What format and settings are you encoding your music to?AlphaSnake said:Yep. And even still, 1GB = ~500 songs, which is a shit load.

Trakball said:ii no !! Don't tell Drinky, he'll be crushed. Actually I got it from someone on Fark, I didn't know what it was other than it was awesome![]()
Pedigree Chum said:Hey, Alpha did you post your impressions of the PSP? I must have missed it, can you link me to it?
AlphaSnake said:No I never posted them. I didn't think it'd be very necessary since a number of others have posted their impressions. Plus that PSP thread is so damn enormous, it'd just get lost. I will say that I absolutely love my PSP and it is 100% defect free.
Trakball said:You know what the irony of all this is? I hate Sony, love my iPod.......... but I REALLY want one of those little fuckers. It's the portable video + gaming that really appeals to me. And it's deadsexy too![]()
You're comparing LP4 tracks to what on the iPod? LP4 is decent using stock headphones and/or CD-quality source material. Transcoding tracks at "normal" bitrates is criminal.miyuru said:This thread has NOTHING to do with capacity. It's just saying the PSP has better sound quality than the iPod (at least, 3G). We're not saying one's better than the other, or anything like that, just the sound.
You people are so defensive!
While on sound quality, I noticed my MD on LP4 sounded better than an iPod, but only slightly. Even then, pretty pathetic IMO.
if sony could release a powered USB pack HDD for about 19800 yen, they could potentially cause some issues for the ipod. They could then have the mp3 play back and the movie player on a nice screen. I'm sure this must have crossed sony's mind...
mrklaw said:Alpha, PSP does have an equaliser of sorts. Press the 'music note' button and it'll cycle through about 5 different presets (pops, jazz, classical, that kind of stuff).
You know about holding the screen brightness button down to turn the screen off, right?
refreshZ said:I agree.
I noticed straight away that the PSP was playing my MP3s better than my iPod. And it surprised the hell outta me - I just wasn't expecting it at all. Feels weird trying to defend its MP3 capability - the damn things got SO many things going for it people just stare blankly and nod when you tell them its a kick ass MP3 player as well.
Manics said:Why is that so surprising? SONY should know a thing or two about making audio players....they've only been doing it for about forever.
Gantz said:You need a good pair of headphones if you want good quality sound from your iPod. The earbuds that come with it are shit.
no you dont understand, playing superior audio is its priority! it's a multimedia device! yes, playing music albums might not be it's normal mode of operation, but certainly playing complex game soundtracks is one of it's normal modes of operation. and the microelectronics themselves are so cheap that it doesnt really take a lot to design a good amplifier, and as has been said, lord knows, if anyone, sony should know a thing or two about audio.AlphaSnake said:It's surpring because the PSP is a game-unit foremost, and a media player secondly. The fact that it plays MP3s so superbly is shocking because it's not the unit's priority.
smaller flash players likewise trump the iPod when it comes to portability, durability and battery life. that said, while i don't own an iPod, i've used it long enough to realize that it's too large a player for my tastes(though i dig its interface), and couldn't even imagine using a PSP as my all purpose DAP.
