Monster Hunter Freedom Unite Thread

No idea if anyone has an answer for this, but thought I'd ask:

Have my twice-transferred MHF character and all of his junk and such. If I were to perhaps get a PSP Go! further down the line, would my UMD-game save work with the DD game or would I have to start all over?

And if anyone cares, still can't beat that urgent quest with a Tigrex from the elder. Can not beat him! Tried bowing (lolz), hammer, LS...

Yes the save will work on the PSP go (as longs as its the same region).

For Tigrex it was a wall for me too, I just stickied with LS (my preferred weapon). If you can make a thunder weapon, tigrex is weak to that element, and bring lots of flash bombs :lol and when he is dizzy cuts the tail, then move to claws, and at last the face, also make him stuck his teeth to the wall and you get some free hits that way (and a shinny hell yeah!). Then just learn his patterns and you will beat the f*cker :lol

EDIT: beated by 2 min :lol

Bought MHFU back in July, but haven't put more than 5 single-player hours into it yet. It is fun, but I wish it had infrastructure online. I have no friends with PSPs and I'm an older gamer, to boot. We old guys don't have PSP game gatherings.

I do have a PS3, though. I wonder if Capcom plans an update to patch in support for the Dual Shock bluetooth control pad for use with the PSPgo. Seems like a nice way to play the game is to run Adhoc Party, run your PSP video out to an HDTV, and use a Dual Shock to play. But you may as well just play MH Tri, no?

My son likes the LS (Thunder attribute) for it. I am mainly a gunner so I can kill it (elder quest) with the bow and only use a health potion or two all fight, if that :D . When we take on the HR Tigrex, we use flash bombs and I will maybe lay a shock trap to make it easier.

Any page where I can see the rewards you might get from certain quest?

if you are looking for specific items, and don't know where they are, google is your best friend. 99% of the time, just typing the item into google will take me to some forum somewhere where people are talking about different ways to get it, and even the best way to get it.

Just finished the hard rank cat quest, 2 black gravios with nargacuga's LS. Wore rathalos S armor, and had very little trouble unless they were in the same zone.

so far ive done most of the hard rank cat quests, but I have yet to get the urgent. Guess I need to do kirin and shen gaoren. Still only hr 2, but I feel like G rank wont be too hard with my current weps/armors.

I must say, this game is a lot easier than mhf2, probably because of the cat helper.

yeah the cat helper makes a world of difference IMHO. Largely because it can attract aggro and has stat boosts for you. I usually pref a cat that can heal though since it's always nice to get a heal boost randomly sometimes saving my ass.

I have true health flute, lg barrel bombs, and shock traps on mine. Can definitely attest to that health flute comment.

I'm just starting and it's the first thing I did. Franco is currently lifting weights, later I'll watch him do sit ups while I stand by menacingly.

Also I read about ESP skill, but I dont know if there is an armor where I can get evade +2, evade dist up and esp with 1 set.
Sword Saint Piercing, Obituary(Butterfly) X torso, Narga X gloves, waist and legs will get you exactly that with appropriate decorating, though you need a weapon with 2 slots. It looks good for a male armor too.

14 hours and counting? or did you stop at a speed bump, and put it down.

10 hours with one male avatar, then I restarted and put 3 more hours into a female avatar.
Right now i'm taking a break while I wait for my PSPGo right now

The cats are great because they draw the attention of the monster away now and again, allowing you to heal, run, whatever you need to do.

And leveling up the cats is great fun. I'm trying to decide where to spend my little buddys skill points right now.

The cat armor doesn't show stats though, and I'm not sure which he should be wearing. Do you eventually unlock more options?

You only can change the skin, there are like 3 options (one unlocked if you download any quest) but the defense is the same... Even if you learn a skill that you dont like, you can unlearn it and it will give you half the points you expend. Better than nothing I guess.

Question. Does the cat attack or defense flutes stack with cat meals buffs and armorskin/demondrug potions?

If the cat flute is the same as an armor or attack flute a player can use, then yes.

Well I dont know that :S I dont use flutes. I always get the cats to make me a defense buff, and always bring an armorskin, but I certainly dont know if they stack :lol maybe I just waste the armoskin. If anyone knows if the cats buffs stack please let us know.

Do a test wait till your kitty buffs you and look at your def. Use an armorskin and see if that changes.

I know the Demon and Armor flutes stack because one of my buddies was hardcore into buffing. He managed to get my attack to over 2200 at one point in time with food buffs and skins.

So after trying to do Tigrex solo Village quest twice, getting him down to his cave retreat in 40 minutes, then failing twice, looks like I'm fucking done with this piece of shit game for another month cool-down period :lol

I was beginning to enjoy the game and really get back into it, but when Tigrex fucking went into rage for a full 20 minutes, I am not having fun anymore the game is just being fucking ridiculous.

:lol looks like tigrex is "a wall" for everyone :lol dmn at least wait for nargacuga/rajang :lol believe me, they are way more annoying than tigrex.

How is this game as a single player game? Is it still enjoyable to play or do you really need to team up with others to enjoy the game?

^lol 1337th post

Anyway, the game is still hecks lot of fun. There are many people who solo the whole game out of challenge and because they don't have other people to play with. It wouldn't be as fun as teaming up with other people, but that doesn't mean the game isn't fun. I have 130 hours logged in the game right now, all solo.

Also, just a reminder: Armor/Power Seeds don't stack with Armor/Demon Flute of the kitties. Seeds are so easy to farm (just plant them), so unless you know you can have a steady supply of non-seed attack/def buff items, don't bother teaching your cat those flutes. Make a healer instead, like True Health Flute + Workaholic + Speedy Recovery.

To the guy having problem with the Tigrex, do the Tigrex training, and watch the GS charge tutorial on Tigrex on YouTube. You'd be surprised how easy he is with Greatswords. Hell, I've beaten him only with GS on the training, and I don't even use Greatswords!

edit: I doubt Health + True Health flutes stack. I tried it once with Workaholic but didn't feel any different, he's still fluting at the same rate, so might as well stick with just True Health.

I find that nargacuga is easier than Tigrex. Its all a matter of predicting their next move, and knowing how to counter, but narga has always been a cake walk for me; tigrex took some practice.

I am of the opinion that both Narga and Rajang are way less annoying than Tigrex. I find it easier to avoid Narga's jumps than Tigrex' stupid back and forth dashes, and if you stay on Rajang's right-hand side (or rather his 2 o'clock) he hardly ever hits you.

Yea I find that rex gives less safe attack openings for melee weapons than those two. Unless your flinching him, or playing the flash bomb/trap game, he can be a threat to the melee hunter who doesn't know him in and out.

The skill Health for the cats only gives them more HP.

I know Narga and rajang are easier (well, narga I killed in my first time, but I think it was just for how much I have hunted Tigrex, is similar) and Rajang, also do it at first try, but I was extremelly caution of its attack when I tried his quest, I had lots of potions, power ups and stuff but he is very fast.

Tigrex, yes is annoying, but when I hitted "the wall" I needed to try like 5-6 times his quests to learn his attacks and then react accordingly. Hell yesterday did the HR5 urgent quest alone(2 Tigrex) and didnt have a problem, only when them teamed up in one area :lol

You can only take 1 cat at a time with you, right?

And are there only the 3 maps in this game? Or do you unlock more later?

Tigrex was a bitch to learn. I went LS on my 2nd play through so I had to do it the hard way but the easiest way for me was the GS.
Get a good Lightning GS and stand in front of the wall he can get his teeth stuck into. Block as he charges right into the wall. He gets stuck and you get a free 3 charge shot to his face every time. Thats how I did it. If there is no wall for him to get stuck in go ahead and use the flash/trap to hit him.

I still have problems with Narga from time to time but its not nearly as bad as Tigrex was. The only thing that really gets me is his spiky tail slam, for some reason I can never tell when he is going to do it. Never made the connection :(

I usually use a poison S&S when fighting Rajang. Normal Rajang was always super easy for me. The g-rank super saiyan Rajang I still cant beat though. Think that may be the one I will want to do with my friends.

I guess I will have to go in there with flash bombs as well (what do I need to combine for them?) but I went in with Eager Cleaver as thats the best long sword I have until I unlock the Tower maps (after Tigrex!) for Devil Slicer. Had chopped off his tail, bother head horns and think fucked up his wing. He was understandbly angry perhaps, but I think an attack where he can do 3 fucking area spanning superfast charging attacks with 180 turning is a little bit much.

So I end up losing 2 hours of my life to this motherfucker. Ignites the rage quitter inside of me.

Yes, only 1 cat at a time and you unlock more maps when you have to hunt monster in those areas, there are like 12-13 of them.

Awesome. Now on to kill Giadrome a few more times.

Same place / time / everything for me. Wall hit on that dude too, as I've posted in the past. That's OK; just been going through Guild Hall quests with some hunting buddies..

I'm having a really hard time trying to do all the trainings. Not because the monsters are hard or anything, its just I CANT use spear or gunlance properly.

I mean, damn, that weapon feel slow as hell, I dont have a problem with attacks, I can get close and land a hit or two, the problem is bailing out. Trying to roll out just do a back hop but it doesnt even reach that far so, if a monster do a tail spin it always hit me. Doing the attack and then putting down the weapon and trying to run take a lot of time and they always hit me...

Any tips for a noob using spears? :lol

Sidesteps and backdashes with a lance can be used multiple times in succession if you have enough stamina for it.

Also keep in mind you can block really well with the lance/gunlance. Sometimes you don't need to bail out just block, hit, block, hit, etc.

Really tempted to pick this up from PSN sale for my Go, £18. Is the learning curve ridiculously steep / upfront grinding excessive?

Thanks for the tips. Also always forgot about blocking :S Im too much attached to not block weapons (ie LS, DS, LBG) I need to start blocking because having problems with a kut ku on the training is just embarassing :lol

The game has a high learning curve. It becomes very fun once you get the hang of it and develop some actual skills. If you are into running head first into a monster with weapon swinging like a mad man, prepare to die... A LOT

No worries, I was HR 5 or so before I even touched a lance or gunlance. It took me 15 tries or so to get down Yian Garuga with the lance.... Even then I barely scratched by, not a big fan myself.

I used lance for a long time, it's a difficult weapon. You have to get in the habbit of blocking all the time. I would block everything in hunting party play. There is very little you can't block.

It's hard for a DS or LS user to pick up a Lance and use it correctly.

I used to have to tell people I was playing with to stop telling me to "LOOK OUT!" or "MOVE RIGHT!" because I didn't have to move anywhere as long as I had stamina :lol
