Monster Hunter Wilds: How exactly can I just play through the whole story with friends in co-op?

How is Wilds meant to be played when all we want is just play through the story as a group of friends?

So for example my story quest is to hunt a particular monster, my friend has the same quest. We can't just travel to this monster together, have the cutscene play simultaneously and then fight it together? Because unless we are doing something wrong, it seems we can't and it's a damn shame.

Am i supposed to defeat this battle on my own, my friend too and if we want to fight this monster together we post a quest for that particular monster and that's it? Surely that can't be it. Right?

You can't. Both need to unlock the fight (as in begin fighting it) before your friend can join, or you join them. It's the most rataded system that exists in a coop game, one that was HEAVILY criticized in MH World, a game from almost a decade ago, and guess what? They didn't change anything. Capgods btw.

Shoot a flare or whatever it is after attacking the monster. I think attacking it starts the quest properly, so you can invite. I never did it but my friend did.

Ok,I see. So basically I watch or skip the cutscene. My friend does too. If I then shoot a flare, my friend who is in the middle of that fight can join me right then and there? But how? I thought you can only join quests via the lady with glasses?

Its a mess, dont even botter

Not bother with the story or just at all with co-op? Because surely some fun can be had with optional hunting quests?

I don't even think they need to start it, you just shoot your thing and they get a notification to join.
I played before my friend, much higher level, and they invited me while I was sitting at camp.
It's a fucking stupid system.

No im pretty sure this is wrong. I just asked my son how we did it 2 weeks ago. I joined his lobby, he gets the quest from quest giver and then i look for the quest and join it.

Yeah, it's unbelievable they stuck with it. It does seem my friend needs to trigger the cutscene too, otherwise he gets an error that he can't play the part where I am at yet. We'll try it next time.

Iirc he's part of my followers in the game, also a friend and also in the link party. So you'd think he would get the notification. Man what a hassle.

It's the most retarded system I have ever used, the first 2 times me and my friend tried it we quit.

As far as i remember, you can't do that. If your son has already fought the monster, and you want to invite him into your game, you need to see the monster when it allows you to fight it, and fire an sos flare. You can't just send an invite as soon as the lobby was created like in a normal game.

This isn't even the worst part. The fact that they introduced this in the early 2018 with World, and kept the same shit until the early 2025 when Wilds launch is just insaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaane. Who works at the fucking company? What's going on lmao.

I am glad I solo most shit. I wouldn't have played MP if it wasn't for my friend.
I don't even know if I finished the story, it kinda just ended.
Edit: I am HR 82, 96 hours playtime. Jesus that's more than I thought.

Tbh most hunts ll be fast doing solo, Coop is a pain in the ass to set If you are playing with friends, playing with randoms its more easy but 99% of the time It ll increase your hunting time.

It's is needlessly complex and has no reason to be as bad as it is. It should be as easy as inviting your friends to your party and starting the quest together but no. It's been a while since I played and forgot the hoops you have to jump through to play together.

The worst multiplayer co-op system ever implemented. They fixed that shit in Rise but somehow managed to revert it back and made it worse than World system.

They kept the insanely stupid system from world?

Michael Jordan Lol GIF

This shit is why games like Destiny is still popular. At least you and a friend can play through it together for the most part.

Stupid barriers to fun hurt sales, Capcom.

Monster hunter isn't even on the docket anymore for us as a group after the shit-show that world was.

Good co-op games don't have absurd barriers to play. The fact that this has the same system as world, is just asinine.
