Movies with great songs in their opening scenes

That’s a good pick. Just watched Drive again recently. Great flick

Edit

disregard my pick, finding a better example. Power of Love isn’t technically in the opening scene of Back to the Future, I guess

just in case, here it is

Edit

this isn’t a great pick but first thing I came up with

Donnie Darko - The Killing Moon

edit 3

Pulp Fiction? This technically isn’t the opener, the diner conversation opens the film right before this. If this counts then definitely count Power of Love in Back to the Future (my first pick)

Perhaps a strange choice since the music is so brief, but... nothing haunts me like the opening music and shots in David Lynch's harrowing Inland Empire (the same music later returns beautifully to cover the final sequence of the film).

Music was written / produced by Lynch himself, sung by his personal muse Chrysta Bell, who he later cast in the Twin Peaks revival.

Chrysta Bell:

For anyone wanting to see the song over the closing scenes (somewhat spoilerish, but it's an impenetrable film anyway, so you won't exactly understand what's being spoiled):

When I heard this in theaters, it was the first time I had heard the song, and my first full Quentin Tarantino film watched. I could just tell by the very opening that he was a premier star all in his own vision. Before I had even experienced a minute of his work I was deeply impressed

This isn’t the opening song, but imo the most powerful song in Joker. All the wrong that society does as one unit made up of individuals inflicts others, and in this case an innocent man who was lied to and wronged repeatedly until he broke. This song almost perfectly captures the weight of society crushing Arthur Fleck until he is no more and becomes Joker. It’s almost like the sound tells a story within a the story of Joker that can’t possibly be described in any other way. But I thought this should be shared and experienced by those who have seen Joker and know the events and people that caused them that lead to his descent into chaos and madness
