Terrence Malick: YES!

Colin Farrell: God damn it.

Who am I kidding: the primary attraction is going to be lots of long, lovingly photographed shots of fields of grass and/or wheat, or of animals, so the lead actor doesn't matter that much.

EDIT: after looking at IMDB, I see the cast also has Christian Bale, so there's hope.

Yeah, I was disappointed by the lack of Bale in the teaser. I hope that isn't an indication that his character is real minor.

The film sure looks pretty though. I'll be seeing it if only for that.

Malick is a god. I didn't even know he was working on this. The trailer doesn't do Malick's style any justice though.

yea. it's not really that bad of a trailer, but it hinders his style a lot. hopefully this movie doesn't suffer the same backlash as thin red line with people expect some low-brow action movie.

I love the director, my top three are all of his films but this looks trash.

Looks like Thin Red Line Redux plus The Last Samurai.

Some of the shots are exactly the same as Thin Red Line.

I pray I am wrong.

I agree. Hopefully the writing sets itself apart from the rest of the pack. Shots of the hawk, swamp and grass are vintage Malick.

this is silly. directors like malick don't make mistakes, honestly. it's a bad trailer, but it doesn't look like last samurai at all, and it's edited to look like thin red line, the actual compositions of the shots aren't the same.

What happened to Colin Farell?

I mean, I remember back in oh, 2002, when he was in Minority Report, he was cool.

But slowly...he just became more annoying, and more annoying...

and now he's almost a dealbreaker for some of these films.

You guys are fucking nuts. This is one of the best trailers I have ever seen and Malick is a genius of the medium.

Malick got a good performance out of Richard Gere for Days of Heaven; maybe he can get a good performance out of Colin Farrell for this one. I want to believe.

directors like malick don't make mistakes.

But sometimes they have to pick big-name actors of the moment to get a movie made. I'm afraid that this film is going to be like watching Kubrick's Barry Lyndon: sure the movie's great, but you can't deny that Ryan O'Neal (the Colin Farrell of 1975) drags down every scene he's in.

Judging from the Thin Red Line, Mallick has a hard time keeping a story focused and the characters true to themselves. Some of his shots are excellent but he is isn't bullet proof.

Days of Heaven is a brilliant movie, but it's gotten Malick a cult status that's arguably greater than he deserves because of its cinematography and the disputes over who actually contributed more to the film's look. Malick's "brilliant recluse" shtick contributes to this, too.

The Thin Red Line always seems cut to hell to me whenever I watch it. Even at 150+ minutes it seems too short--the editing of the last 30-40 minutes is choppy as hell. I'd love to see a proper four-hour cut of that movie--I'm sure the footage exists.

Shit, I thought Malick was done with movies after the Thin Red Line. It's too bad Farrel is in it, but sometimes the right director can a good performance out of any turd.

Also, it is true that Malick's original final cut was six hours. I would love to see it myself on home video, but I just don't know if TTRL garners enough interest to inspire Fox to do something like that.
