[MS-Conf] The Halo 4 E3 Campaign Reveal

No reason why there still wouldn't be anti-human remnants. It was a massive intergalactic religious order/empire - that doesn't just disappear overnight.

The Covenant is the organization, not the aliens themselves... There's a lot more to Halo fiction than just the games.

Thanks guys.

I felt like I was the only one who knew this. Had to keep telling this to everyone who is all "omgwtfbbq why are covenant still around!"

Changed it to Elites/Grunts.

Their whole ideology was proven to be false and the people they followed tried to kill them off, why on Earth would the Elites still be following the same path they used to after all that. Also, the chief helped free their people.

I know, I don't understand how their existence is so hard to comprehend for some people. If anything, they exist just to show one of the new enemies vaporize an elite in front of your eyes as some sort of visual metaphor for "out with the old, in with the new".

Also, this game looks amazing.

My main problem is with the Elites who are fighting the guy who helped prove that their religion was false and helped defeat the rest of the covenant that was trying to wipe out their species, other covenant species are fine. It makes absolutely no sense that any Elites would be fighting the chief, if anything he would be more like a hero to them.

There are multiple factions of Elites. Some of them still belive that Forerunners are gods...
Enemy of my enemy is not my friend, just a temporary ally.

A big hearty laugh at people saying it looked to easy, did you miss how many times the player had NO shields? the player would have died if it was not for the E3 no death cheat on.

Game looked amazing, even better than I expected, where are the people that said this looked like Halo 3? =p

Was also really surprised they showed off the new enemy, I figured they would wait until we played it to reveal them.

Although, I have to say, I didn't care for the scripted events that played out a couple times. They weren't really necessary IMO.

Give em a day or so. They're probably in the COD thread.

What does believing the forerunners are gods have to do with attacking the chief?

Eh, they don't like humans? Come on, you're in war with a species for 25 years, one guy making a favor to you doesn't make him your hero nor a friend. There are Elites who belive the humans are a threat that needs to be annihilated. Besides, helping them ain't going to impress them, they're warriors who belive they can do anything, and indeed the Elites did the majority of killing the Prophets and Covenant Loyalists.

Yeah but remember in Halo 2 there were the heretic factions you fought as arbiter? I think of these aliens like they were.

And I agree with you that most of the elites probably do hold the chief up as a hero now, but they were a gigantic, alien religious group.

Imagine if someone proved that God wasn't real today. Some people would be glad that someone showed them the truth and freed them from a false path, others would not want to believe it, would defy it, etc.

In any case you have to admit it was crazy when that Elite vaporized in front of the Chief!

Forerunner designs look very Metroid-ish indeed, I will miss the serene blue glow they used to have. Otherwise looks like what a Halo game should be this day and age.

Halo 4 coming up on G4

Was anything new shown?

[edit]

Watching it now, looks like they're just re-playing what was shown earlier today.

By the way, the whole HUD is glitched out right now. The HUD got moved an inch or two to the left. lol

My skull was crushed and my face was melted by the awesome. I am absolutely blown away.

*I just hope there's a standard, human shotgun to go along with the new alien one. :(

And these are rogue convenant, who says they know what the chief did a few years back?

What the hell is up with the camera on G4? It's like off center to the left.

I noticed that too. The in-game HUD was offset to the left, which made shooting extremely difficult since the reticule didn't properly display where your bullets would go. Not the ideal way to demonstrate your game on national television.

I meant in what way are they rogue e.g. do they still follow the covenant, have they been cut off from the rest of Elite society, do they follow some crazy leader etc.

Ah, we don't know. I'm going to assume they're really rogues, they might be in contact with the Covenant but they don't follow anyone really.
Hmm. This is quite interesting actually, hopefully 343i has fiction written/made about them.

the b roll really captures (tentatively) the newer, more lightweight physics. I believe it looks faster than the recent Halos.

I'm really of two minds on this one.

On the one hand, it looks amazing, with an adventury feel to it, some nice, pure, clean designs. Plus, I'm genuinely excited about Spartan Ops. And I dig the Bear books, even though I'm really not a VG novels kind of guy.

OTOH, this, no Marty music and the MP changes, what looks like a less sandboxy game make the conservative in me worried. Sure, if they listened to this conservatism, they'd redo halo, halo 3 and Reach ad nauseam.

At least, no one can think 343 aren't willing to take risks to move the series forward.

What in terms of openness do you guys expect? There are several areas I think we'll see a lot of freedom, such as the desert type environment. Hopefully that is the case. I don't want to be confined to smallish paths the whole game.
