Most calming, upbeat game music?

As for games for which their music would be the most relaxing for me, that would be Zelda: Ocarina of time, and Final Fantasy 4. I do not however remember a game for which the whole music was relaxing.

Of course there are a ton of specific tunes, but I do not remember their names most of the time. An obvious one is Donkey Kong Country on SNES, the infamous water music. :)

NiGHTS - most of the tracks. Especially: Ride the Snow Train, Soft Museum, Twin Seeds( the last level with the both kids?)

Chrono Cross - The "Home" and "Another" songs like Home/Another Gardov, Aruni, so on.

Panzer Dragoon Orta - Ivas theme.
Panzer Dragoon Saga - Camp

FFX2 - Lightwaves of Memories or whatever its called. It plays during the menu I think.

The original Klonoa (Door to Phantomile) for psx has a soundtrack packed with soothing-slash-upbeat tunes.

Other, more obvious choices are Minna No Golf/Hot Shots Golf (all of them) and Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour. And, of course, every single hour tune from Animal Crossing.

I'm already thinking of Night's first level stage and Bubbleman from Megaman, thanks. :)

HGS1? This has got to be some of the cheesiest anime music I ever heard in my life.

Going by your avatar, I'm guessing you know more about anime than I do. I have no idea if HSG music qualifies as "anime" music, but it's certainly relaxing, which I believe is what you were asking for when you said "I do not however remember a game for which the whole music was relaxing."

I don't remember Final Fantasy 4 being the slightest bit relaxing, though. It has been years since I last played it, but I remember all kinds of bombastic battle themes and war marches more than anything else.

Well, from what I recall from all Hot Shots Golf games, even if I like anime, the music just hit on my nerves, but I understand your point of view. :)

About FF4, I was more talking about specific themes, like the one that's playing (often when Cecil is tormented and alone, example when he awakes alone in the desert) in some dramatic situations, when your walk on the overworld, sail, and use the airship. That is what I meant about quiet, relaxing music.

I agree with RiZ III about the CC choices, and there are more examples.
I also agree with bobbyconover, but mostly based on the music in Hot Shots Golf 3...it's relaxing, very suitable golf music. :)

I would also like to mention a few Ridge Racer Type 4 tracks, like Silhouette Dance and Lucid Rhythms.

Also, the intro song for the first Wild Arms...and a few songs in-game. :)

Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the future. Best overall soundtrack this gen.
Klonoa 2. Not all of it is great, but when it is, it,s the best.

Isn't the term "calming, upbeat" pretty much an oxymoron?

Hm, why can't an upbeat song be calming? There are various degrees of upbeat at that. Now if it was about "calm, upbeat" I would perhaps agree with your point.

in before Donkey Kong Country underwa--SHIT! I'M TOO LATE!

I HATE THAT SONG! THAT SONG IS NO GOOD! EVERYONE STOP SAYING THAT NO GOOD SONG IS GOOD; IT'S NOT!

Also, FFIV's music is the opposite of calm and soothing. It is epic and

The underwater theme is very basic New Age(Go to your local CD outlet(Like, Wal-Mart) and search for a CD called "Pure Moods". Very similar.) I like it. Actually, the whole DKC soundtrack is great. Dave Wise did a teriffic job with it.

I live about 6,000 miles from the nearest Wal-Mart! And Pure Moods is an abomination in the eyes of God and man!

As Old Man Murray once said about religion: "When [people] inevitably discover that faith has a purely utilitarian value as a way of mitigating the mounting existential dread that arises from simply being alive, they generally resort to creating some kind of half-assed religion substitute. This leads to spiritual philosophies that embarrass everybody, like aromatherapy and everything Jewel believes."

New Age music is like listening to Jewel sing about aromatherapy!

DONKEY KONG COUNTRY UNDERWATER MUSIC IS NO GOOD!

I just meant upbeat in a personal sense, like "music that makes you feel warm, feel better", but I also put calming there because some people tend to recommend Metal-like tunes, which may even in some way fit that definition, but that is not what I was wondering about.

Something in that sense would be "Those Who Fight Further" from Final Fantasy 7, when you fight Shinra's President's song. That's a metal song, that's upbeat, it makes you feel better (I think it kicks ass), but that's not relaxing. But something like the main theme, it fits the bill. I just wanted more accurate answers as to what I was looking for.

DKC2- Bramble Scramble
Zelda: OoT: Zora's Domain
Phantasy Star Online: The forest theme
Secret of Evermore: Profile selection screen

Secret of Mana
NiGHTS

Speaking of Nights, Sega need to introduce the self-remixing algorithem from the game and implement it in all their titles (generic redbook audio titles aside).

JackFrost, take a pill. I really enjoyed that MP3 and I'm sure many others will too. Does anybody know which orchestra performed it? It is live, right?

It's from Orchestral Game Concert 5 (yes it's live, there's clapping at the end). If you want the full CD (including the rest of this track, which has removed the DK Jungle theme), you have to pay about $200 on ebay since the CD hasn't been printed since the mid 90s. Or you can just pirate it.

Let me add:

Twilight Street (Shadow Hearts II)
God's Young Sage (Orchestral Game Concert 3)
Hubris: Reprise (Soul Calibur II)
Zone System (Sim City 4)
Window Washer's Dream (Sim City 3000)

I actually have a full CD of tracks just like this.
