More Tales names trademarked

I wonder if they actually have plans for games to use each of those names yet, or if they just like to pull 'land grabs' to secure likely-sounding titles ahead of time, then develop them at their leisure once they're sitting on the trademarks?

Tales of the Abyss reminds me of Ultima Underworld for some reason. Give us a kickass dungeon crawler and I'm so there!

I quite like the titles. It sure beats Tales I, Tales II, etc...
This is a route Final Fantasy may well have to go down some day. I can't see Square using the roman numerals much longer.

Yeah, no kidding. They had something like 4-5 Tales games last generation, and about 50 this gen.
thank god namco only has the sense to put the good ones out here! (well, except phantasia / destiny. they fucked up in that regard.) i'm not getting sick of the series at all. LEGENDIA COME TO ME

Well ToS was the first Tales game I played (since it was a western release), I am not sick of the series at all. I shamefully didn't play ToP for snes...

Am I the only one seeing the relation between the word "Harmonia" and "Symphonia"?

Maybe they could be related... I mean, Phantasia is related to Symphonia and both words come from the music world... (Fantasia and Symphony)... and now Harmonia that comes from Harmony... maybe I'm seeing to much into things? =P

Now that Tales of the Abyss was officially announced today, does this mean we can look forward to a Harmonia or Mirage announcement in the near future? Hmm...

I certainly hope so (at least to Harmonia if is related to Symphonia)... I'm waiting for the $99 price of the PS2 just to play Legendia (and now Abyss) :) .

hehehe, I think I agree at this point :\

I think if they're going to make this many Tales games, they should streamline the IPs per audience. One for 360, one for PS3, one for Rev. And then continue those respective series forward. This way each console gets a unique Tales series without it feeling like milking on one specific platform.

Of course, that might just lead to bitter fanboy wars about which Tales is best.

I know Tales of Destiny 2 did surprisingly well in Japan, and the same for Tales of Symphonia in the US...but did anyone really buy the other games. I'm just not seeing a huge demand for all of these Tales games. It doesn't really bother me though, I just won't purchase the ones that end up being garbage.

Speaking of which, how about releasing the PS2 Tales of Destiny 2 in North America?

There isn't, but it doesn't stop them from imagining they had one.

And I was actually talking about which game was best of course, not what system had the best one ;p.

ToR despite sucking for the most part did like 600k+ and it got that even launching against MGS3. And that's like 6-10x more than any other rpg on the market sells...so yeah it's smart for Namco to keep pushing them out as it's easy money. But if the quality goes downhill then it's not really good for the consumer.

Wow, color me surprised. So these games actually sell in Japan, that's good to know. I'm wondering how many of these will come over to North America.

When I saw the topic title, I was thinking more along the lines of "Tales of Kutaragia" or "Tales of Sonyexclusivia"

hehe I thought when the fuck did I make this thread :)

Has there been any word on why Symphonia for PS2 hasn't made it (and, apparently, won't be making it) to the US?

It was a deal made by Nintendo for the exclusive rights to the game in the US.

Actually, it shipped 550k and Namco was expecting 800k sold. The only Tales game to make targets in Japan this gen was Destiny II (it passed targets by 50k). Symphonia GC was expected to do 500k and managed 350k (though with western sales, it's past a million). I bet Legendia and Abyss have trouble passing 500k honestly, it's really just too much too fast.

But where do people get these target numbers in the first place? Has anyone been able to actually confirm any of them?

Nope, last Famitsu (six-month report?) reported sales of 595k (iirc), so shipped units should be near 600k.
Symphonia GC sold less than PS2 though....it is the best selling tales with western ones (like 1.1 or 1.2m worldwide).

Anyway, how many namco titles reach their expectations? ^^u!!! They suck at predicting sales :/

I only pray that Legendia sells good in USA so we get them all from now on :)

PD: jarrod, it was famitsu Q1-Q2 report
http://game-science.com/news/001115.html
39 PS2 Tales of Rebirth Namco 151,526 (595,468)

I think the udders are feeling sore and running dry =|.

The udders are so sore that the farmers are adding chocolate powder, turning the normal milk into chocolate milk, to hide the little bit of blood that comes in the milk!

I do so hope someone was drinking chocolate milk while reading this reply. Isn't it sick how logical what I said was? I mean in the grand scheme of chocolate milk creation? YUuum

o.o I don't know what Namco was expecting without promotion, but those figures are pretty decent, when I heard that ToDII bombed I supposed it sold like 10k....
