MS Cancels 1 on 1 Interviews with GB, GI.biz, Tapezilla...MCV?: "Scheduling conflict"

I don't really buy the scheduling excuse.

If there is a scheduling conflict, re-schedule, don't cancel.

And how bad do you have to be at scheduling to mess up a roundtable + multiple (?) one-on-one interviews?

Not only one scheduling conflict either. I'm sure it's just their excuse for being selective on who to be interviewde by.

Yep. Also, I'm sure these interview appointments were made in advance. How do you wait until now to cancel them?

Major Nelson just tweeted about this. Says it was merely a scheduling conflict and the 1on1's are still on.

So the thread can be closed I guess.

The xbone is connected to the PR bone, the PR bone is connected to the exec bone, the exec bone is connected to the shareholder bone...

It's like Steve Ballmers wet dream, but only if at the very last minute it turned into a nightmare featuring an undead Margaret Thatcher boning a badger.

It's all gone so so wrong.

*standing ovation* Excellently played, sir.

On-topic, it's evident the echo chamber effect is way more powerful than MS's preliminary predictions. Combined with the fact that they do have some problems, I won't find it surprising if they won't hold a pre- or immediately post-E3 presser at all (group or 1on1), but rather spam whatever games they have for the controlled show-and-tell and let the "ZOMGPWN DAY -31 OLOLO" fanboys drown the critical voices with their gushing. They'll bring the pain later afterwards, once they consider the heat has turned down a bit. Were I in their position, that's what I'd go for.

E3 is busy there probably isn't time to reschedule

Not even the roundtable? It's an hour, maybe less, and a chance to give multiple journos access all at once. Ought to be the last one to go in a time-constrained scenario.

Not buying it.

I don't really buy the scheduling excuse.

If there is a scheduling conflict, re-schedule, don't cancel. Particularly with the roundtable, it's an easy way to give multiple people access in a limited amount of time.

If the scheduling excuse is real it's them basically saying "we have more important shit to do than talk to the press."

Not exactly the message you want out there. So if the excuse is bullshit... that's bad. And if it's real - that's also bad.

What in God's name am I reading?

A simple fact. Up until the very end of this generation, Sony played third fiddle in terms of market penetration. They have momentum now, but they really need to put in their A game to beat out MS regardless of all their fuck ups.

Sony has a single franchise that sells comparably to MSs juggernauts and that's GT.

Doesn't mean their offerings were of bad quality, just that they had to claw their way back to relevancy over the last 6 years.

Are you fucking high?

Don't get your panties in a twist.

I think it says a lot about the hardcore audiences lack of faith in MSFT that we have a seven page thread due to ONE cancellation due to scheduling conflicts.

Agreed but Adam Sesslers posts on his twitter seem to indicate this kind of thing happens all the time right before E3. Unless I am reading it wrong.

Also it was interesting to read the writeup on Major Nelson's tweet from the first person canceled. But whatever its going to be an interesting time.

That would be unbelievably stupid. OTOH, I bet MS is sick and tired of the gaming press, and would love to Nuke GAF and other online message boards.

I don't really see why. It's not like most gamers read forums, or really give a shit what some nerd "journalist" says/thinks.

I think people are way overestimating the ruckus caused by the reveal and DRM that may be coming. WAY overestimating.

blood is in the water...

everyone is ready to pounce on good old Microsoft,

guess i can put my pitchfork down
for now!!

I guess they have a clear focus on their next gen mentality and they know that whatever they say, they will have a backlash, regardless of anything. It doesn't look like they are solving the DRM issue, therefore they feel that they might as well abandon the gamers market and promote themselves for the average joes and janes.

Even with the bad press MS has been getting lately, cancelling the roundtable event won't make matters any better. Bad move on their part.... and they've been making a lot of those lately.

TBH with you it's probably not "we have more important shit to do than talk to the press.", I would more likely to be "we can't trust any of our execs from the different regions to stick to the script".

To be fair, do we know when these cancelled interviews are? Right after the cancelled round table?

At this point I don't buy it at all, but schedules get thrown around, and no exec would trade a possibility to meet with trade partners for an interview, that's just plain logic.

The OP should be updated with all the gaming journalists MS are having "scheduling conflicts" with, and see what their stance on DRM is.

ever since the shitty MS press conference and the apparent direction they've been going down for the last 3 years it's fun to watch this trainwreck.

I had hopes they would change things up for a new generation of gaming consoles but it's clear now that MS isn't going after my money. it's not so bad due to the fact most people on my friends list are aware of what MS is doing and are most likely getting PS4s.
