Morgan Freeman says race doesn't play a part in income distribution

Doesn't median income via race say differently? I wonder how he came to that conclusion. Still love him as an actor though.

He made it.

Why can't you?

Because you not working hard enough for it like he did.

Pick up those bootstraps black people

- Every rich black celebrity ever

I saw an interview in which he said racism would be solved if people stopped talking about race.

Sounds like the view of a rich black man.

...when you're Morgan Freeman.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think he's making bank from his Hollywood career.

In relation to his colleagues I mean.

Yeah this is like his Black History Month thing too.

It's like, you're not wrong, Morgan Freeman, you're just talking about the world that should be instead of the world that is. We'll get there eventually, but not this way.

Agreed

Thought this was Martin Freeman until I watched the video.

What he said is true. Set a goal and go for it. That's how you can be successful.

It's much easier said than done however...

I don't know if it's funny or sad that so many successful people think they're successful because they worked harder than everyone else

I think you'll find that person is David Attenborough. I'm a nature documentary hipster though.

Get that foreign crap out of here. The true voice is Oprah, son.

I like Morgan Freeman, but c'mon man. It not only plays in where the money goes, it even determines the opportunities he'd get in Hollywood. You know that the very field that he's in is a rigged lottery. They can only have so many old black men with wise gravely voices. Hell, he's been fucked in the very roles that he's played in. Don't believe me? How many roles can you think of where Morgan Freeman plays a man that is desirable to women? A man with a wife or girlfriend? A man who'd get an on-screen kiss? A role that would land him in some magazine's "most eligible men" list?

That's not his purpose. He's been very subtly typecast, and it shows in all of his roles in film. It HAS however, made him very wealthy as well, so... why the hell would he argue?!

When asked about the No. 1 factor in obtaining their wealth, the millionaires ranked hard work first (23 percent), followed by smart investing (21 percent) and savings (18 percent). Education ranked fourth, at 10 percent, followed by frugality and then inheritance. Only 1 percent cited luck as the top reason for their wealth.

This dude lived in the south during the 50s and 60s. I'm sure he has seen some shit and this mentality is what's worked for him. Not focusing on race and trying to make people around him do the same thing. He simply has that old school no excuses mentality. Pretty clear he hates talking about this subject.

I think the title of this clip is silly but the guy just wishes people would stop bringing up race so much.

I can't really disagree with him here. I think that's how we should treat people and how the world should be.

Morgan Freeman is so huge because he's non-threatening to white audiences. If he openly said that racism is indemic in American life and that blacks should have a bigger piece of the pie, it's hard to see him getting anymore big roles because he'd be a "militant" that would scare whites away from his movies. He's smarter than that.

So he's selling out to the white man cause he doesn't choose to be an activist or represent anyone but himself?

I disagree

I think the ideal should be recognizing, respecting and celebrating differences. Not ignoring them until they're not a problem.

Because like it or not being "black" is an existing identity within our society. It's not just going to go away if we pretend it isn't

The whole "i don't see color" is such a lazy(and falicious) approach to equality

Being "militant" and contributing to the problem aren't the only two choices.

If he didn't really believe this stuff he wouldn't say it. That's how plenty of black professionals conduct themselves even outside of entertainment. I know I'm not about to get into heated racism debates with my employer.

I think he'd probably feel differently if he spent a bit of time formulating an opinion on it rather than just responding to a question off-the-cuff on live TV.

Or he was just trying to be positive, but probably wasn't thinking about the implications of his comment.

Ernest Hemingway once wrote, "The world is a fine place and worth fighting for." I agree with the second part.

This is why white people love him so much I guess

Because all white people are racists, am I right?

It is really weird how celebrities seem to be out of touch with income-related social issues happening in their own countries but yet being really aware and focused on poverty issues in underdeveloped countries.
