Most impressive realtime game video seen so far.

PGR3. Also I am a sucker for the last scene in Capcom's zombie trailer. :P

(PS3's demos were impressive across the board but I'll wait until next year before I start making any serious judgments)

i'd have to go with gears of war.. although ut2k7 looked awesome too (need in high res!), gears had a bit more going on.

Are any of them actually realtime?
Not that I think they can't be done on the next gen hardware, but, I really can't tell what is and what isn't realtime.
Seriously, I can't wait to see someone playing these games.

It looks like this prerendered vs. realtime thing is going to be a bigger issue that I thought. How irritating.

I don't think you can really make fair judgements, considering everyone seems to have their own definition of whether this or that was real time, rendered, FMV, CG, in-game cut-scene, QTE Event, etc., so fuck it, I'm just going to say the Killzone 2 and Motor Storm videos are the most impressive things I've seen so far. Whatever they actually are, they get my vote.

gears of war is the only 'definately real time' thing shown so far, so i'd have to go with that, until we find out about the others...pgr3 and killzone 2, specifically

If that is real time than I will completely stop looking at or comparing system specs cause it doesn't matter. If each system can get a game looking that good than who cares about specs? Here's hoping it's real time.

Deliberately loaded question. And pointless really. You're insinuating the PS3 amazing stuff is pre-rendered and that the X360 stuff is pukka realtime game play.

The truth is that there are many shades of grey, and surely both Sony and MS are transgressing, and I'm not convinced one is particularly more so than the other. The point is that this was their chance to show their vision of the next gen.

So Microsoft, for future reference: Motor Storm and KZ: this is what the next gen should look like.

debate over Killzone or anything else is moot when we know that UE3 runs perfectly in real time.

Only took 2 months of work too, while Gears of War is approaching a year of dev time and runs at 20fps :)

Let's wait until we find out a bit more, shall we?

Why limit the doubt to the PS3 games?

What stage is the 360 dev hardware in? How many of the 360 games are realtime? If they're still using Macs, nothing we've seen except PD0 (which was playable) is believable.

It'll be interesting to see what's playable on the show floor.

Not quite sure what you're saying, considering that GoW is running on the UE3.

So, as for actual real-time stuff... I would say UT2K7 on PS3, PGR3 (we'll find out tomorrow if it's real-time for sure), Ghost Recon 3, and Condemned (crazy lighting effects).

This man speaks sense. Listen to him. I guess PD0 was realtime though :lol

Did anyone see that Spiderman / Gran Turismo video? WTF was that!?

The point is...

Tim and crew spent only 2 months working on the PS3 hardware and produced that very impressive realtime demo (which ran at 60 fps, it would seem) while GoW has been in development for much longer and runs very poorly. Both demos used the UE3 engine, but the PS3 demo ran at a much higher framerate and looked a bit more impressive.

Okay, I re-read it and understand it now to be what you explained it as.

I believe there are more factors involved. There isn't a huge disparity in hardware power nor in the difficulty of porting the engine.

Tim Sweeney should have tried getting ZZT running on PS3 :D

(it still is so shocking to me that he went from programming ZZT to Unreal 3 and Gears of War)

LOL!! Why did I know it was an XBot who made this thread.

"realtime" = next-gen XBots' damage control...

anyway, best realtime so far was Killzone 2.

yep, but i dont believe that killzone footage was realtime. If it was then obviously it goes on the top of my list, but as of now, GOW and PGR3 blew me away (knowing that its ingame)

those PS3 videos were not realtime guys.

if they were, PS3 would be shipping this xmas obviously, not 6-9 months later in the USA.

Why don't you stop being a dick and try to counter my points with solid arguments? Puss.

Ha ha, alright alright...

Honestly, and realistically, I think you are right. We haven't witnessed anything running on the actual final hardware and we can't really judge the performance of either platform for that reason.

On a side note, did you use to go by another name around here?

You know it's ingame because MS said so? Then you must also believe Sony's claims that the games they showed can be done in PS3.

I pretty much get this thread is for dejected xbox fanboys to feel better about themselves and their inevitable XBox360 purchase later this year, but you logic as presented is the worst logic ever. PS3 devs HAVE prelim dev kits right now. They DO have the ability to make movies and even game engines. A deve can have something running on a dev kit even if the hardware isn't finalized. you know this right?

Nope. Always been Shogmaster. Even back when I use to live in Cincinnati (over 7 years ago). Every gaming forum I've been Shogmaster.

Because we're getting reports that the demo was CG. If it can be done then yeah im impressed, and easily tops anything atm. And yes, i believe Bizzare Creations word over MS.

After watching the high rez Ghost Recon vid, it doesnt stand up to PGR3 and GOW imo. The animation was superb, but the environment was lacking.

PGR3 and GOW as of now

i don't know why you quoted me & jumped to conclusions... i dont own an xbox. ;)

Prelim kits are irrelevant to this equasion.... those rendered videos are far too polished for "games" that won't ship for 15-19 months (xmas 2006)

get real & apply some common sense at least when being a system zealot.

KZ2, Motor Storm, PGR3. I'm sure I'd add Gears of War if I could find a video anywhere. : / All I've seen is the MTV stuff.

Btw, is the PGR3 video (the AMAZING one) stuttering for anyone else, or is it my PC? I can't get it to run smoothly. Assuming a good framerate, it's incredibly impressive. It looks better than those rendered cityscape/racing screens that used to float around a year or two ago-- the ones people always said they wished next gen would look like. :P The lighting is very realistic.
