Digital Eclipse's next game collection is Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, a bundle of classic fighting games that includes some of the series' oldest entries with new features.

The company behind other retro video game remasters announced that it has turned its sights to Mortal Kombat during today's June 2025 PlayStation State of Play showcase. Included in its announcement was a reveal trailer, promising to bring NetherRealm's Mortal Kombat 1, Mortal Kombat 2, Mortal Kombat 3, Mortal Kombat 3: Ultimate, Mortal Kombat 4, and more arcade, console, and Game Boy entries to PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S later this year.

Mortal kombat is a fighting game genre achievement a lot better than tekken and street fighter and a lot better than smash bros and a lot better much better than soul calibur don't comment or at me you know it's true mortal kombat for life!

I would have preferred proper ports of just the arcade titles with a bunch of modern QOL improvements, over a big emulated collection, the console versions are maybe going to be interesting for a minute but from what I remember of them, none held a candle to the arcade versions so it's a bit of a waste.

They already sold that though, the Mortal Kombat Kollection, it was on 360/PS3/PC and is still playable on Xbox via BC.

Realistically how many games could be the "And more"? I've only ever stuck to a few of the Mainline versions
You never know with Digital Eclipse. Already shown Gameboy games. Might even be an unreleased prototype in there or even a remake if its anything like previous stuff they've done like Atari or Karateka.

This is pretty much worth it for UMK3 online alone.

But I am really hyped for MK4.

This game was pretty much thrown in the trash after the Dreamcast release. And I love it. I played it a ton in the arcade, it has incredibly responsive gameplay and its just very stupid fun though completely broken (they even added an auto combo breaker). I can't wait to play this one online. I actually hope it isn't Gold. I think the coin op was better.

And, vanilla MK3. I mean this IS kind of novel. That game was rendered obsolete by UMK3. But there are ofcourse notable differences between the 2.

I do have the trilogy on PS3, but it was kind of shitty tbh. And UMK3 on 360 had a mediocre netcode.

Virtually anyone with any experience in competitive fighting games disagrees with you, these games have always been style over substance.

And I say that as someone who learned how to brute force brutalities before they were published in guides

I fixed your comment. because this way it is accurate. as you might have noticed, I added a list of every fighting game MK is better than.

almost any MUGEN Meme game is better than MK... fucking MUGEN MK fan games are better than MK :pie_roffles:

How is it Komplete without Trilogy?

4 almost took the series out but I loved that game 😂
Lol picking up random objects off the floor and chucking them was always hilarious. Also love the wanna be foreign language gibberish the characters were screaming out... though I'm not sure it was supposed to be funny

Adding in the console games is cool, considering how different and sometimes horrible (GB Mortal Kombat 1) they often were.

I agree. It's excellent that several of the console/portable versions are included.

IGN's article lists the following games confirmed "so far":

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection - All the Games Confirmed So Far
Mortal Kombat – 1992: Arcade, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, Game Gear
Mortal Kombat II -1993: Arcade, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, 32X
Mortal Kombat 3 – 1995: Arcade, SNES, Genesis
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 – 1995: Arcade, SNES
Mortal Kombat 4 – 1997: Arcade
Mortal Kombat Advance – 2001: Game Boy Advance
Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance – 2002: Game Boy Advance
Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition – 2003: Game Boy Advance

I'd like to see some of the PlayStation, Saturn, and Nintendo 64 games in the package.

Also, for the people here that are clamoring for Mortal Kombat Trilogy, it would not surprise me if this was included as an extra (possibly unlockable) game.

No PSX versions is a bummer. The SNES version of UMK3 was garbage iirc. Not Street Fighter Alpha 2 bad but the SNES hardware was tapping out by then.

If I recall correctly, the SNES/Genesis versions of UMK3 came out really late, after the PS1/N64 versions of Mortal Kombat Trilogy were released... and had some of the MKT features (such as Brutalities) integrated into the game. I think most MK fans at the time had PS1/Saturn/N64 by this time, and didn't pay much attention to late ports on previous generation systems. It was still a nice gesture for Midway to make the games for those older systems, anyway.

I'm actually insanely pumped for this. I'm definitely getting it on Switch 2.

I hope you can select any/all the games at once when going into matchmaking, like in the Halo MCC. As a casual MK enjoyer, I think I'd have a blast playing random online matches and not even knowing which game I'm about to play.

Here's to hoping the rollback netcode is good!

not all games are confirmed. it could still be on there. but also they would need to have both versions of Trilogy on there, the N64 version and the PS1 version. since they both have their own quirks.

N64 Trilogy has Khameleon and PS1 Trilogy has Chameleon for example. and the N64 version has a special combined version of Sub-Zero, who can do the specials of both Sub-Zeros... which can lead to hilarious combos as the devs forgot to implement checks if you have ground freeze out, which means you can combine ground freeze with the ice clone abd stuff like that :pie_roffles:

But will it really be Arcade perfect?
Software emulation is almost never arcade perfect, but it's not hard to get 99% of the way there. I would assume it'll be perfectly playable, especially with Digital Eclipse at the helm.

I'm a big fan of these game history collections because of all the extras and lesser known versions included.
I am really not. I find lesser versions redundant. I doubt I would even touch the Gameboy trash if I acquired the collection. I would much rather have these resources go to remastering/rebalancing MK3 Ultimate or Trilogy.

Agree to disagree. I don't think they are great to play, not usually, but they are still historical curiosities and preservation has its own value.

It's also not like they would do exactly what you want, if only those versions were left out. You'll still get the arcade originals and that should be fine for most people.

Far more likely that there will be mods to address such balance changes, which would still be controversial to begin with.

MK4 has one of the funniest memes in the franchise

I used to be a big fan of MK 2 and 3 in 90s mostly due to the graphics and violence, which were shocking at the time.

But looking back at those games I feel their gameplay lacked depth and variety.
