As said before i made Light Bowguns and Bows specifically for this bastard
and his Green incarnation
due to not bothering to deal with his horseshit :(

It felt so good to rake the mofo with piercing thunder arrows all over. Sometimes I get scared at how much pleasure I take in turning him into a giant fish skewer.

Having just recently fought Plesioth for the first time in local co-op with a friend, that's somewhat of an understatement. What a douche bag of a monster.

Yeah, I know. Its an absolute joke of a monster to fight with melee weapons. I'm not looking forward to fighting the high level ones. Sigh.

Well given the bullshit he deserves it and i like his death animation.

Yea like the quest where you have to fight 2 of them.

Hell i'm loling at thought of the G-rank version. :lol

:( No backups?

Start fresh with MHP3rd and backup your savedata folder at least once a month.

This is the reason I stopped playing the game in wait for MHP3.

Had that happen to me but it was about 750 hours in MHF2. So sad. I restored my backup and it was about 300 hours in... I haven't touched that character since, I just started a new one.

I do this... as well as with all my other PSP saves since the battery pack on my system dies pretty fast nowadays... just not rich enough to afford a replacement battery.

Shen Gaoren. Cool idea, horrible execution.

Gonna be picking up a PSP tomorrow, as well as this game. Gonna be my first Monster Hunter game. Any advice for a newbie?

I actually will have a couple of people to play ad hoc with occasionally, but a lot of solo play as well.

I just recently started playing Freedom Unite myself, only 44 hours in, still essentially a beginner but here are my two cents...

Go through the training school in the village and try each weapon once, just to see which ones you like. If you're going to do a lot of solo play you will need to have a couple of different weapons on the go.

Don't spend too much time farming for low level armor. Obviously you need better gear to survive on your own but if your friends are all fairly high level they can probably help you push you up a few Hunter Ranks. That's where you can start earning the serious gear. They could help you farm the materials for your first real suit.

Yep, hit the nail on the head. Same goes for Loa Shan Lung. Thankfully they finally figured out how to do Giant Monsters correctly in Tri.

Honestly, just use sword and shield first and get used to the timing of the monsters. The whole game is about timing. You could take down virtually any monster if you know its moves inside and out. Thus, the SnS is great for beginners since it allows blocks and you can dodge out of the way. It's not that great later on, but it's a good start.

Easiest way to 'win'? Just read the faqs or watch some videos. A lot of them use the greatsword, strafe and dodge to get into a good position, then charge up their attack and let it unleash. That's how I've seen most bosses taken down. When you're more comfortable, move onto hammers and horns. GOD I FUCKING LOVE HORNS!

I wish I could get into MH again, but at this point, I'm just waiting for the 'next gen' ver that ISN'T on Wii...

I've heard about the improvements made to the giant monster quests in Tri, but I don't think I'll experience them until I get Portable 3rd. I have Tri, I have put a decent amount of time into it but I can't juggle two Monster Hunters at once. Freedom Unite is my poison of choice. Still, something to look forward to in Portable 3rd.

You laugh but I spent the majority of those hours just farting around completing elder quests, the highest rank being three star quests at the moment. It wasn't until a recent local multiplayer session that I made some serious progress.

i figured this is a bit more relevant to the psp games than to tri...

edit: nevermind, just saw the other thrad

Just the 3 star Elder green version. It's the combination of its damned hitbox and constantly jumping into the water. It's just cheap and annoying. If only I could sonic bomb its ass into the sky so high that it died the moment it hit the ground.

and that's just the elder version

dude just get a gun/bow, it will save you the heartache and/or rage.

Wait till you have to fight dual G-Rank Plessy in Old Jungle.

Sonic Bombs? Shit's useless if they love to have sex in one area.

*shudder*

now this is the bullshit i'm in for :/

Oh god, I don't even want to fight 2 high or G rank Plesioths in the same quest. I'll probably throw and smash my PSP if I do.

fixed

As a long sword user that is by far one of the most annoying fights, it's an annoying juggling act trying to pull off a long combo string to try and build up my spirit meter versus not committing to a combo and getting stuffed with the hip check or that derp-y tail swish. If I can stand between his legs and stay there, then get that bastard to constantly swivel while I hack away at his legs, build up spirit and hack some more. Stagger, damage animation, hack some more. Die, DIE DIE!

If I can play these later Plesioth quests with friends I will. Even with a felyne companion it's too much of a pain in the ass to solo that bastard. If I can't play with friends, well then I hope those damned quests aren't required for progression.

I'd try the fight as a Gunner but the whole split with armors between Blademasters and Gunners is what holds me back.

G-Rank dual Plessy is actually required, lol.

As for armors, just go pick any gunner set with a shot UP in mind (Normal/Pellet/Pierce/Element). They respectively boost damage by 10%/30%/10%/20%. The rest of the skills just become bonuses, like Bullet Limit. I forgot which gunner sets I use though, but I very rarely ever update my gunner armory.

this is what i need to get down since i just picked something so i could go on the quest. :lol

You get break rewards wherever.

Don't expect good rewards from the low star HR1 guild quests though (1-3* I think). For instance, you won't get webbings from Rathalos.

Alright. I was breaking all these monsters and was just getting normal stuff.

Sometimes I hop on Ad-Hoc Party, but schoolwork is preventing me from being on more often.

Anyways, High-Rank Yian Garuga is a gigantic dick and I die horribly to him in rage mode. That is all.

Don't forget to farm after every mission. The mining points are the best source for armor spheres to upgrade your defense (as well as ores for creating equips), and the beehive is basically the only source of honey for making Great Potions you will ever need. Once you get Power Seeds you can plant them at a fully-upgraded farm for you to eventually sell, and makes a great rainy day fund.

Sorry to bump this thread, but I can't help but talk about this game.

I finally bought it because of a sale. I tried the demo on probably 4 or 5 different occasions, always coming away with the impression that the controls sucked, I didn't like the art, it's not a game for me, ect.

Now that I own the final game as opposed to the demo, I can't believe I was too stupid to buy this when it was brand new. This game is FANTASTIC. It doesn't necessarily share much with it in terms of gameplay, but to me this game is like a PSP Demon's Souls. It's the kind of game where the more you put in, the more you get out.

I have been playing so slowly. To put it into perspective, I'm 13 hours in and I'm only halfway through the 2-Star missions from the old lady in the village. I just kept trying different weapons and exploring the upgrade system, trying out the capturing mechanics, farming, ect.

It's the kind of PSP game where I will play it on my TV using a controller, and then when it goes dead I'm plugging it in to play it some more while I wait for it to charge so I can play it on the TV again! It's such a weird blend IMO in the way that it can be a portable game you play for 10 minutes or it can also be a game that you can't pull yourself away from for hours. I can't wait to get further in, and hopefully I'll find anyone who still plays it online.

My friends and I play this pretty much every other saturday night on ad-hoc party. all we have left is taking out white fatalis and getting the crown entries on our cards. I see groups for mhfu on ad-hoc all the time so yes there are still quite a few people playing it if you want to find a group. unfortunately mine is full every saturday.

I should have known people still play online since every time I tried to play Peace Walker I would only find MHFU rooms. I definitely need MUCH more play time before I jump online, though. I'm a very green little hunter at the moment.

Also, after trying all the weapons, somehow I landed on gunlance. It's a strange weapon indeed.

After going through the game with Hammers and the occasional lbg I created a new character a bit ago that is pretty much gunlances only as well. I love them, they are a great weapon once you learn it.

I can't believe I've played this game for over 80 hours (a mixture of local coop and single player) and I'm still learning shit. 80 hours and I still feel like a total neophyte. Up until very recently I didn't know how to properly use my kitchen, didn't staff up enough felynes, used a few times to poor effect and that was that until my MH buddies told me I was doing it wrong. Now it's fully staffed, I use it before every quest and my felynes are all leveling up their cooking skills. I can't believe what a HUGE difference a good meal makes. Or never looking too deep into armor skills when crafting a new set, not looking at the drawbacks beyond the elemental strengths/weaknesses or jeweling out those weaknesses. Sometimes some of this stuff seems so elementary that I feel like such an idiot for not knowing or taking advantage of some of this stuff sooner.

only game i play on my psp and alone justifies the purchase. i tried it once ages ago (MHF) and was making very slow progress. When tri came out i gave that a shot and had a great time but it gets quite addictive (played about 300 hours at last check) and my gf doesn't like me to hog the tv every night with monster huntin' ;) so portable is ideal. coming to MHFU after experience with Tri really helped me with understanding the game and i've progressed much faster than i originally did. plus the Go button placement is way better for quick camera adjusts than the fat was. i've tried using a controller but keep instinctively pushing the right stick.

not ventured into ad-hoc party or whatever it's called yet, mostly been doing solo (cleared up to chief's 6* and gathering house 4*/HR2) and some local co-op with a buddy.

totally agree with this. very different games obviously but sharing some kind of common approach to combat (mindfulness > speed) and to risk/reward. the satisfaction you feel when a seemingly unbeatable foe is reduced to the status of an errant puppy through practice and observation is what gaming, for me, is all about.

oh and playing dress-ups. man i have so many armours..
