"Mulan" - 2020 - Live Action Remake

Looks good at least. Seems to be a straight retelling of the Mulan story with less Disney. Just hope they get the names right. Hua Mulan, not Fa. Also learn how to pronounce Zhou. It isn't Zoo.

I almost wanna watch a Chinese movie about Mulan so I can compare this to whatever's out there.

There's a Chinese version of Mulan ... It was posted about by sol_bad sol_bad and another poster, I believe.

Where the hell did they shoot this? It sure as hell doesn't invoke the atmosphere of China. I know it's an American production, but you'd think they'd put more effort in making it look like the setting where the story takes place. I can't help but call it a cheap Netflix kung fu flick.

These videos by Chinese vlogger Li Ziqi on the other hand, feel more authentic (to be fair though, she does live in Sichuan).

Maybe they should cast her as Mulan instead of this girl they chose. At least she has skills in crafts and cooking that would have been common in Han China. Just teach her to fight and use a sword and she'd be perfect.

Pass. No Donnie Osmond song? No Mushu? No love interest? This has been another episode of - eat shit Disney.

Is Disney still squatting on and suppressing "The Black Cauldron"? THAT would be the live action remake I'd want to see! At this point it would be right behind live action "The Great Detective", "Lady and the Tramp", and "Lilo and Stitch". Hey, wait a minute. THAT would be the perfect live action remake! A good CGI Stitch and the other aliens, Disney already has roots with Hawaii with their DVC property there, they did a lot of L&S backstory with all the cartoons and series. Easy to have a very diverse human cast as well. Get on it Disney!!

Now that I think about it some more, I wonder if all these remakes are to secure copyright or something on at least the Disney elements of these public domain stories, which is why they are focusing mostly on PD works instead of their own IP. They gotta know the PD blocking they've been doing won't fly in an era of social media so this is probably a long term play to keep their princesses and songs protected.

No Mushu
No "I'll make a man out of you"
The lead actress shills for the Chinese Government vs. Hong Kong protestors

That's a thumbs down from me.

Like if you want that stuff watch the original movie..

I cannot understand people here. I saw the Lion King remake and it was really shit because it was the exact same movie almost shot for shot but worse.

These movies SHOULD be their OWN thing.

I'm looking forward to a new take on the story. It might be shit or it might be good but you're better off going in a new direction.

It was shit because it felt soulless. The voice acting was weak AF except for some characters. They changed some lines for the worse. The songs were weak, Spirit and Be Prepared? It was just bad all around which was shocking because Jungle Book was sooo good.

Here comes the money here comes the chinese money woop woop.

Best part will be the the melt downs from the T community when they complain how the movie doesnt bow down and suck T cock because the movie isnt going to be pro transgender enough and the mulan only pretends to be a boy she isnt a real T.

I already can see the articles and REEE thread about how problamatic the movie is and makes it seem like being trans is a costume you can take off at any time.

Did you just have a stroke when you typed this nonsensical vomit?

This film looks really good visually, like, really darn good. Everyone complaining about aspects from the cartoon not being in the live action film, I'd assume that they are going for a more accurate telling of the original story?

no black representation? in fact, zero diversity at all by the look of it.

I see how it is Disney
Good point.

It's basically 100% Chinese people, and half of them seem whitewashed with good English and fake-ish foreign accents.

Where's the lesbos? Where's the stereotypical big strong Black guy? Where's the fat white guy for comedic relief?

I will watch it just to see how Disney took on this film.
I was never a big fan of the original, not sure why but it just never hooked me. I am a Lion King and Aladdin man.
This seems to be a high quality Wuxia film but with Chinese people speaking really good English, so I am intrigued just because of this.
I guess to some, any depiction of China that is not fitting of 'disgusting trash authoritarian disease plague' is seen as "pandering" though.

How long until they delay this movie because of the Corona virus? It's going to bomb at the box-office without the Chinese market.

That is a excellent point , will they even risk letting people gather in large groups unless the Corona virus is eradicated?
It looks like it's not getting any better soon in fact seems to be getting worse by the week.
