I work in Oak Creek, and I woke up to a text message from one of my friends saying "Hope you're not working today. if u r, stay inside safe" Was totally confused at first. Still have no idea where this temple is actually anyway.

It's on Howell down the street from the airport.

I actually work across from the airport, too.

Sikhs are a minority in India, the reason why they immigrated to Canada, US and UK, is because of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, where many of them were killed by Hindus. Additionally, the Indian government launched a raid into their main holy place called the, "Golden Temple". "Operation Blue Star," was a complete disaster for India.

There is still some racial tension between Hindus and Sikhs to this date.

To add a bit of colour to that, the main immigration wave to the UK was in the 50s/60s to fill the postwar labour shortages. If anything, the 80s led to a massive resurgence in the Sikh identity here.

My own family survived Delhi through the grace of their non-Sikh friends but their is a simmering resentment that justice has not been delivered the victims.

I work at a hospital in Milwaukee and hearing them call for mass casualty standby over the intercom was depressing.

I mean really imagine what is going on in the head of the shooter. Why would you want to do that?

If you hate your life so much just put the gun in your mouth and be done with it. Why do you have to take people with you? How can you hate a bunch of random people so much?

I guess I answered my own question, hate for others .... just makes no sense to me.

Srry bringing this up w/ my dumb ass avatar btw I am being serious though.

I don't think anyone of us can imagine what it would take to hate people so much to kill them like this. It's so far beyond where my brain can go. So sickening.

Yeah fair enough and now is probably not the time to get into this anyway. I just hear this guy talking on the news feed and felt so bad. He almost went to temple today before a cop outside told him to get back inside his house because a shooting spree was going on.

You'll never understand these shooters, I think if you truly did, it would be time to get some help yourself. They're on a wavelength that is truly sociopathic.

Kind of glad I don't understand them after you put it like that, sometimes I wish I could of met these people and tried to talk them down.

Yea, my dad was a journalist back in those days and he actually covered those riots just days after I was born. My mom insisted that he stay home, but went out on the streets of New Delhi to cover the riots for PTI (Press Trust of India). It was just horrible...these type of wounds will take generations to heal. I think finally after two decades India is heading into a positive direction in regards to multiculturalism.

The policing system and corruption in India is so bad that those victims will sadly never get justice...same goes for Gujurat riots and the recent anti-immigration riots in Assam. No wonder why all the minorities in India want their own state....

That weirdo in spiderman outfit, that video is from like July. He just changed title to get hits, or he's just retarded. Or both.

look at the post date. Either the video was posted as is a month ago, inside knowledge, or the guy is just a cunt

I view the anti-Sikh riots differently than Gujarat. They are similar to the Bombay riots. The active government/ruling party individuals were much more involved in gathering mobs and feeding the frenzy in those two.

At this rate we might as well open up a megathread "Shootings USA |OT|"
Noyoudidnt.

But I too am musing about what caused this. Is it related to something in American culture or not (attitudes? Guns? Something fostering mental illness?).. But then I think of shootings in Norway, stabbings in China, etc... And I have no idea. Could just be a human race thing. Or a modern culture thing. :(

We probably won't know anymore since the shooter is dead.

Listening to Radio 620 (for once) and I'm just so damn angry. I want to drive down to Oak Creek and help, but I don't know what I'd do and I would probably end up just getting in the way.

There will be plenty of time to help in the weeks, months, and maybe years from now as they try to recover. For now just stay where you are.
