Monster Hunter: Rise Digital Event - January 7th, 6am PST

To me Monster Hunter Tri (non Ultimate) had the coolest and most coherent overall aesthetic in the series yet, and was also the most robust new entry. I loved the enhancements which made it more user friendly without however ditching staple elements and changing the style too much and all the new additions (bring back the swimming pls). Rise looks pretty decent though. I don't get the complaints for muddy textures and things, you can tell it's no longer powered by a home sized chip but it's not like World assets were all amazing either, it's a rather crude and rough looking game often enough as you go through all its content. I even sort of scoffed at Portable 3rd which after Tri was clearly not the A-team's creation at the time but at this point with the direction the main series has taken since then it feels like it could be a breath of fresh air the way they go back to that and rework it to be more competent, robust and higher end than it could be back then. Hopefully the PC version leaks are true and I get to play it (even if it's the same in UDH), whether it becomes a major hit or not (I don't think anything other than a next gen World 2 after leaving the World fanbase starved for a bit and being able to wow them with an all next gen look can have as much success, it's not like yearly MonHuns of the past sold to core fans).
I think Generations Ultimate is the greatest and best Monster Hunter we have ever gotten. The amount of content is just astounding. I think World and Rise are a big deviation from the originals and doesn't have the same magic anymore, it just feels too generic. Your thoughts?

Like I said I scoffed at the B team's games back when mainline was awesome like Tri, but now it does seem like they're actually sticking closer to the original vision that back then they seemed to deviate further from and being more anime and over the top, now anime is more like old school Monster Hunter than the mainline :messenger_tears_of_joy:

But I think objectively I'd say 4U is the best overall which feels more coherent and less like a mish mash of different things (like XX/GU's whole point was to celebrate all of MH up to that point so it can hardly be faulted for I guess), even though I'm not a huge fan of the zanny wild west style compared to what Tri was going for...

Can we expect for the demo to be released today?

I would like to play this on Switch but the lack of voicechat prevents me. Hopefully there is truth to this getting a PC version.
Yeah the lack of voice chat completely sucks. Maybe the integrate a solution for that in this one?

Hope it comes to PC but with cross-play so I can play with some friends.

I have no idea why the didn't do it with world, such a missed chance, its the best type of game for this sort of thing. I'd really like to play with some friends on PC but I can't be bothered starting from scratch when I have 1400 hours on console...

I wonder if it's possible we'll get the PC announcement here. I really want this game but I can hold off on the Switch version if the PC port isn't too far off.

Either way, a demo release seems highly likely. Especially since this starts pretty early.
I'm guessing they'll just shove it out of the door unceremoniously, that's the usual for games with exclusivity deals attached.
Happens all the time when EGS exclusives finally publish on Steam, it's part of the deal. They're not allowed to build hype or preorders.

Do I hope they show PC? Of course! The cat's out of the bag on that anyway.

Isn't this a Nintendo event? I seriously doubt they're going to undercut their own sales by announcing a PC version during their own stream.

It's a Capcom event, not a Direct. I doubt they'll say anything about PC, and I'd bet both Capcom and Nintendo are pretty pissed its existence was leaked.

Mizutsune is back. Nice. Also good to see Khezu again.

Not sure how I feel about riding the monsters.
Yeah, riding seems kinda lame imo. Hope it's not a central mechanic and somewhat limited.

I really digging the visual style this game is going for. I just hope I can experience everything without ever need to play with other people, I enjoy playing these type of games solo.

Lots to like about this game, but not sure I can go back to MH @ 30fps... I'll give the demo a try and see if its bearable. Still think this will get a PC release further down the line.

Will give the demo a try. If I do get it for Switch, I'll be doing it all solo, which won't be nearly as fun as having my group playing like we did in World.

After playing World for 100s of hours in glorious 60 fps on PC I can't go back to 30. Will wait on the PC port.

Game looks good though. Will miss World's graphics.

Looks like the quests in the demo can only played 30 times.

Heh, bridging the gap with MH Stories with that wyvern riding. Guess it's just setpiece esque opportunity for some extra damage on strong enemies, much like the constantly-happening monster vs monster moments in World combined with the existing monster mounting, but more interactive. Not the meat of the game, but neat.

Also people in here think Rise looks better than World?
Come on.

I was lucky enough to snag one of the new Nvidia GPUS and I've been completely hooked on this since I got it. With the 4k texture pack at 60fps this game looks absolutely amazing.

Leviathans back on the menu boys! That was my biggest takeaway with this presentation. Lagiacrus let's go!

I'm still a little annoyed at how action-y the game is versus gauging your animations vs. the enemy's attack, which is the entire appeal of MH combat (to me at least). The monster mounting brings back the f'ing wall bash, which I hated in Iceborne, so that's a bummer. I also wonder if your team can get hit by friendly fire while you're controlling the monster. Seems like a new level of griefing is incoming if so.

Maybe I'm just naysaying, but to me it still looks like they're prioritizing fast action DMC-esque combat in this one vs. real MH combat. Wonder if it will pay off for them. How did Japan like the changes to combat that MH:W brought?

Going back to 30fps will just be hard for me.

Plus it would just be nice to see how much the art could shine if it were on modern platforms :lollipop_baby_angel:
Erm, World on consoles was an unstable 30-50 fps, even in the performance mode on pro and X at that. And frequently even lower than 30... So how is the Switch game going "back" to 30fps for a console user? Hopefully back to stable 30 like pre-World MonHun I guess? Or are you getting a PS5 just to play PS4 games decently?

Only PC players have the right to entertain the idea of fps snobism (yet apparently so many are fine with locking to 30 to get absurd resolution with bells and whistles in certain software, but when others play other software at 30 it's no good, lol) though the power World needs to get 60fps at all times is still silly for how it looks.

To me MHR is graphically more appealing

Even though the MHW gif is of poor quality and not representative of how it looks on an OLED TV (with or w/o HDR), it still looks better than the MHR gif. MHW scene and assets (trees, grass, foliage etc.) look like they are real while the MHR look like they are props set up in the background for a stage play.

Looks really, really good. Best looking game on Switch? Definitely jumping in on this one; didn't like the split map on Generations Ultimate but got on well with MH: World. This looks more like the latter?

I believe they said they're one large area now instead of split up.

I can't remember the last time I was this hyped for a demo.

The screenshots in the eShop look really bad for some reason, but everything else I've seen looks pretty good

To me is really not about which has better graphics from tech prospective, its pretty obvious that World is much more advance when it comes to tech. With that being said, I just like aesthetics of the Monster Hunter Rise waaay more, both from world design and character design.

Also this the my biggest reason why I'm hype for this game....

In this entry you have so much more mobility which makes the traversing the world and fighting much more fun.
