During a private fundraiser earlier this year, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney told a small group of wealthy contributors what he truly thinks of all the voters who support President Barack Obama. He dismissed these Americans as freeloaders who pay no taxes, who don't assume responsibility for their lives, and who think government should take care of them.

You're Santoruming Mittens.

Is Bachmann doing your research now?

At the dinner, Romney often stuck to familiar talking points. But there were moments when he went beyond the familiar campaign lines. Describing his family background, he quipped about his father, "Had he been born of Mexican parents, I'd have a better shot of winning this." Contending that he is a self-made millionaire who earned his own fortune, Romney insisted, "I have inherited nothing." He remarked, "There is a perception, 'Oh, we were born with a silver spoon, he never had to earn anything and so forth.' Frankly, I was born with a silver spoon, which is the greatest gift you can have: which is to get born in America."

Jesus, Mittens. You've inherited nothing? You ignorant prick.

There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what…These are people who pay no income tax.

This whole non-payer bullshit is nonsense. Looking at one component of the tax code doesn't say anything about distributional burden, fiscal illusion, and the like. It's just something that people like Romney use to justify their policies and to sleep at night,

So... 53% of Americans are: "freeloaders who pay no taxes, who don't assume responsibility for their lives, and who think government should take care of them."

Romney gonna fall hard.

GET BORN IN AMERICA

Americans as freeloaders who pay no taxes,

freeloaders who pay no taxes,

who pay no taxes

Says the dude hording his own returns. Sure pal.

Those are standard talking points for his platform. Not shocking at all.
They're not. They're implicit, and everyone knows it's what many in his party believe, but they are not voiced, not publicly.

You should not be able to win an election in any country while dismissing 47-49% of the electorate as freeloaders with no personal responsibility who expect the government to provide for them. It's a deeply disrespectful and deeply unfair characterization of half the people you intend to govern, and it reeks of open contempt.

I bet he wishes it was only 47%. Then he could get elected.

This is news?

Not trying to be dismissive, but I thought it was known that this is how conservatives view Dem voters. I mean, these are almost the exact same talking points the conservatives on GAF use.

Don't worry he just said he was joking about hte Mexican parents part

"It would be helpful to be latino.." ..I know what he means, he would get a lot more of the latino vote if he himself was latino and some will try and twist his words. It still doesn't sit well with me. Had his grandfather and father been latino I doubt he'd even be running for president, let alone for The GOP.

America, seriously, how is this guy even a contender for your presidency?

The disdain and cynicism he has for anyone who isn't just like himself is so incredibly blatant.

Translation: Obama voters are poor minorities, my voters are respectable white people.

This isn't new or shocking. This is the same campaign that stated they intend to be the first campaign to win with nothing but the white vote.

It's ironic that he's stoking the class war in his conversation with these people, while complaining about democrats stoking the class war.

People like to think that the most powerful(potential) man on the planet might have a more nuanced view of the voting populace than your average internet troll. I guess that is too much to ask.

Thats cool that Romney doesn't want us expecting anything to be handed out. But he expects the US people to hand him the job of President.

How has he earned that?

You also shouldn't be able to win an election in any country with the downright insane conviction that markets will rally just at the very idea of you as president. Newsflash, fucker, the world outside your borders already hates you. The Conservative leader of your closest ally thinks you're a joke. 94% of French people want Obama re-elected, and Germany isn't far behind. You'd be cancer to America's and the world's recovery.

I didn't actually hate this guy until he kneejerked the embassy deaths for political gain, but I am going to revel in his now inevitable defeat. Fuck off, Mitt Romney. By this time next year you won't even be invited on talk shows. As it should be. You are a living avatar for the worst American tendencies, and I hope your defeat heralds the collapse of Nixonland.

He hasn't led Obama at any point in the election cycle.

Strategic release? Why release it now when his campaign is all but doomed?

LOL at a rich guy who was born with inherited wealth and status talking about entitlement.

And I thought that Republicans are always talking about lowering taxes. Shouldn't the fact that 47% of the population don't pay taxes be a good thing?
