MS: Halo 5, Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break dates at E3; new exclusives this year

Has any information been released about that, or what it is exactly?

I believe we've just seen that CGI trailer. Insomniac has disappointed me too much as of late. Had they announced this back after ACiT, I'd be hyped, but right now? I'm highly skeptical.

I don't think so. Microsoft has been cranking up the hype machine for Quantum Break since the reveal of the Xbox One. They talked about it during E3 and they talked about it for VGX. I think that the one game that doesn't make it in 2014 is Sunset Overdrive.

Sunset Overdrive was confirmed as a 2014 game when MS released a press release at the Xbox One launch and the twitter account for the game once again reiterated it only a few days ago

Microsoft have said we'll see it soon (via twitter but I'm not going to search for it as I could be here for hours) and they've had a lot of staff going over to Insomniac recently to check it out.

Sunset Overdrive will be a 2014 release.

It was announced at E3 2013 as a 2014 game...

Was it? I don't remember them saying that. I thought that was just something people assumed. Did they even refer to it as Halo 5 at E3? I thought it was just a very vague trailer. Considering we've seen no gameplay, not even a screenshot, it's reasonable to question whether it will really make this year. And of course this happens to be the 10 year anniversary of Halo 2, so if Halo 5 isn't ready, Halo 2 anniversary is a very natural candidate for release this year.

I think Forza Horizon 2 is a pretty safe bet for a new (late) 2014 exclusive.

Oh I would be so damn happy. I don't mind track racing, but after cruising through that playground that was Colorada in Horizon, it just isn't quite as thrilling to me.

I just hope we don't get shafted on cars again. There were only 211 in Horizon, so if it gets halved again like it did in FM5, I will be very sad.

They have said Halo will be on Xbox One in 2014, they haven't said it's Halo 5.

I'm still expecting Halo 2 anniversary this November and Halo 5 in 2015.

I'll be happy to be wrong about Halo 5 coming this year. The day Halo arrives is the day I buy an Xbox One.

Good, we need some dates.

Next year's line-ups for both of the new consoles look quite barren so far, which is why I haven't bought either yet.

Actually, it's because of my backlog :´(

I stand corrected.

I guess I'll just hold off on making prognostications until E3. LOL

Cranking up hype machine= 10 seconds of actual gameplay footage released last year. :p

They've been very specific to never mention the words "Quantum Break" and "2014" in the same sentence. It's not coming out this year.

One of the main reasons (among a few) I am getting an Xbox One first. The first one just might be the best racing game I have ever played.

This. I already have a PS4, but I will buy an Xbone for a Horizon 2.

Forza Horizon was such an amazing game. I really hope another one comes soon - I much prefer it to normal Forza.

Weird that they've shown the most from Quantum Break yet that is the game with the least concrete release date.
Don't worry. Microsoft will start the Halo and Sunset marketing campaigns within the next couple of months. We'll start seeing vidocs, trailers, articles and demos very soon.

Yes, it was. The only trailer I can find that confirms it is this one, if you wait until the camera pans out at the end you can see it says 2014, i'll try and find a better video though.

Microsoft dont tend to show off their games early, so having seen none of the next Halo so far isn't a surprise to me. Theres plenty of time before it launches to show it off.

Also, I don't really think they'll do an anniversary edition of Halo 2.

Edit: Close up trailer of the end where it undoubtedly says 2014 on Xbox One

Yea, the devs talked about it extensively in this video. Lots of interesting tidbits.

Apparently it's a fast paced third person action shooter where you traverse the world using parkour techniques and wall running and platforming, but in a persistently online way, where players change the conditions of the world frequently and developer adds things based on player preferences and things like internet memes, guns, etc:

Ted Price said:
You said that “Sunset Overdrive” is a living world, facilitated by the cloud. Can you tell us more about that?

Imagine a game where the experience can constantly change, and is influenced by its community of players. With “Sunset Overdrive” we aspire to redefine “agility” as we listen to feedback players give us while playing the game and then respond with meaningful content - fast. In particular our goal is to maintain an ongoing 2-way dialogue with our community.

Don’t like something? Tell us. Got an idea for something cool in the game? Speak up! We’re building systems to support rapid content updates. I'm talking about pop culturally relevant content like memes and social commentary, new weapons, new characters, and more. And because “Sunset Overdrive” is a stylized, satirical game we’re not limited by some strict idea of what’s “appropriate”.

Yeah I don't see QB happening this year. I see Sunset Overdrive, Halo 4, and Forza Horizon 2, hitting before the end of year, though. With Titanfall, D4, and Kinect Sports hitting this year as well 2014 is pretty awesome for exclusives.

Sunset Overdrive sounds like the game Microsoft will send out to die during the big holiday period.

Hope not but they do love to focus on the big games and ignore everything else then wonder why it wasn't successful.

And Halo 5, development on it started before Halo 4 even shipped,

How'd that workout for Halo 4? Oh, right, it was shite.

that's usually how most game development is done when talking about sequels. I'm sure MS knows to give them time. I'm hoping they know what they're doing.

Yeah all those great decisions MS has been making the past decade.

Almost feel sorry for 343. If MS had any sense they wouldn't release Halo game in the same quarter as Destiny. It's going to be brutal.

lol halo against a new ip

bet the guys at ms studios are terrified

Looking forward to it! I'm pretty psyched to see what Sunset Overdrive actually is rather than hearing scattered bit of info here and there.

Not weird at all, it sure looks fantastic.

I just figure MS would want to lead with the games that they are at least aiming for release this year rather than one that looks to be coming in 2015. Not that I'm complaining, the game looks wonderful.

Quantum Break, sure, Remedy's a little notorious for their release dates. A couple of posts right above yours we have Insomniac's James Stevenson reconfirming (again) this year for Sunset.

I suppose. I still don't believe in Sunset Overdrive, and I can't imagine 343 Industries being capable of another game the scale of Halo 4, or bigger, so soon. I think the former will miss the year, and the latter will release this year despite needing more time. Halo 5 will probably be forced to make this year.

They've said several times now that the new Halo is this year, and it is Halo 5 or "Halo: The game that comes after 4 but now has a subtitle because new generation and kinda starting fresh with new concepts".

343 is in the middle of a trilogy, it wouldn't make sense to stop working on that (and they've been working on 5 before 4 shipped), and do a spin-off in the middle of that.

I enjoyed Halo 4, so I guess there's something wrong with me.

Yeah. I mean, didn't they learn anything from the extremely low sales that were the result of releasing Halo Reach, ODST, CEA and 4 in the same quarters as CoD?

oh wait

and even this is an exaggerated example as Destiny won't be as big as CoD with its first game.

I'm expecting a Phantom Dust announcement. Been a fair amount of chatter regarding this franchise recently.

It appears that there are some people with MS xbla/first party digital games division that are advocates.

Halo will sell more in a month than Destiny will sell in 2014, I'd wager.

Cant wait to see more of Black Tusk's game, which I would hope will be at E3 again.

I think they're going to save it for E3 2015, other then maybe a small teaser and a logo. It would not be smart of MS to have Black Tusk's game fight for attention against Halo and Sunset during E3.
