The mother of a teenager who hanged himself after being subjected to rape allegations has committed suicide in the same way shortly after the anniversary of his death.

The family of Karin Cheshire, 55, said she “could not see a future” without her son, Jay, whose body was found in a park near their home after being accused of rape.

The rape complaint was withdrawn after two weeks but the claims were said to have deeply affected the 17-year-old and his family.

Ms Cheshire had wanted to investigate the police’s handling of the case but became deeply depressed. An inquest into her death found she died on July 18 of the same causes as her son – asphyxiation.

This is so tragic.

That's fucked up. Incredibly and horribly tragic. I really hope they both find peace now. So sad....

EDIT: This article is old... Still sad but.. man.

A friend killed himself due to similar circumstances. Had his name and face plastered everywhere.

Girl withdrew complaint with no consequences after we got the bar to share security footage of her throwing a beer bottle at him after he pushed her off when she tried to sit on his lap. An hour after the alleged rape happened.

Did the news post her lying face everywhere? Did the news mention how innocent he was?

Lost his job
Lost his scholarship
Lost half of his family

Hope she burns in hell of there is one.

Bonus: The next rape victim in town was less likely to report it after this bullshit I'd bet.

I'm guessing op wants to discuss males being falsely accused of rape. Tragic story none the less, I feel for them both.

Please don't create threads about news stories whose sole point is to horrify and appall people. This applies equally to stories about horrible events and to random, petty local tragedies of no greater significance. It makes people's experience of our community worse if they have to tiptoe in between threads about mundane atrocities just to participate in the OT. Real news stories of cultural import are fine, even when they're about something horrific happening, but if the right response to a story is mostly just "wow that's awful" it probably shouldn't get a thread.
