More E3 hints: something big coming for DS, and other stuff

e3newsletter107uy.gif

Just got this from the Nintendo e-newsletter. Confirmation that Revolution will be there, since I know the rumor was going around it wouldn't be.

"first word" isn't exactly the same thing as actually being there, but it is nice to know that they'll be talking about it.

They didn't say what they usually say. They didn't say "code-named" Revolution.

I'm thinking even more now thats going to be the final name.

To me "first word" is just said 'cos nintendo.com may not know exactly how much will be said/shown. Plus Nintendo could talk a whole lot about Revolution, but the "Nintendo PR" from nintendo.com will probably be watered down so they don't kill current GCN sales or cause too much of a stir in next-generation interest (believe me, I'm sure Nintendo get's sick of all the posts, e-mails, letters, phone calls about their new systems). If it really was JUST a "first word" then Nintendo has already said the first word before last E3 and since then it's been known that it'll have new technolgies to gaming, new ways to interact with games, it's IBM CPU is called "Broadway", it's ATi GPU is called "Hollywood", it's BC with GCN & that it's all wireless. So it's gotta be something beyond that, features, drive/format, specs, power, shell design, support, online capabilities, controller interface, games, plans, price, launch, bla bla bla...alot of which (minus some features, price, games & controller interface) should be revealed next week!

Also, that e-mail says: "news about Nintendo handhelds -- Nintendo DS and GameBoy Advance" which could be a nod that there is a new GBA revision coming maybe?

I certainly hope so... I really like the sound of the word "Revolution". Reminds me of the Golden Saint Aries: "Stardust Revolution".

Just a comment to anyone who'd disagree and claim that these leaks are good for MS.

I disagree. The reason M$ did OurColony was so that a little portion of the truth would come out in time for E3--people would see a glimpse of a bit of the box from a flattering, sexy angle.

Trust me, MS was not a fan when fucking ugly versions of the controller were leaked or when some guy took a fuzzy ass picture of the box from a less-than-stellar angle. It took the wind out of their hype sales completely with at least a few of us here. I'm sure the system will end up looking fine, with a good finish and all that, but from the leaked stuff that ended up looking cool, it really just looked "meh".

Marketing is all about controlling perception, and it's clear that MS has failed at that, and you can't just assume that people talking about it is a good thing.

I'm sure they're glad that the games are still safe, so far (that we aren't seeing fuzzy vids of PD0 to be underwhelmed by). I'm so bummed that the GAMES are the only thing left to get me excited come E3.

Fucking disappointment.

Coincidence?

...Yes, most likely.

For even more conspiracy fun, you could vaguely equate "Stardust" to "Starcube."

Judge Dredd DS? That's not a big annoucement.

I am hoping for a game that doesn't look shitty in 3D. Hmm let's see. Punch Out DS would rock!

smash brothers is one of those rare games that calls for a new genre heading. i suggest "fanservice delivery mechanism." doa wankyball is a distant cousin.

Could be, but I bet it's more likely they're referring to games specifically in the newsletter.

I hate Smash Bros. beyond belief, but actually like DOA Extreme Beach Volleyball.

Still, it's sure to piss off Nintendo fans far more than DoA fans, so I'm totally in favor of classifying them as the same genre.

Smash Bros. and DoA XBV: games where you push buttons and your favorite characters do things!

I suggest classifying them as "Fanboy Porn," and adding Super Robot Wars and Namco vs. Capcom to the genre.

You'll be saying Zelda isn't an RPG next...

Zelda is an adventure game. :)

I might grant you "action RPG," but only if you admit Smash Bros. is a terrible, terrible...thing.

I nominate your PRECIOUS FFX-2, whore.

Sure, fine by me! Kingdom Hearts can be fanboy porn too. Like I said, I like some games in this genre - I fully expect Namco vs. Capcom to rock ass, for example.

But calling Smash Bros. a "fighter" glosses over the first through fifty-third reasons for its existence, which is OMG LINK OMG.

I would be satiesfied to see more about Castlevania DS. Hopefulyl the game is shaping up well.

It's a party game OMG!

I agree, actually.

Doesn't change the fact that we had hours of fanboy (and girl!) fun with it over the years!

Any party where you're playing Smash Bros. is a pretty lame one!

nonono drinking with friends and playing these kind of games are great fun. Even Mario Golf was fun when we where playing drunk. (the game sucks when you're sober)

Ah. Nice to see all the anti-Smashies coming out and identifying themselves.

They'll be the first ones up against the wa--

Wait. Never mind.

Long live independent game developers, especially the ones that make games for the mighty PS2 and (to a lesser extent) the Xbox!

(Doo doo doo...)

drohne is my least favourite of the drinky wannabes. Theres just no..... I dunno.... I can't imagine a high pitched "ZING" in my head after the post and I never wanna go "OH, THAT CRAZY DROHNE :lol"

:\

I hope it's smash bros...

thanks for sharing, catfish. i'd love to tell you about the sound effects you generate in my head. but first i'd have to learn to spell them. and then i'd have to learn to tell you apart from all the other nintendo fans. neither task seems trivial.

Has there been advertising for this MTV special? If so where? Has it been in magazines? Has it been on other channels besides MTV? Poster boards? Hell do people still WATCH MTV these days?
