Movies that induce altered states, dreamlike feels

seeing Beetlejuice as a kid... i remember after the movie feeling really strange. i'd seen Pee Wee but this was some bizarre avant garde stuff. i remember the days before goth/Burton was mainstream. this was like, woah, what planet did this come from? exhilarating & strange.

also the French surrealist movie Fantastic Planet. so unreal and with a killer soundtrack. this is one of those movies meant to be watched on mushrooms.

How could I forget Mandy? It was my favorite film of that year

A lot of Lynch stuff comes to mind. Many of my nightmares start off with a normal, mundane situation but with something deeply unsettling about it, and Lynch's work captures that same feeling of "something's not right" for me.

I saw Fear & Loathing mentioned but I'll toss another Terry Gilliam film out there, Brazil.

Insomnia is better known as the Chris Nolan movie, but the 1997 original is worth watching. The original movie emphasizes the main character's (Stellan Skarsgard) sleeplessness with more scenes of daydreams, as well as interesting camera and sound tricks to disorient the audience. Also the ending is arguably better than the remake

Original Black Mirror seasons while sitting up on an herb shuttle. The constant musical drone adds to that.

Legend with Tom Cruise for some reason.

What Dreams May Come is another good one.

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind at one time.

Lots of good mentions in the OP and thread.

While not a movie per say I would like to mention Pink Floyd "The Wall"

If we have to pick a movie then I will suggest Strange Days even if it is about to become outdated this year.
