Most surreal moment in Iraq to date.

I'm here calmly working on a piece of hardware that is having some problems, my boss asks me if it is ok if we listen to Christmas carols (When did it get to the point that you have to ASK someone that?). The carols are talking about this is the most peaceful time of the year and Jesus is the prince of peace basic Christmas stuff he really has a good mix of Christmas stuff. While we are listing to carols they start shelling into town the tanks are right by my office so the whole place shakes and it's VERY loud. I don't budge and keep tracing a wire from one end to the other. I've jumped harder when I've heard cars hit the brakes now I don't move when I hear cannons. I have now entered Crazyworld, this is too surreal to process. As for Jesus, he ain't here and he ain't coming until he can get some bodyarmor.

Heh, the South Park episode where Santa goes to Iraq was on earlier tonight. They shot his sleigh down with a rocket. :lol

Out of curiousity, how are you going to spend Christmas and New Years?

At work. I had my Christmas before I left. I bought a motorcycle and a plasma screen TV so my Christmas was pretty much covered and I saw my family for Thanksgiving and for me now Thanksgiving is a more special holiday than Christamas. I spent years in retail work so I'm unphased by Holiday cheer. We keep a 24/7 operation so...besides it's not like I'll have much esle to do. I mean I can always hook up the Xbox and play some games or something I dont know yet.

I'll probably call my folks or something like that. it will be good and into the 26 of December for me when I call them for Christmas back West.

I don't know if Play-Asia delivers to Iraq, but you should import Metal Wolf Chaos and play it just to see how the military reacts to it......... ok or maybe not. :D

You gotta way to defend yourself over there?

Just the grace of God. Check the blog I have a story that is pretty funny (after the fact) where I realize I don't have a way to defend myself.

I noticed you use the term Hajii to refer to Iraqi's. Do you know what it means?

If you mean Hajji then (I typed Hajii on purpose it is mispelled much like it is misused) yes I do know what it means but I don't suspect 99% of the people around here do. It's the term that is used for identifing Arab males. The way it is used around here has an inheriently racist overtone. Is it part of the subjugation and humilation that the dominating culture subjects the the dominated culture to? Yes. However it is part of the landscape here and I'm using terms as they are used here.

I know its used as a racist overtone, however I meant to see if you know what it really means. Not any male can be called a Hajii and similiarly females are called Hajia. Its a title a person receives once they have done their pilgrimage to Mecca.

If I'm not mistaken it's an insult. It's used in the way whites in America called all blacks "George," in the past. It implies that they all look alike and thus all have the same name "Hajii." Again the same way whites tend to think all blacks or asians/input your non european race all look alike. The funny thing is I think, is that Hajii isn't an islamic name, it might be but I'm not sure. I believe it's of Hindu origin. The use of Hajii goes back to when the British occupied India back before WW2. Again the Britsh thought they all looked alike and thus decided to referr to them all as Hajiis.

Edit: Ok wrong on the Hindu origin part.

Yeah I realise the Marines are using it the same way that the term 'gook' was used. But it is a muslim term.

I see you got the blog site. I am familar with the basic tenets of the major religions around the world.

Being agnostic I tend to read more about religions just to learn.
