that is a nice commercial. i hope thats indicitive of how marketing will be structured for the system (though obviously with some in game footage :P)

It has the stamp of Peter Moore all over it. Besides the swirl logo, the female voiceover sounds identical to the female voice in the Dreamcast commercials.

COMMERCIAL SCRIPT:

"A momentous event is coming to MTV...

...un unveiling...

...a revelation that will change entertainment forever...

...witness it for the first time...

...thursday, May 12 at 9:30 only on MTV."

I gotta say, I just love the reactions of posters here.

Spooging over the teaser of a teaser of the unveiling of a system that won't be out for 6 month. And people bash Nintendo for stacking their E3 audience w/ blindly allegiant fans.
:lol

Sonycowboy a little afraid of the 360? :D

DS is beating PSP. Xbox 360 is going to be beating the PS3. Sony is getting attacked on two fronts and losing! Will they be able to recover and claim the championship title on both fronts? Stay tuned!

And more people will make presumptive posts about the victors of next generation!

but seriously, that's fun. I think sonycowboy IS a little afraid :lol

I'm not presuming anything, it is a fact! The Xbox 360 launches this Xmas to get a head start just like the DS launched early to get a head start. The Xbox 360 will be ahead of the PS3 by a couple million units by the time it launches! Sonycowboy will have to do twice the damage control? Should be fun! :D

the ps3 will make up that difference in a few weeks in japan alone mr. bob (assuming sony ships enough units). Anyone even contemplating x360 even coming close to the ps3 as far as sales go over the course of next gen is smokin some wild 420. It is really simple, sony has god the Playstation brand, microsoft doesn't. But hey, you can quote me on this and if Im wrong once everything settles down and the ps3 doesn't outsell the x360 by at least 60 million units, ill eat my post :)

Heh, be fair now. You haven't laughed at people fapping and arguing over the Cell unveiling, and that's a year or so away.

Well, not laughing, but it was pretty funny how many EE's we had in here when it was shown. But at least that's a part of the system. This isn't even the Xbox360 itself, or a game, it's an ad for the MTV show for goodness sakes.

And for those of you who think I'm fearful, grow up. I fully expect Microsoft to at least double their sales this generation and get over a 40M unit installed base and it could be higher. And, I've actually started to consider getting it, just like I did the Xbox (admittedly, I had that for only a year). I'm just a monogomous gamer for some reason. I don't have the time to play anything and the PS2 just fit better, although I clearly have an affinity.

I know I'm probably a bit of a killjoy and that the anticipation is building, but really, it's just a 30 second spot of not much.

You sure they didn't pass some of that stuff off to you?

Cool.

Twilight Zone Moment! I thought you got a boner everytime someone said Cell?

4-21-05 7:00 Central Time, this is marked. So, you are telling me that Sony is going to ship over 3 million in Japan in 3-4 weeks, that alone means your argument is flawed. Microsoft is doing everything right. You don't want them as your competition if they are doing everything right. Sony isn't invincible. Microsoft shipping 3 million out the gate shows they aren't bullshitting on the prospect of them actually coming ahead, you shouldn't either.

I know tons of people that are watching/Tivoing/whatever else there is with this. They got the hype they need, it's up to them to deliver. They can effectively eliminate Sony and Nintendo from some people's mind if their 30 minute ad is hot enough. For the people who only get one console, they can watch this, and be like, that's it, I only want this. I think they are going to throw the kitchen sink in there as well. Hell, my mom wants to watch this, she hasn't touched shit since the Intellivision. Everybody wants to see what the hype is about.

Maybe the five minute breathtaking in-game video presentation Sony will deliver on E3 make zillions of people shut their mouth about Halo's and that things...

Or maybe I'm saying too much...

from now on, I dont want to see Sonycowboy get excited for anything that is more than 6 months away.

I mean, the guys name is Sony Cowboy and he is going to say other people blindly follow a company? pot. kettle.

dude its actually just the next gen hype. most of these ppl, i dont think are even xbox fans. we are all just eager to get this gen over with already, i know i am very excited for xenon stuff, and i dont even play xbox/ps2 all that much due to time constarints. its a hardware thing, i was very excited abt the psp as well.

Forget how sonycowboy feels about the PS3, just the way he builds up every NPD release should make his comment laughable!

So what, this thread is not about that.

Some people just have an urge to downplay everything.

1) It's a commercial that doesn't demonstrate anything even close to the Xbox360, which I agree, many of us are hyped to see.

2) Stooge = Spooge by only the slimmest margin

3) Fuck off, you name nazi. Clearly I'm a Sony fan, but I'm not talking about people blindly following Microsoft. I'm commenting on an MTV commercial, get it?

4) I'll get excited about the PSP, Xenon, PS3, Star Wars, Mac OS 10.4, NFL Football, NPD, whatever the hell I want to get excited about. You can get excited about whatever you want. If you want to spooge over a commercial, feel free. I will still laugh near you.

5) I'm not unbiased, but I try real hard to be fair, most of the time. I chose my name because I like Sony as they got me back into gaming after a 13 year hiatus and I like the Cowboys because I grew up in Texas (and they're the most successful team in the modern NFL era)

That was unexpected. A kick ass "wonder" commercial. OK, now I am curious. I have been exceited and ready for the next gen for awhile. I expect it's going to be a SERIOUS jump in power.

This commerical however, makes me curious about the MTV show; in that it does a killer job. Congrats to whoever created this concept. Nice.

The show still has to show me some GAMES!!!! Games, not just cewl peps dancing an holdin cuntrolerts....

No doubt. Evidently it's alright to go bat shit insane over some monthly sales data but god forbid if people show any interest in a commercial teaser about a next gen console that a lot of people here are already anticipating. What's even more ironic is that sonycowboy started a thread about this commercial over at IGN. Fuckin' crazy I tells ya.

Ramirez said:
You know people are gonna get excited so why even make a comment like that in the first place?

I guess I should know better. I personally found it funny that people were saying that the commercial was so great / brilliant / slick, when I thought it was merely a teaser. It's not the ad that's good, it's the fact that it's a tangible demonstration that Xbox360 is soon to be unveiled.

What I should've added on to my comment was that people aren't really reacting to the quality of the commercial itself, even though some of them think they are, they're reacting to the anticipation.

Hey, hey, hey. Have some respect. There's a world of difference between a TV ad and the wonderful magnificence and utmost importance of NPD's TRSTS! :D

I've made my little comment and clearly, the Xbots are really in a lather as they felt it was some attack or sign of Sony weakness. I can accept that and I accept all of the wonderful comments that have come my way. I deserved it. Carry on.

Let's talk more about that commercial! Surely there must be some secret meanings we can discern.

The purpose of the commercial was to increase anticipation for the xbox2 announcement and it did its job just fine. Thats all there is to it.

Meh, it's just a commercial. I'm not gonna shit my pants over it. The only thing it really confirms is that Green is guaranteed to be involved with the X360 in some way. The mysteriousness of the commercial will probably garner a few more viewers though.

Agent Ice, note that I said IF sony is able to ship enough units, the jpns will buy em (on the order of yes, 3 million + in ~1 month). Now if they can't ship that amount then that is another story. My main point was that after the gen is over, expect the following result:

X360 = x

Ps3 = x + ~60 million

And that my friend, you can quote me on. :)

Oh and w/ regard to the mtv spot, lol, you really don't think that if sony wanted to, the could do the same exact thing, only do it a month-week before the xbox launch? get real man, no one decides on something 6 months in advance. People might get hyped by the spot, but sony could just as easily deflate it closer to the actual x360 street date.

Gonna get hate for this but... I agree with SonyCowboy. The commercial doesn't do anything for me, and I'm excited for the next-gen consoles. It didn't even seem mysterious, or maybe I've sen too many music videos/movie trailers

Now THAT is the most insightful comment in the thread so far. I read the first page of this thread and then watched the video expecting to be blown away. What I can say about it is:

1) I'm deeply relieved it's not embarassingly bad.
2) It was a teaser, no more. As such (judging by this thread) it clearly worked. It's not the teaser that got everyone excited, it's what it's FOR.

Taken out of context, I found it just okay. But damn - color me teased. :)

C'mon guys, whether you're a Sony homer or not, you have to admit that it was a well done commercial. I mean it wasn't lightning bolts flying out of your ass good; but it was a well done commercial none the less. The production values where high, and it really was quite slick.

Oh BTW, I'm an Xbox homer. :)

At the ten-second mark there is a sign pointing in two directions with lots of symbols on them. I only recongnized one - and a few others looked VERY interesting. Hidden meanings?

yeah! well! the chick with the spray paint has a gas mask around her neck. And she's in moscow.

Xbox 360 will protect you from russian skateboard terrorists!
