Finally bought a new PSP, but then pushed the demon onto someone else. Jesus.
It has been so long, refresh my memory. What did they steal from Novell again?

I remember my old roommate was a network admin for a company that was Pro-Netware. I was with the Federal Government doing the same thing (Pro M$).

He'd tell me to get certified in Novell, and I would just roll my eyes...

:lol

I see a pattern here: Steal software -> Make billions -> Get sued -> Pay millions

How can a company be so uninspired and yet manage to make so much money?

I don't even remember anymore.. Active Directory in my mind is a pretty strong rip off of Novell's network stuff....

Novell is now suing them over something related to WordPerfect.

Too bad that Image one shot comic book about Roosevelt and the time machine isn't true. Then we'd have Teddy coming back and saying "Get ready for the big stick Billy Boy!" *Swack!* ;)

But yeah, like Che said, it is amazing that companies like MS can basically do/steal what they want and pay very small penalties for such actions. That's what happens in a society where the legal system favors those with the most money/lawyers (though it's hard to see how to change the system without coming up with an equally unfair system).

If you can get away with it why not?

Money should not be used as 'punishment' to companies.

I'm pretty sure this lawsuit is about unfair business practices that made it hard for Novell to sale NetWare. I'm also pretty sure that bad sales had nothing to do with NetWare sucking.

After setting up Novell Netware networks, I can tell you, there are some great things about, since it's so damn complicated that no one would consider fucking up your network cause they would be lost without a guidebook.

As for letting someone steal your work, and make a profit off it, I don't think you'll feel the same when your job gets outsourced. ;)

Exactly. They should force them to cancel the product they stole or stop selling it. That could teach them a lesson (given that they invested on the stolen product). But noooo. They "punish" them with ridiculous amounts of money compared to the profit they made by stealing the software. The whole freaking company was build on stealing others' ideas and that's what pisses me off the most about them. Not their crappy software, not their total lack of imagination, not even their business tactics. It's the fact that they don't deserve it. Even their best imo product -xbox- borrows every single idea from PCs and previous consoles.
