Big Trouble and Who is Cletus Tout

Honestly, pretty much anything with Tim Allen. I don't care, I think the dude is hilarious.

I think it was awesome up until the last 20 minutes or so.

Signs (M. Night Shyamalan) and Contact

Especially the first, everyone seems bored after they watch it, or they simply hate it

For me it's simply perfect
I love both movies, and everyone I know seems to really like Signs too.

One of the coolest (and perhaps creepiest) flicks ever made. It's pure, unadulterated win.

Yes, my friends use this as exhibit A as to why I'm never allowed to pick a movie for the gang.

i love that movie. Col Ives is one of my favorite villains. i didnt really like the ending all that much though. Most people that seem to hate the movie cannot get past the squeezebox soundtrack :lol

I think "Mystery Men" is fucking hilarious. I quote it all the time.

Plus, Tom Waits.

"The equations were so complex that most of the scientists who worked on it... wound up in an insane asylum!"

"Which is where Casanova's been hangin' for the last twenty years."

Many movies I love here, but I gotta give a shout out for this one.

My favorite part is the Shoveler's riff on the St Crispian's Day speech from Henry V.

That, and the last scene with Captain Amazing.

Or Janeanne Garaffalo correcting Ben Stiller's pronunciation of "cadre."

My personal favorite example:

Shock Treatment

Shock_Treatment_1.JPG

It's the sequel to Rocky Horror, but it abandons all the proto-goth elements and fully embraces the camp and is filled with corny satire. It also loses Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick and Tim Curry. It's hated by most RHPS fans for all that, and it's pretty far over the edge of weird for anybody else.

But I think it's genius and the songs are even better than Rocky's. The social commentary is completely relevant even today-- perhaps moreso in the age of Britney and Amy Winehouse and reality TV.

Remo Williams - sure the cinematography is garbage but it had Joel Gray, Fred Ward, Kate Mulgrew, and the great one himself, Wilford Brimley. Actually that might be the only reason I like it.

I also like "The Langoliers" and "Rose Red" made for TV movies. I don't know why but I always watch when they are on TV.

Of course if someone actually likes those junk movies Sci-Fi channel comes out with they automatically win the thread.

Uhhh...that's the best part.

Also, most of you people always really, really, REALLY suck at these kinds of threads. Sunshine? Jesse James? The Fountain? Are you fucking serious?

Just because you have a couple moronic friends with no taste in film or something got panned by critics upon release doesn't mean it doesn't have a huge fan base.

I always get my hopes up that perhaps someone will list an underapreciated gem I haven't seen, but then I wake up and realize this is GAF.

Super Mario Bros the film

Everyone seems to hate it and mock it....I think the way it adapted the game was brilliant, and overall very fun. I want a sequel. :(
We are blood brothers!

Let us continue the fight!

either you hate this movie or you love it. i only know about 4 people who love it. and about 100 who hate it.

i can still quote about 75% of the movie verbatim.....

One of my favorite movies that look awful but are absolutely awesome in every way. I had to keep yelling at my brother because he'd always steal my DVD of it after I made him watch it. Some of the lines.... :lol
"I'll take a pound of nuts"
"THATS A LOT OF NUTS"

I also really love The Whole Nine Yards. I was expecting a completely different movie due to the trailers but it was great. Whole Ten Yards..... yeah.... not so much.

Another that I admit is actually a crappy movie but I really enjoy anyway is Boys and Girls.

Lady in the Water
It was a realistic fairytale with awesome music and art direction.
I think people were disappointed because the movie didn't show any actual magical elements.
Seriously, anyone else like this movie.

I love this movie and so has everyone else that I've shown it too. I just made sure to tell them its a fairy tale, don't expect anymore more or any less. It isn't a horror film.

Big Trouble in Little China?!?!?!?!?!??!?

does not compute!

for me. I always loved the movie Fled.. with one of the Baldwins and Laurence Fishburne.. dont know why I like it so much.. but most people werent crazy about it..

and I agree with you about the Moore Bond films.. i loved them all

Among people I know, I feel like I'm the only one who likes V for Vendetta. Among the internet, I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't completely hate Spiderman 3.

This thread is ridiculous

Half the movies listed are, not only not terrible, but fantastic. It's like a thread of great movies that just don't get talked about much anymore. How can you actually believe you're the only person who likes Unbreakable, Sunshine, 30 Days of Night, Idiocracy, Oceans 12, Signs, etc? Sure, they received mixed reviews but... that's what they were, mixed. A lot of people loved them and a lot of people hated or felt neutral about them. Unbreakable and Idiocracy are among some of my favorites in their respective genres.

Ang Lee's Hulk, X-Men 3, Street Fighter Chun Li, Day the Earth Stood Still (remake), The Happening, almost any Uwe Bowl movie... those are some good answers. Personally, I hated all of them though and I can't think of a good answer for myself.

The Matrix Reloaded - I not only like it, I think that it is an overall better film than the first one. Maybe not as high in "watchability", but there is a lot going on that I really enjoy.

Casper - Along with Jumanji, my favorite childhood movie. Unlike Jumanji, this doesn't appear to have favored well with either critics or movie goers. Haven't seen it in years and I'm sure it probably hasn't aged well, I may try to never watch it again to keep the nostalgia of it high.

^^^ His entire career. Saw The Happening for the first time like a week ago and I couldn't understand what was SO DESPICABLE about it. The ending did leave a lot to be desired (It completely falls apart once they meet that old women), but I remember this being received as like, one of the worst movies of the year. I really liked Zooey Deschanel's performance. Too many times in movies and shit there is characters that are supposed to be weird or anti-social or something when they are really just quirky or pretentious but would in fact be cool to hang out with in real life. She came off as a realistic depiction of how some women act, the marraige actually seemed like it was bad, and I appreciated that.

Aside from these, I tend to like a lot of cheesy/campy horror/scfi that most people would probably laugh at. I enjoy all the Saw films, enjoy the hellraiser series, enjoy all the NoES movies, and I will watch 80's slashers all day. Fearnet is probably my favorite thing about comcast ondemand.

Also thought this was pretty cool.

I did hate Margot at the Wedding, though, sorry.

Add me to the [small] list of people who unapologetically enjoy all of Shyamalan's films; I wasn't as happy with the Happening as the rest, but it's definitely not without merit.

Ninth Gate is fantastic from beginning to end.

My friend Tom got this dollar DVD "The Robot vs The Aztec Mummy" a few years back, and we watched it doing MST style commentary over it. It was a Spanish movie dubbed in English from the 1930's, and it was EPICLY bad. Good times.

Oliver Stone's Alexander is quite probably the best ancient Greek-themed movie I have ever seen, and a very, very good movie overall. I've seen the movie several times (first in theaters, then in the extended DVD version "Alexander Revisited"), and loved it both times. Apart from the slight divergence into conspiracy theorizing near the end, it's just an amazing, amazing movie... I really don't know why so many people hated it. Is it because of the gay themes? But that was common in Ancient Greece, and Alexander almost certainly had male lover(s), so it fits fine (and no, I'm not gay)... is it because of the fact that it's not quite "Hollywood"? I'd put that as part of it, for sure. It's not your conventional Hollywood movie, certainly.

Troy was your conventional Hollywood movie about ancient Greece. And I thought that that movie wasn't very good at all, mediocre at best and pretty poor at worst... it just couldn't decide what it wanted to be ("realistic" or following the myths), and it didn't work as a result.

I mean, stuff like Clash of the Titans is great fun, but I wouldn't put it above Alexander.

... So yeah, I think that fits this thread. :)

The Director's Cut of Alexander got a huge amount of praise, though.

You're definitely not the only one who likes it.
It gets a lot of hate for a few scenes, most notably the underground disco and visa-vi, ergo, the architect, but for people who like sci-fi and action it's one of the most fun movies ever made.

Star Wars Episode 1, 2 and 3.

yes, this. god, this

Epidsode 3 especially. it's every star wars fanbody's wet dream. i honestly think people are so desensetized they just don't know how to enjoy star wars anymore. or they're just too nostalgic and sentimental about the old movies.
