MS Cancels 1 on 1 Interviews with GB, GI.biz, Tapezilla...MCV?: "Scheduling conflict"

Only logical they are cancelling the interviews. People don't have to have questions, trust MS, everything will be juuuust fine.

In all seriousness, their whole PR department is an utter failure. I haven't seen anything in the past 15-20 years being nearly as bad as Microsofts.

Patrick is the closest to a Sony fanboy on GB.

Jesus... Do you spend any time on GB? They're about the most platform agnostic guys you'll find because generally speaking, they don't give a shit about pretty much anything. Patrick is the closest to someone who cares about anything that you'll find on GB, but claiming he's near being a Sony fanboy? I just don't understand people.

What a PR mess for Microsoft. You would think that one of the richest companies in the world would get Marketing and PR right. With Halo they have shown they can do it right, but with Win 8 and Xbone, unbelievable.

Whatever it is you're smoking, please pass me some.

Sony fans seem to be so high on all the bad PR fumes coming from MS right now that they've completely forgotten how the PS3 struggled to make a dent in the market, and how it took Sony freaking 6 years to even tie with MS.

Get off your horse and listen: I love their current position: They're back at a point where they actually matter and could lead again, but they have to remain hungry to do so. Complacency is not an option. That's why I'm looking forward to the PS4.
It's not going to be sabotaged by a complacent arrogant as shit 2006 Sony. It will be supported by a hungry rejuvenated Sony that actually wants to fight.

The same was true for MS when they launched the 360, and why it was one of the best consoles I ever owned.

Why do I even bother explaining myself, people are in crazy mode anyway...

Their different divisions almost act as separate companies, AFAIK. Xbox being part of their entertainment division, IIRC.

Sounds like overall Microsoft is limiting which execs will be doing interviews, to help control content, and selecting only certain media outlets, for whatever reason you'd like to read into that.

This is getting beyond ridiculous.

Aren't video games meant to be fun? Shouldn't their be an atmosphere of giddy anticipation surrounding a new console?

How has it gone so wrong?

Everything building up to Microsoft's new machine has felt more like the dread of waiting for some new draconian act to be passed into law than it has the hype of a new games console.
There are no next-gen gaming consoles.
Xbox One and PS4 are anti-consumer non-gaming media devices out to destroy 30+ years of game ownership.
Current gen platforms (X360, PS3 and WiiU), PCs, portables and phones are now GAF's safe haven for games going forward.
Purchase either of the heathen systems and you will be ostracized and cast out of GAF Gold.

Perhaps Sony will rise PS4 out of the abyss but it shall remain there with Xbox One until they choose to make their intentions known.
(And if this is merely a scheduling debacle as Major Larry insists then it just fuels the perception that Microsoft is not only tyrannical... but also incompetent.)

I guess we'll just have to wait. It could be just a scheduling conflict, but it's weird to have all of these things cancelled before E3 when people are waiting for their explanation on Used Games and DRM.

If Microsoft really cancelled these interviews as GI.biz said to focus on gameplay experiences, then it sounds like they are trying to dodge questions about specifics regarding their online system and system specifications.

My favorite thing about these recent Microsoft bad news threads are the "Hey, so the story was only partially true, so we can just close this thread now" posts.

The extent to which people are just looking for reasons to be negative about Microsoft is staggering.

Now we have people in here implying that Major Nelson is lying? Why would he be? E3 is a fucking huge event where I'm sure conflict schedules arise all the time. Not to mention, and I say this as a Giant Bomb fan, Giant Bomb isn't exactly big stuff when it comes to user base. If you have to cancel some interviews, it's better to cancel on smaller sites (like Giant Bomb, and those other websites I've never even heard of.) Then it is to do on something like Gametrailers.

The band-wagons on this board get so omnipresent this time of year.

Well it's pretty understandable. Just like publishers, the press doesn't want to sour ties with what they expect to be the dominant platform holder.

Remember, Sony is playing catch-up, and have mattered very little this last generation.

PS3 135,021 (+4%) 77,448,493
X360 89,102 (-1%) 77,400,771

I don't know how the PS brand can recover from this dominance.

Microsoft executive's can't even fart anymore without causing an explosion on gaf.

If it were truly a scheduling conflict, it's most likely there would have been RESCHEDULED interviews, even if they were a day or so after the original time/event. I'm not saying its impossible for there to be conflicts (it's pretty difficult to get everything into place when you're dealing with so many people), but this is just incompetence if they didn't communicate what was going on and how they would correct for it to the press members being effected.

Boo on the people organizing this. A waste of time and what little goodwill Microsoft has lingering at this point in the reveal.

Yes I do. They're a very Xbox/PC-centric site. The majority of quicklooks and TNT games played are either xbox or PC, Patrick is the one person there who seems to have spent more time with PS3, which is what my post is about. I don't think he's a Sony fanboy, or the others are MS fanboys though.

Another thing I just thought of, other than GI.biz, the other outlets they have cancelled with are primarily video focused websites.

My favorite thing about these recent Microsoft bad news threads recently are the "Hey, so the story was only partially true, so we can just close this thread now, right?" posts.

Or how about the thread was made and has grown on the basis that Microsoft are choosing not to answer the questions at all, when that is clearly false and has been debunked?

Kotaku, for what it's worth, have been very good at hassling Microsoft on DRM issue and there are countless others too.

Amazing feat. Coming from the best selling console of all time to barely finish second after 7 years. Amazing. If you're interested in an explanation of what I meant, read my earlier post, otherwise keep on flinging poo at anyone who isn't praising Sony right now.
