if you start with the right weapon the learning curve is not that harsh... the real learning curve comes with timing and patience.

better ask already now then - what's the right weapon to start with? Not Lance it seems!

Its not like "what weapon is best" every weapon is the best. The thing is you first do some basic training with each weapon, so you test all the weapons and then you decide which one is better for you, the one you feel confortable with. Basically that :D

Choose whats best feel for you. Try out some training quests first.

In the end you will want to become familiar with more than one weapon. There are certain monsters that lance/gunlance works really well with. Plesioth is one of them and he is a bastard. If you get good with lance that will make your life a little bit easier down the road.

All I seem to like in this game is the dual blades. Everything else is too slow or cumbersome. I wish there was a spear....just a spear. Not a lance with a shield, just one long Bo like Spear. And a smaller single handed sword and no shield.

I like agility over defense, and eastern style forms of combat with weapons more than western; and every single weapon in these games is just too slow. I hate being stuck in an animation and getting assaulted.

It's probably why I get frustated when I play, I've got a real Love-Hate relationship with MH. I've recently started playing with the nub weapons (blade and shield and huge 2 hander), just doesn't feel right not hopping around the screen and trying to dodge the heck out of attacks.

I've yet to even play to 3 star missions...why do I want to love these games so much? Everything about them is awesome...except for the combat.

I am so close to breaking my PSP in two pieces. I swear to fucking god. TIGREX CUNT. I go into this fight with every slot full with fucking healing shit, traps, hot drinks, rations. I fuck the thing up and use up all items in the process, then it retreats to its fucking cave where it can do its 3x Rush which is just broken as all hell and collision detection seems pretty off on as well.

Just what the fuck are you supposed to do in that tiny space?! Its absurd. Why am I even playing this, thats another hour of my life with nothing to show for it. ARRRRRRRRRRGGGGHHHHHHH.

I just bought this game, how many hours of gameplay does it have with singleplayer only? without the DLC stuff, I'm curious

capture it. trap the hell out of it. that is, if you don't need traps to beat it down before hand. protip: shock traps. pitfall doesn't work there.

So far I'm using the sword and shield, it's the easiest for me to control. I'll work my way into the other ones soon.

Hire a cat as soon as possible so you can start leveling him up. Once I got the cat, the game really started clicking for me.

The cat actually makes single player in this game bearable. When I tried to get too far in Freedom 2, it was just ludicrously hard because the monster would only ever be targeting you. Ruthless AI that would rape you time and time again. But now you have a cat decoy partner, the monster will often chase the cat and not you and even get confused about who it should be chasing at all.

So basically, don't use any of my shock-traps until the cave? God dammit, they take so long to set up in there in such a small space though. I hate this game!

YES. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

Yeah thats right you toothy fuck! 10,000z lighter and switching to this Sentoryu Raven greatsword, it all fell into place. Trying to take the thing with a longsword and thus inability to block and pull off the Wall-bite trick was making things shitloads harder than they needed to be. One Shock Trap plopped into the cave while it was napping to wake up to my fucking great big sword in it's eye and I appear to have the same feeling of relief after having a 1 week abstinence furious wank :lol

Tigrex wasn't that hard whit LS, just be sure to have evade +2, helped a lot, hes only annoying attack was hes dash in rage mode, really dangerous in a small area.
Be sure to bring shock traps + materials.

Anyway is the volcano the best place to find rust stones, need one to make the ice LS.

You know what sucks even harder then a tigrex ? 2 tigrexes at the same time. Welcome to the feline elderdome.

btw, tigrex isn't that hard with a GS. As he charges past you, run until you're next to his tail, charge your sword and maxslash him in the head. After a slash, retreat. When he goes berserk, don't even bother to unsheath your sword. run run run run run run run run. Don't forget that you CAN block his charge with a GS btw.
Once you have the method down he's a pinch.

wait wat? I thought there is no rust stone for LS... please tell me Im wrong

Also, Damyio Hermitaour with lance is a bitch... :lol I attack him and when he comes to attack me I block, and since he is in front of me, He attacks inmediately so need to block again, and the loop bgins, until I have no stamina :lol Any strategies for this?

I wouldn't bother turning a flat ruststone into the ice LS because that branch has a weapon you can make (the icesteel blade).

If you're doing daimyo lance training, you should try to get in some attacks in between his attacks. The easiest way to do this is block his attack, counter attack, and guard his next attack. You should be able to stun him before your stamina is gone.

If your stamina is almost gone, you should sheathe your weapon and retreat at the first opportunity to do so, even if he's lying on the ground and looking like an easy target.

I decided to try the training just now and the only part that might be tricky is sharpening your weapon, which you won't have to do more than once. You could probably save your shock trap for that. You shouldn't even have to worry about using your stamina up since he will get stunned often enough to recover most of your stamina.

As long as you keep counter attacking, you'll recover stamina.

Ranged is the easiest way to beat plessie.

If you have a decent bowgun that can shoot thunder shots and pierce shots, you should shoot it in the head. All element shots except fire and dragon have a piercing attribute, and plessies will take tons of damage from pierce shots that travel from its head through its body to its tail. You may want to bring ingredients for making more thunder shots and pierce shots.

Flame shots are also good.

You only need to be careful about avoiding being stepped or slithered on, mostly. When you have two in the area, you're sometimes better off trying to keep up your attacks on the first one since the first one will tend to leave a lot sooner if you keep attacking it.

I tried it again and hell no, he always kick my ass...

You say counter attack... is it an attack while blocking or something? how can i do it? or its just a normal attack?

Any tips for the Dual Green Plesioth in the Old Jungle? (8 stars old cat quest)

I leaved that quest unfinished because that quest is really hard... they always team up because there are only 2 areas for them. I can only wish you good luck :lol

This is your best tip. I mostly tried to take them one on one, but when I was forced to fight them both I just stood nead the exit as I shot them, so I could retreat like a coward if they came too close.

When you're guarding (right shoulder button), you have a "poke" attack that immediately puts your guard back up when the attack is done. You press triangle while holding down the right shoulder button to do the attack. Basically you keep holding down the right shoulder button to keep your guard up.

I tried the quest again and the easiest way to fight it is to make sure that you're always facing it (left shoulder button might be the easiest way since the daimyo's forward lunge is the most likely reason you won't be facing the fight direction. As long as you're facing it, always move forward since this will guarantee that your stamina will recover, even while it's attacking you. (You should probably not move forward if it's in the middle of its high jump)

You'll probably lose a level of sharpness while attacking it and the easiest thing to do is just keep your guard up and walk toward it until it gets bored and digs underground. Just run somewhere safe (I can't really give you any tips here) and sharpen your weapon.

To be honest you have to rush the first one. I did this quest once solo with the LS after about 15 attempts. If you can manage to get one alone, trap it and do as much damage as possible. Keeping trapping till its dead or its buddy comes. Its suicide to try em both in the same room, just keep em paintballed and try to kill one of em.

The other times I have done it for mats, I brought some friends with our paralyze weapons and traps....

Will never do that quest again if I have any say in it lol....

Why is this game so hard? :(

I still have only played the demo.

It's not hard. It's challenging.

It's so hard to explain that there is a right and wrong way to approach each monster with each weapon. I honestly feel bad for some frustrated players.

Thanks for the advice, at end with luck and a light bowgun the fight was fairly easy :lol . I was so surprised, I killed those fuckers in 23 minutes, and only using only 2 potions (I had luck because they paired only a few times). I used a light bowgun with 240 power attack at level 1 (I don't remember the name, it was a blue), leveled and using all the usual buffs it does 330 of damage. The armor set was an Hermitaur S (reload + 1, decent raw defense and +20 against water), and I used thunder and piercing ammo. The trick is to maintain always a good distance (even in the small places when you fight them in the Old Jungle), NEVER be static in front of the Plesioth, and when he is in the water and pops out to shoot water beams, stay close but to the side, he'll never hit you. Then the only problem is facing the two of them at the same time, but in this case get out of the zone and wait them to split away, if they don't simply restart the mission.

Is that a problem? Its a challenging game which is why it is so awesome.
Not a problem, I like a challenge. I feel like games these days are far too easy and I like being able to figure out how to tackle a situation...getting it right makes my brain feel like it's being massaged.

But should a fight against a monster take so long? I took out this dragon in the demo but it took like 10 minutes to do. I felt like I was doing it wrong, I just kept wacking him and just felt like I wasn't doing any damage. Then he just eventually fell down. :lol

yeah normally they take longer (sometimes you use all the time they give you) so, yeah 10 min is fine...

I have been playing games for..what? 21 years now? Monster Hunter kicks my ass like nothing else.

Its maddening, its infuriating, its a time gobbling piece of shit. But you keep coming back for that sweet armour you have your eyes on and need one last carve, or that weapon thats going to change everything I swear, you'll be cutting through Tigrex testicle like butter.

I am currently stuck for my next upgrades. Just completed a full set of Yian Garuga armour which I'm sure is probably what everyone else did once upon a time since its damn good across the board. Now the focus lies on my weapons. To upgrade to the best Great Sword available to me currently is probably the Ceanataur one which requires a Ceanataur Pincer, which try as I might I just cannot get (involves smashing one of it's claws I guess?) or I update my Eager Cleaver to Devil Slicer but I need some Kirin Thunder Tails and I havent encountered a Kirin yet. I don't have a ranged weapon or armour set at all yet either, but the funky dark Umbrella Gun I can make right now is tempting. GUIDE ME, MONHUN SAGES, what shall I do?

10 mins is a short fight. Some of these baddies can take 30-40 mins depending. It gets quicker the better you get and when you can hit every opening.

I think it emulates a real fight with a monster. Imagine taking on one of these guys, I can't imagine it would be one shot and be over with. Also keep in mind the time period here.

:lol :lol , there is your problem, that thing is a bitch. What weapon (type and name) are you using, what's you HR?

EDIT: You knew where to hit it? I believe it only has two weak points, the tail and the top of the head.

Oh I've got fucking that giant armoured purple chicken down to an art. I chop off it's tail so it can't poison me anymore, then I proceed to CAVE IT'S SKULL IN REPEATEDLY. Only the retard run causes problems because of its complete 0-60mph startup you just can't dodge. But anyway, I don't need anything from that fucker anymore. I have all it's armour, and even a great sword from it.

So now its where to go next from here because all the other armour at the shop I look at is ass, and I probably need a blue sharpness blade by this point, so suggestions please?

Also I always wear the Bullfango Mask because I like the lovely extra health boost it gives and also because it makes me look like some bad-ass Boar-Man :D

As you complete missions it will unlock more armour. There is this really nice block that has Rathalos, Monoblos, Diablos, Gravios are you there yet?

I am a ranged character but my favorite is full Monoblos. Some easy modding and I have Attack Up (Medium), Health +30 and Potential +1, which is essentailly a nice defense boost.

I've been doing single player Village Elder stuff actually to unlock all the farm and ice cave shit while I've been away from my PS3 for the week, but now I'm back. I had Gravios armour for a bit but skipped to Garuga stuff because its a nice all round armour that doesnt have some crazy -2 against Fire penalty or whatever which I'd forget about and get flame raped.

I wouldnt mind finally offing Shen Gaoren to get my urgent out the way and HR rank up finally at some point if I invoke Monster Hunter Monday perhaps?

So I'm wondering here...is there ANY place I can get Great Hornflys besides the Insect Thickets on the Pokke Farm? I need two more to complete my Obituary set, but they're just not dropping.

^^^^^You can get them from the bug tree using the black or gold cat hammers.

Also I believe in Area 2 in the Volcano you can bugnet them

Don't have the Bug Tree yet. Getting that involves beating Tigrex. :lol Still need to do that.

And I've tried the Volcano plenty. Haven't seen one there yet. But I'll look a bit more.

Youre right you can only get them with thicket +2 and higher...you will get the most great hornflies from the bug tree though.

I do love this game. I am still pretty early in it, because I suck. But I have fun. The damn Congalala is giving me problems.

I got my hands on a PSPgo this weekend, I don't see the problem with playing MH, the only big difference seemed to be that you don't actually see your fingers on the shoulder buttons.
