Once I made an orchestra play dubstep.
Nice OT! I really like the Space Butterfly song
I'll post my soundcloud even though I'm just an amateur: https://soundcloud.com/risis-1
Mostly electronic music, all of them made in Reason 5. Any feedback or criticism is always appreciated.
Nice looking OP. Hopefully we'll get some more folks in here and get a nice little community of music makers going. I do some synthpop and dark ambient/drone/noise stuff. I've recently purchased a guitar and my fingers hurt.
Excellent! I've toyed with the idea of making a thread like this for a long time but never did it. I'm really glad you did! I hope people contribute and keep it active.
I'm working on an instrumental metal album right now. A lot of the stuff is in-progress, but I just threw a demo up because I'd like to contribute to the thread.

There's a lot of stuff I know I need to work on, but I'd love any feedback on it anyway!
Things I need to do: fix my guitar. Or buy a new one. Or both.
And I need to write more. I wish I could do lyrics, that'd make everything so much easier. At the very least I wish I had a band.

I'm so glad that someone made this thread! I wanted to make one similar to it for a while (and a few years back, I did). I have quite a bit of things to shill.
I'm in a band called Sons of Origin. We're a Pop/Rock group, though we can play anything, really. I play percussion, sing background vocals and currently am playing keyboards. Here's our first music video for a song off our first album, called "Nothing Left To Lose": http://youtu.be/OhMf1BBKe8s
Here is a Spotify link to our first, self-titled album: http://open.spotify.com/artist/6v3rFLS2ONAMYeSUpSRvyf
We've started an acoustic cover series on YouTube. Here is the first one, a cover of Hozier's Take Me to Church: http://youtu.be/LviICy7jmag
We've also done Lorde's Royals, Bruno Mars/Mark Ronson's Uptown Funk, The Foo Fighters I Am A River, and Jesse J's Bang Bang. Don't worry. We don't do a straight note-for-note cover of any of these songs. We often change the feel, time signatures and styles for the covers. They sound different, almost like originals in a few cases.
I'm also in another band, Tom Cintula and the Buffalo 24. We're more of a Pop/Folk group, with some Rock and Funk influences. Again I play percussion and sing background vocals. Here's a video of us playing an original song called "In Your Head" at the NYC Battle of the Boroughs: http://youtu.be/q3wMvZdYkSU
This is also another (acoustic) original called "Why" for an audition tape to NPR's Tiny Desk music concert series: http://youtu.be/5vtTRZY5JDA
This is a Spotify link to our EP, Slow And Steady: http://open.spotify.com/album/2VI6VpJT7LayRk8wOfS6as
I also have a Jazz group, called The Mode Collective. We don't meet that often, but when we do, I sing and am the band leader. Here's two videos:
Lush Life - http://youtu.be/seR4KsAeq-4
Sweet Georgia Brown - http://youtu.be/QcY9Y3LfL3I
Here is a ReverbNation link, with some full-length tracks that I recorded, like All Blues, Tenderly and Work Song: http://www.reverbnation.com/themodecollective
I perform in many more bands/groups than this. But I don't have too much media readily available. I will be updating this thread when I do, though.
Just got done listening to it. It's really well mixed. Sounds professional. I like it.

I make electronic music in Cubase, most of my stuff is on my SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/maumaumusic quality is mixed. i'm trying to improve.
My last big project was part of the soundtrack for psyscrolr for Wii U (by GAFfer Ashodin). Some tracks like the main theme I'm pretty proud of. https://soundcloud.com/maumaumusic/sets/psyscrolr-ost-1
You make some reeally groovy stuff. I like it. Looks like you just need experience in mixing melodies without them clashing, or sounding too bunched up. That comes with time. Keep it up! I hope to hear more!
Also, I used to use Reason 5 a few years ago. I liked it a lot. You can have a high output, just because of the ease of use. I ended up going back to FL Studio though because I need the Massive VST. If Reason had VST support I would've stuck with it.

Thanks. Yeah, I really feel like things can go really far with that band. We're gonna play a few Showcases down in Austin, Texas for SXSW this March. So wish us luck that it helps!Sons of Origin definitely has a good sound! All it takes is one song.
My favorite out of everything though has to be The Very Thought Of You. Listened to that one three times.
Yeah, those guys are all very talented, and are very influenced by The Beatles, specifically. Also the Foo Fighters. But they always write with harmonies in mind. I just find a third harmony to add to the guitarist and bassist (who are brothers and the primary songwriters), which doesn't take me long since I have perfect pitch, and off we go. A lot of fun playing with such talented people.Welp, all this is freaking great. I love the vocal focus of Sons of Origin. It's great when groups put a lot of vocal texture into rock stuff. It makes it much richer than when you just have a lead singer do a double or a harmony in the studio and call it good. Seriously awesome.

Funny thing about The Very Thought of You. It was done in one, single take. We didn't have much time left in the studio at that point. We had to wrap it up, but we had the time to do one more song. This was the song. I had only played with the drummer a few times before getting called into the studio to sit in. Never played with the pianist or bassist (and haven't played with them since). I had also not sung this song before that session either, though I knew of the song. That's the life of a working musician, though.
I like Psyscrolr's OST, the main theme is really nice. I also love your remix of "Ruins", great track
Did you do all of the tracks in that playlist for the OST that you linked? Summer Feeling is so good. Really digging the OST. A lot of the other tracks remind me of Castle Crashers, which had a lot of good, memorable stuff. Great work!
There is ONE SONG I've been DYING to get an instrumental of.
This is the song I'm talking about. I don't give two shits about the lyrics/singing. I love that smooth instrumental. It's so soothing. I've searched for years. An instrumental of this doesn't exist.
Would anyone here be able to recreate said instrumental?
Be careful what you wish forThanks That's my hope as well, I just saw a big gap in music making on here. Where there are only a few threads where people post their own music, and the people who make music that doesn't fit those threads don't post it at all.
Can't wait to hear some music besada!.
Be careful what you wish for

New beat I just got done with. No samples, all original.

Digging this beat, especially the middle portion. Very soulful and them drums though...
Another one. Different style. I'm on a roll today. I don't remember my last two beat day. lol
Trippy blvd
Absolutely love this one.

For those who don't know, we're trying to make a free compilation album of music made by gaffers, this is the thread if anyone wants to take part in it:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=905669
(the theme of the album is collaborations, but solo tracks are fine too)
I would love to do space music for a game.Awesome! I feel like this would fit perfect in a top down space adventure game.
Also, what is the difference between a condenser mic and a dynamic one? From what I understand, condensers offer better sound quality, but are more fragile compared to dynamics. Is that it? How pronounced are the sound quality differences?
Rösti;153524423 said:I mainly do noise music, but sometimes remixes of popular electronic music. Currently not working on anything, apart for some branding, due to lack of creativity. But I'm hoping to get a few more tracks done soon. Some of my music is available on Soundcloud (temporary artist name): https://soundcloud.com/konformism
Deadline for GAF Tape 2 submissions has been moved back to April. I'll make sure to contribute something.
(Here's the first one if you somehow never heard of it http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=840776 )
Argghh, I really need to get back into my music. All I have that is half decent (I hope) is something on Soundcloud. I really need to practice more.

It's rough (single take) and I'd only been using an ebow for about 4 hours!

They're two music production threads now, so i'm posting this in both lol.

Would like some feedback/criticism. It's incomplete (not to imply i'm planning on working on it more) so that end is a bit abrupt.
Oh man this is exactly what i was looking for, a community to work with and post progress.
im pretty inspired by the japanese scene so i started out with some sampling of some artists like shiina ringo, maya sakamoto etc.

the hunt for good vsts is kind of annoying....
Here's a dumb little groove that I did awhile back and never did anything with:

I'll try to post some newer stuff soon. Been on vacation so I haven't been working on anything for the past couple of weeks.
I'm way into this! I'd love to hear some more if this if you've done anything more recently. And yeah, finding good VST's is pretty hard. I have to get a VST into a mix with a bunch of other sounds before I can tell if its a quality instrument or not. Sometimes it just needs other stuff to work against and other times it's just a shitty VST. I've actually been mulling over the idea of just grabbing Komplete and calling it good, but there's a really big part of me that doesn't want anything to do with paying that much money for virtual instruments. The most I ever payed for a plugin was a $50 drum kit.
