The Dutch documentary has all this.
A tough watch and yes he was on heroin. Burned down his own house.
From Niandra Lades, the majority of the songs were written and recorded before, during and just after Blood Sugar Sex Magik when John was an occasional drug user but absolutely not a drug addict. Bit of a misconception about that part of the album. Usually Just a T-Shirt was recorded when John had drug issues but he only became the drug addict in the documentary after becoming extremely depressed, which was sometime after he recorded most of Usually Just a T-Shirt.
Smile From The Streets You Hold was a mixture of old songs, one even being from when he was sixteen, and some others from his drug period. When John was severely addicted to heroin he wasn't in any position or frame of mind to play his guitar. It's something of a misconception about that period of his life that he was all drugged up recording and releasing weird music, because he basically couldn't, hence why he released that album, a mix of mostly old songs and some more recent ones.
