Multiple independent sources reporting FFVII remake for PS4

Then you must consume more hype. This game has been rumored and teased for forever. It is time.
Well, on the other hand I remember that thread from last year about "ShinRa Technologies" with CLOUD-based improvements for game-streaming. Supported by AVALANCHE studios.
Maybe it is in development.

FF14 is there.
It has a major expansion announcement but that's the only thing new there. They have revealed most of the info already and the expansion is launching within a few days. Besides, it was also at the forefront at E3 2014 which makes sense given it is an important MMO for Square Enix.

Kitase and Toriyama have been silent for a while. If this rumor is true then I guess we know their project...
Kitase just released Mobius Final Fantasy.

I was thinking SE is remaking FF7 also, because the game has yet to release. He laughed on stage. No new news concerning the remake. So, I am going to believe!

This may be true (big if) but if it is there is no point in announcing it until 2016.

They still have over 2 years of development plus other games to come out first.

It makes absolutely no sense that they would port the game and then release this soon after.

Would Square really bother making a game as huge as FF7R without making a XB1 version?
SE just doesn't seem like the company to leave money the table. Unless Sony is footing part of the bill.
This isn't the 360 gen anymore. It's actually practical to ignore Xbone if a developer wishes except it's fairly cheap extra change so they don't for the most part.
But like you said, it's likely they have a deal going with Sony if it ends up being exclusive.

Yeah they started working on it after the backlash last year and it'll be released in '17, because a FFVII remake would have a shorter dev cycle than a Call of Duty game. Sounds legit.

Dec 2014 to Dec 2017 = 3 years. Not too shabby

I know this isn't the best comparison but I'm sure they were not happy with the sales of type 0 on Xbone, thing sold abysmal. I'm sure whoever wants it would buy a ps4 for it.

This makes little sense to me after announcing the PC port. And if people think it's been too long since that announcement and something must be up, just remember that the FFX remaster took 2 years to come out.

I'm all for them remaking it, just not getting my hopes up.

I actually believe they're working on FF7 for the PS4.

...a port of the PC port with the HD mods installed.

And that's it.

*weeps*

If they price it right, people would still buy it, especially with a new translation. The original is pretty much constantly charting in the classics charts on PSN after all.
I would buy the port, and then preorder a copy of the remake even if it cost $150 at launch, and yes I have a problem.

I don't think they would announce this before the PS4 port has come out. that's basically saying "don't bother buying me"

PS4 port was supposed to be out in Spring. We have heard nothing. Given the incredible volume of anger it produced, and that it has the highest volume of dislikes I have ever seen on an official Youtube video, I don't think it's completely beyond the realms of possibility that they have scrapped the port as is to work on it more, as a semi-HD version. All they would really need to do is change the character models and update some enemies. They have done this for every preceding game at this point, which adds to that possibility in my view.

I hope It's true anyway.

it would be an amazing reverse troll if they came out and said "So I hear that at playstation experience you were hoping for something else" then rolled remake footage. I dont actually believe this though.

Even if they are doing it, current Square Enix Japan is never gonna be able to finish it.

Maybe if Sony is helping or developing it themselves. Still, Sony is helping with deep down and that has gone nowhere.

There's no hope to ever see this being released. The announcement repercussions will be the best "game" we'll "play".

As usual, first question I ask myself is "Where is the army of developers needed for this huge project?"

Staffing is a finite commodity, and increasing headcount is difficult to do without taking those resources from other projects, recruiting heavily and/or partnerships with third parties.

In short, it tends to be noticed!

Unlike movies and shows where often humongously gigantic monsters can apparently "sneak up" on victims/protagonists and catch them unawares (!), in the real-world of game development big projects are very difficult to hide.

It's probably just gonna be PSP-level graphics blown up like the Type 0 port. Even if it's true, you guys are setting yourselves up for disappointment again. There's no way it's going to be a complete rebuild of the game.
