the PS3 resides and I'll hook it up when I get back from work (approx. 10:30 or 11 p.m. ET). I took down a Yian Garuga after it constantly kicked my butt in Freedom 2. Even took it's tail and messed up his face too. And I didn't know the long sword's R button move could be used to make successive attacks. That last swipe was what finally took it down, and was pretty damn epic. Looking forward to hunting with others for once. :D

I am not doing anything later, I might be up from some hunting.

I missed you before I had a chance to message you I guess. LOL. Finally got the hang of Ad-Hoc Party though. Maybe tomorrow (unless Sony's return box comes; my PS3 can't read discs at the moment).
