More Castlevania for GBA

I can't find previews for this anywhere - if konami announced this officially wouldn't game sites know? Then again why would EB has it listed if it weren't coming out.

I just hope Aria of Sorrow is one of those games.

Can't you still get the unlockable in DoS anyway, it's just a bitch to get? I've been putting off playing DS until I can play Aria. So fucking hyped here.

Yay Aria of Sorrow. Boo fucking hiss to fucking Harmony of Dissapointment. Talk about pairing polar opposites.

:lol

Well almost everybody's going to buy it for Aria most likely, so anything else is icing on the cake. Circle of the Moon is readily available. It would've been nice to have maybe another CV game, but they probably didn't want to match up a GBA game with a NES/SNES game I suppose. I didn't think Harmony was THAT bad.

Hey, Aria of Sorrow rocks entire city blocks. It's worth paying twice that for Aria alone, so I think it's great it's getting a reprint (finally!). It's just that my god, Harmony of CRAPULENCE is so bad (for the formula) that it makes me sick.

Aria is Brill.

Harmony is not.

Yeah, my local Gamestops and EBs have enough Circle of the Moons for $14.99-$16.99 each, with box and instructions. I'm glad it's AoS and HoD.

What is so bad about it? Every review house loved it when it came out and it is only looked upon negatively when viewed through the lens of the fantastic Aria of Sorrow.

Why people hating?
It's the Jak II syndrome.

For the record, I didn't love it. I only gave it that rating because, as I said in the review it isn't a bad game. However, it's a terrible Castlevania and made me lose faith in the Metroidvania formula entirely. Until, of course redemption.

It's the rare ring, and you get it later on in the game... didn't really make much of a difference to have it initially, imo.

Time for me to sell Aria and Harmony before they plummet.

Well, this is a bit of a disappointment only becuase I just bought both for like $20 each. Doesn't matter though since both were well worth the price.

Konami should have included CotM instead of HoD... but I'm happy for the AoS reprint so I wont complain... :)

Already got cirlce of the moon, and see it around in stores fairly often.

Never see either of the other two, and want both, despite the crappy sound in harmony. (and inexplicably low-colour sprites).

Hm

Do I want to sell my Aria of Sorrow and buy that or keep it and buy the seperate version of Harmony of Disonnance

Since Aria and Harmony are both nearly impossible to find.....

I agree with those that say Harmony is getting an unfair rep. When it came out it was a well reviewed game, by compairson to Aria it looks less than stellar which is only naturla considering that both game were developed side by side, and Aria benefitted from a longer development cycle which allowed for the tweaking of the sound engine. Grpahically the games are one a par.

I think I may be the only one who doesn't like the soul system...

The soul system is annoying sometimes, but I think it holds its own in comparison to SOTN's chaotic jumble of a "system".

That's the problem with people who review gameboy advance games. I feel people inflate the scores with every big name release that comes out and a lot of people buy into that crap. *I* personally never said HoD was good and always stated it was horrible . But the ridiculous inflating of bad/mediocre gba games has got to stop. The unanimous praise made me get HoD and Tactics Ogre: Knight of Lodis. Awful awful games.

Hey... what was wrong with Tactics Ogre?

At the very least, it was thirty times better than Final Fantasy Tactics Advance!

(EDIT: For some odd reason, I had typed "various" instead of "very".)

TO GBA is brick dumb. Way worse than FFTA... it's more like Shining Force level dumb. Other than that though, it looks nice, sounds great and I liked the storyline.

Hmm. That about sums it up. Glad I'm not the only one who can see its flaws.

Eh. You had subweapons, relics, equipment that actually made sense, and magic spells. I don't think that's a mess, personally.

I have a lot of fun with the soul system, but I'd like to see a, you know, gameplay-based way to cast spells in the future. What we know of the next game suggests that it will be another soul game though. Can't say I won't eagerly buy it, but, you know.

Here's how I'd rank the SotN-and-after Metroidvania games' ability systems:
1) SotN - most sensible and most satisfying, gameplay-wise.
2) AoS - The souls were really cool the first time around
3) CotM - Getting the cards was rewarding, but figuring out how to use them moreso.
4) DoS - Souls getting a little old, but they still rock. Some really cool new ones, as well.
5) HoD - This was the killer flaw of the game for me. The "spellbook" system was kludgy, boring, and really unsatisfying.

Oh, on-topic: I was really hoping for a Castlevania II/III pack. Dammit.

It would be funny if people Ebay'ed their GBA Castlevania games and it turned out to be just ports of the old GB black and white games except with color...

Hilarious but true: I check my local Gamestop/EB almost daily for Aria and Harmony along with a couple other games, have been either in-store or online for about 6 months now, never seen it. Then I happen to be in Gamestop today, they had TWO copies of Harmony and Aria used in. Guess word got out pretty fast. :lol

Heh, I called it. HoD and AoS double pack. As many have said before me, the pack is worth it for AoS alone. HoD is a bit of a shame when you put it up against CotM and AoS. I still have the original copies complete of the GBA Castlevania games, but I will pick this up as well.

A different compilation would have been better though.

If you still own the originals, why buy this compilation? Is that really the best use of your money?

AoS is awesome, but you couldn't pay me to go back to HoD. I never even finished it. The level design just pissed me off so much.

HoD was rather horrific.

Best use of my money? Probably not, but it hasn't stopped me in the past. I wouldn't be surprised if the game was priced lower than $29.99. That's probably a placeholder.

HoD sucks. If anyone owns AoS and is thinking about selling it and picking this up (or just picking this up period) I would suggest skipping it.

Please let one of them be Castlevania IV Please let one of them be Castlevania IV Please let one of them be Castlevania IV Please let one of them be Castlevania IV

edit:...D'oh!

Outside of the music, what was wrong with HoD? I liked it better than Aria -- it was quite a bit bigger, it had a WHIP, the special effects were better, and the boss fights were much more interesting (albeit ridiculously easy). I liked the spellbook system better than Aria souls.

I don't, because it doesn't encourage the development of deeper play technique, and plus in the case of AoS (as opposed to SotN and DoS), the animation sucks.

Lay off the HoD hate, people. CotM should get all the hate since IGA had no part of it, was developed by KCE Nagoya, had crap character animations, and had castle level designs that Dracula himself would bulldoze over.

CotM = GENERIC BROWNIE MIX.

Harmony of Dissonance had interiors that approached Symphony of the Night, had BRIGHT and COLORFUL levels, a boost in character/enemy animations, and was just more fun. It had the IGA touch.

HoD = BETTY CROCKER BROWNIE MIX.

Aria of Sorrow was more refined to SotN levels: castle-structure, amalgam of weapons/souls, and better music. BUT, some level graphics were BLAND (yeah, all I see is brown and a ceiling...whoopee), boring, and just dark. But since the gameplay was king, those trade-offs are understandable. But still.....

AoS = GHIRARDELLI BROWNIE MIX.

Mmmm....I'm getting the brownie munchies. I go get some... ^_^

Yes, stop the HOD hate. It's a fine game. Fine game. What's so bad about the music? It sounds fine to me. Sure, the fidelity isnt there, but some of the compositions are great.

I dont think Ive heard a better composition than Juste's theme out of the GBA castles. Serious.

Games got is problems. Doesnt have the love and care that Aria, Sotn, or DoS got, but it was still worth the money.

I was SO HAPPY to play HOD after the horrible Cotm.

To be honest, I can't remember the difference between Circle and Harmony. I've got all 3 GBA Castlevania games, too.
