Wow, there's no way I could have comprehended how deep a whole Microsoft is in right now. Gears of War is the only title that seems to have any leverage and it's not going to be at launch. The killer launch title that draws people to the system has been...as Goremedy puts it so eloquently...SENT BACK TO THE CHEF. That is just terrifying, especially when DOA4 doesn't seem to have 1/10th the visual whiz bang DOA3 possesed. Then you look through your green tinted binoculars and notice a 4-6 month window to establish yourself before SONY LAUNCHES WITH GRAND FUCKING THEFT SHITINYOURPANTS., and the only hands in your deck are a couple of impressive PC titles (CoD, Morrowind), an awesome looking Ghost Recon 3, Kameo, and some EA givens. Don't even ask me what the fuck they're doing with both binoculars and a pack of cards in the same allusion. Shit!

Just don't know what to make of the Square announcement. You can't tell if they will do FFXI and then some crap 2nd-rate stuff or if they'll keep on doing FF games.

GoW, PGR3 and Ghost Recon look great.

BC with some Xbox games is not the best news. Will be interesting to see what they list as compatible - better not be a small list.

Good to see a few RPGs will be available for the Japanese market and Kameo looks like it will appeal to Zelda lovers.

A few duds in there though - like that 2K6 game.

SO telling that PD0 was not shown - the fact he announced it would be shown smacks of a last minute decision to pull the game that he forgot to account for in his speech. I would say goodbye to a launch release for that game.

It's still early as hell, but it looks like they built up a helluvalot of momentum just to kill it themselves by fucking up on the most important aspect. The games. A couple of games look good, but the majority do NOT.

Ghost Recon 3 and ESPECIALLY GoW looked great, definitely next-gen stuff. PGR3 looked real good.

But I was much more impressed by the Killzone and Motor Storm trailers. Those blew me away.

edit: I need to see higher quality streams like those on Gamespot for the PS3. Because right now a majority of the PS3 stuff look a lot better. Killing Day and that off-road racing game at the end of Showcase 2 are fanfuckingtastic.

Man this really reminds of the first time they showed the Xbox in 2001. It was horrible! The machine wouldn't start, the games looked like ass. But in the end, they pulled it together and had a good launch.

Having said that, I pretty disappointed in this presentation. I might still pick it up at launch but my enthusiasm is dulled a bit. You have to at least give them credit for having the balls to show off almost all gameplay footage...finished or not.

Looks like SquareEnix are going after the EA business model and are going to truely be multiplatform next gen. I wonder if this means that big games like Final Fantasy are going to be on multiple consoles.

From my perspective it's a good strategy to move their online properties to full multiplatform: maximizes the reach of monthly money sinks, with no comparable competition...

But that's the thing -- they didn't. Most of the actual gameplay footage shown was from EA; all gameplay footage looked significantly worse. They knew that and tried showing only a little bit of it. NFSMW did not look that hot in the gameplay footage.

Major titles will work, but they aren't going to go out of their way to account for low-selling titles.

yes, but only confirmed for the "best selling" (or some such nonsense) titles... so its probably going to emulate titles. hopefully that means they will be improved.

That whole show sucked. I'm not really sure if I want to get a 360 this year after watching that. Sure games like Gears of War, Oblivion, Ghost Recon 3, and PGR3 looked amazing but after seeing the PS3 in action, I'm decidedly less stoked with MS.

Knowing myself, I'll probably succumb to buying the system early just for Oblivion but holy hell, what a shitty presentation tonight.

to be fair, microsoft showed mostly in game videos which is something sony did not, they showed pre renderd or cg stuff, also x360 had alot of (too much) EA stuff which i doubt uses the harware to the max.

Its a close call, but if p23 can do what those videos showed, then that is that.

The big difference is that last time they launched after Sony and had the most powerful system, so they had time to work the kinks out. This time, they have a brief window to establish themselves; if they blow that, they won't get another chance.

I think GoW is exclusive.

Even if PDO winds up a little iffy looking, which I do think they'll rectify by release, it's still PD. If it turns out as downright spiffy as an evolution to the N64 game should be, I'll likely jump in.

Right now, I really like the console. I like the UI and all the XBL integration. But the launch lineup just seems like it may be a little thin.
