man, I did the 2 Basarios mission twice last night, and I didn't get the one HvyBasariosWng that I need to upgrade my sword. That mission is almost a full hour gruel......

haha. i did that mission once and didn't get the wings i needed. got a buncha shells that i needed. and some tears. but no wings. i found it easier to use hammer than a sword though. bounce less. pound at chest. dont' worry about cutting tail. too bad the chest only breaks when it's near death.

yeah, I took out a hammer, and had a friend along.

The second time, I took my dragon bow, and that seemed to do about the same damage per period of time. At least it doesn't bounce, or keep you in the swing hammer animation for so long.

He is a bastard!

I always use ESP to fight gravios, it's a real pain without it. With ESP you don't ever bounce, for those that don't know. Look for fencing when making a new set...or use my Armor Combo Solver to make one for you (did you see the shameless plug?).

I love ESP. One thing I hated earlier in the game was bouncing off all the tougher monsters. One reason why I always liked the LS, free ESP!

Might also explain why I enjoy the hammer as well. As far as I know Super Pound doesn't bounce does it? Don't think I ever remember it doing so.

you know, I never really knew that ESP did that!

it comes from the fencing skill?

Ad Hoc is great. For me, it changed how I play the game and gave MH longer legs. Anyone on Ad Hoc, feel free to PM me. I am the dude in the HR9 Gold Armor and Hammer.
Hammer > every other weapon
PSN: MiniBossBattle

after learning about the real story behind esp, i'm gonna stick with sharpness+1 & sharp sword. longer lasting purple sharpness is where it's at. since even white bounces like crazy at g-rank. i reserve esp for the really brutal ones, like fatalis.

what's the average HR of everyone here? just wondering to see how crazy questing with peeps here would or would not be.

I'm HR8 mainly a long sword type...

currently working on damn G Rank armor and some lightning sacs.

Same, I only ever used ESP for Fatalis. But the combined animation and sound of weapon bouncing but it goes through anyway kind of weirds me out.

Edit: Funny how the google ads are pointing toward the solver files you need to download for this. Anyone else get that?

That's how Google ads work, it reads through the page and finds an ad in its database that matches what's written on the page, then displays that ad.

hey so i just made Guardian spirit pants and it said something about now being able to change something with S armor.... it went away before i could read it -- what'd it say?

It said you can now change the color of your S series armor. Go to your box at home, Change Equipment, then select Change S-Series Color (you must be wearing at least one piece of S-series armor for this option to become available).

HR4 almost HR5, used to use LS loads but have switched to hammer, doing the feline elder quests now to upgrade my weapons. Need some new armor too.

Omg just tried out adhoc for the first time, was soo fun. Got fed up with Narga killing me solo. Online it went down in like 5 minutes :lol

I'd like to join you guys sometime, currently HR9. PSN: Scatter85

As long as the armor has "S", "X", or "Z", "Guardian Spirit" or "Auroros/Borealis" in its name, you can change the color. It's not a full color change though, just some of the details.

The ads frighten me with their intelligence.

I'm at the part where I'm getting my first hunt quests for things like the Kut-Ku and Congagalia. Feels the game is finally leaving "hold your hand" territory and shit is getting real.

Having a hard time figuring out when I can capture things. I either try waaay too soon or end up killing them.

Kut Ku is the monster that pretty much tests the player as to whether he/she's gotten the hang of the game's mechanics and what not. Make sure to always have him marked because it gets annoying having to wander around trying to see where he flew off to. Watch out when he gets angry, because he'll start bum rushing you until he calms down. You can also break off the pieces of his face to get some drops. Good luck, when I first played Monster Hunter Freedom 2, this monster pretty much set me back a good couple of hours before I got the hang of him.
A good time to capture a monster is when they're near death. You can tell when a monster's weak because it'll start to slowly drag itself off to go to another zone to sleep. It's best to let it go ahead and change zones. Wait a bit before rushing him; if you rush in too fast, the monster will still be awake and it'll start to attack. Let it fall asleep, set up a shock trap somewhere in front of it. Wake it up by hitting it, etc, and let it fall into the trap. Pelter it's face, and watch it fall asleep. :D

I handled him pretty easy after I practiced in the training quest. Just needed to learn when I could safely get in there and beat his ass. Congaglia is proving tougher. Dude just won't die. I'm still using standard sword/shield and wanna switch over to daggers, cause I've been doing pretty well with those, but can't seem to make a decent pair yet, soon though.

Wow, that's great. Good to see you wiped the floor with Kut Ku. Have you thought of trying out other weapons besides SnS and Dual Swords? I remember using Hammer to trip him up constantly and than getting a triple pound on his face, but SnS should be more than enough to get the job done. Avoid his bum rushes as always, and watch out for his farts. Might also want to deal with the monkeys tagging along with Congalala they sometimes get in the way so its better to deal with them first before moving on to Congalala. There's this one attack that he'd do where he'd try to swipe at you a couple of times, and than follow it up with a butt pounce. He stays still for a few seconds after that, so that'd be the best time to get in a few hits. Not giving much advice I know, but if you took care of Kut Ku, you can definitely get this guy.

A good thing to remember when fighting the monkey types (Congalala and Blangonga specifically) is to not stand directly in front or behind them. Congalala can fart you, and Blangonga has this annoying backwards kick. Always attack these dudes from the side until you're comfortable enough taking them on face-to-face, unless they're on the ground after tripping them or after Congalala does the 4-swipe attack (note: this has a Quake effect so stay a bit farther until he's flat on the ground and heaving or you'll miss your opening). Congalala dies pretty easily with a Fire-based weapon. Bring Deodorants in case you get farted on, and watch out for the bugs (Vespoids) since they can randomly paralyze you.

Im finding that teaming up and destroying monsters is getting abit boring now. Im hr9 and have fought all the monsters but crimson fata and have like 5 diffrent rare 10-9 sets for blade master which all have no real point any more due to being able to destroy everything

I need to get people doing group training quests! Thats a real test with limited gear and items fighting G rank monsters is pretty fun!

oh and PSN is Johnlenham aswell as my adhoc name and im usually on most evenings (GMT time)

i want dragonmoss. i know how to get it, but is one location/price going to have a better chance of getting me what i want faster?

if I remember correctly I think it's the swamp for 1000 but cant remember if that's just dragonmoss+ or what.

I honestly have too much at the moment >_<

There is an armor skill later in the game that when a monster is marked, the icon will turn yellow when you can capture it.

Really? Which one is that?!

Each monster has a unique way of telling you when it is weak.
Some go to sleep, some limp away, some start enraging quicker (ie. hit it twice after it calms down and it enrages again), some stand there like retards then try to change zones, their posture changes, the ears of the monster changes position, etc.
The game encourages you to pay attention to the habits of the monster. I like capturing the harder mobs as it shaves an easy 5 minutes off some of the tougher monsters.

When do i get to upgrade to those G level weapons i see on the bottom?

Also, im super pissed the blangonga decimator loses its ice attribute. What GS/LS do you guys recommend for ice?

Ice steel (kushla dora line) or theres the Uca longsword but that kinda sucks.

Decimator is one of the strongest weapons along with tigarex.
G rank weps appear after you kill G rank loa shang but he wont appear till you've done all the G rank Epic quests :lol

Dyfb,
For Dragonmoss, I got plenty by just sending out elana? the cat at the farm. She brings back dragonwood and dragonmoss rather regularly if you send her out to swamp I think.

Send the cat to Forest & hill for 1000 if you want dragonwood and moss. You'll get the + versions as well, if you don't want the + then just 500 should be enough.

Edit: That's volcano for both, F&H for wood and swamp/snowy for moss. Could have sworn I got both from F&H...

The best GS for ice? You don't want a GS for ice, leave that to the faster weapons. For LS, the daora one is the best ice but it's pretty hard to make.

Quick question, who do you need the ice LS for?

Oh and G-rank weapons are open once you beat Ukanlos.

So are there any issues running MH with non official system software? I bought it recently and when I try to run it it wants to upgrade my system software which I've never updated. (PSP2000 for what it's worth.) If I ever wanted to run the non official version do I need to do anything. (Although admittedly I probably won't considering I've had it for almost 2 years.)

I get lots of dragonmoss form sending trenya out to snowy mountains with 300 points. But I swear the higher your HR the better your % is. I'm HR6 and I get it almost every run.

I have had no problems running the umd or my ripped iso on 5.00 m33-6.

I have no problems beating Basarios or the other heavy monsters with my light bowgun and regular bow & arrows. I should graduate to melee weapons soon though, that lance seems pretty sweet.

Just ordered Monster Hunter Freedom Unite online. It's my first Monster Hunter and I'm uber-hyped for this one. But is it really that hard for newcomers? I played the shit out of Phantasy Star Online back then on Dreamcast, is it comparable?

Once you get a hang of the controls and find a weapon you like, it will still kick your ass from time to time.

Just remember that you and the monsters are bound by animation rules, so you can exploit that. Once they're commited to an action, they can't break it until it finishes.

Also the HOLY SHIT dive. Never forget that. It grants invulnerability and will save your ass more than you know.

Received MH Unite the day before yesterday and spent some time playing. So far I finished the Kutku mission and found it very easy using a fully upgraded Rapidcaster bowgun. It only took 20 or so Pierce shells. I don't remember Kutku being this easy? Last MH I played properly was the original on PS2 though, so things might have changed a bit since then. :lol

Following the suggestion of a friend of mine I got myself a full Melahoa armour set. It has Gather+ and Hi Speed Gather skills, plus I upgraded everything to level 5 and it's giving me a 100 defense points. Still, it took the best part of two days the get all that Dosbiscus.

Loving the game and for some reason it feels better on PSP. I guess it's because it's so easy to take the PSP with you and do that quick quest when you have some free time.

I'm thinking of using bowguns exclusively this time again, is it possible to solo everything using bowguns or are there some nasty monsters that will make it difficult beating them at a range?

I'm doing a bowgun only hunting spree at the moment. It has its ups and downs, but as soon as I get the Auto-Reload gems and armor, it's on.

EVERYTHING DIES.

Well, except when I want to catch some, because catching's cool too, but DEATH and all that.

i need a ton of monster broth -- any tips? i've heard great thunderbugs drop it a lot, but (assuming great thunderbugs are the orbs), i've only gotten thunderbugs or thunderbug juice etc.

Ah how good this game make you feel when you slay a powerful elder dragon. Was down to my last herb!! (eaten 10 potions, 10 mega and 9 herbs..) when Teoestra finally flew away :)

Which missions do I need to do in order to unlock the other persons quests in the willage? Have done everyone one the 5*, exept the dual diablos and dual plesioth.

outside of lances, SnS, and long swords I havent really tried other weapons so much and am considering picking up bow even after being HR8 for a few weeks.

never was into projectiles but out of all of them, bow so far is the most fun.

yeah, they have really refined and improved the game since PS2. Remember having to go out and gather all your honey?

Is this game like PSO? I loved that game back in the day, I did buy MH1 on PS2 when it was released but didn't really like it. I'm really wanting to play something similar to PSO though!
