This is actually an indie film with many parties around the world as investors. It's Emmerich's new business model.

Also love how they are using some ancient alien theory in here, like the hollow moon/moon is a space ship theory. For anyone that doesnt follow this stuff, many people, including some scientists over the years, think the moon is hollow, or is an alien structure.
There are nemerous things that have brought people to think this. One being that all the craters or the moon, big or small, catastrophic impacts or small impacts, all have a very similar depth in their craters, almost as if the surface of the moon isnt very deep and some metalic sphere must be stopping craters going deeper.
Another problem was when the Apollo astronauts sent the lander to crash into the moon to see what happens, the moon 'rung' like a bell for over an hour.
And also there are loads of ancient mythology from ancient peoples of the world that talk about the moon not being there in the past, and it was brought to the Earth by 'the Gods'.
There are other stuff too if you research it..

Where “Moonfall” finally goes remains behind spoiler walls, but Emmerich is trying to add some Kubrickian touches to what’s essentially a rehash of “Independence Day.” It’s all stuffed with harebrained writing and oddly lifeless performances (Berry refuses to react to anything), but Emmerich remains Emmerich, offering scenes of mass destruction and tight spaceship maneuvering. The director makes room for audience moments, but he doesn’t earn them with this big-budget distraction, which remains unadventurous when it comes to fresh ideas, keeping things familiar and simplistic until the climax, when things suddenly explode into deep sci-fi (setting things up for a sequel). All the ingredients are there for something wildly absurd yet agreeably screwball, but “Moonfall” doesn’t have the energy to deliver anything but inept scenes of heroism and a growing sense of seriousness while presenting pure ridiculousness.

Haven’t seen Midway. Rewatched Stargate last night as I had fond memories of it from my childhood. It’s pretty damn bad.
I expect Moonfall to be on the same level as The Day After Tomorrow, which to me is bad but watchable bad. Full disclosure I love disaster flicks.
