Music That Is Incomprehensibly Bad To You

Loads of music is shit, but I'm elitest like that. In particular, people treating video game music like it's actual music that people should give a shit about blows my mind. I try to imagine the person listening to the Yoshi's New Island soundtrack and my mind cannot comprehend it.

Metal is pretty silly as well, it's like if you were a painter but only used black. There are other colours! Use them!

Pretty much any music made past 1995 or so, with the exception of EDM (at least house/trance).

Country, rock, rap, pop, you name it, all are genres I used to like (if not all of it, at least some of it), but I don't get it any more. But probably the worst is metal.

It used to be heavy music, but comprehensible. Now it seems to be just about grunting/snarling and playing as fast as possible.

Do you mainly listen to the radio? What kind of music did you like? Im sure I could find you some stuff that you like from recent years. Theres some good shit out there.

I can't reject an entire genre of anything. I've found things that I like and dislike in all types of music.

Yeah the guy pumps it out at an insane pace. Are there any good entry points for his stuff or noise in general?

Whitehouse's Bird Seed album is pretty good both for abrasively loud and exceedingly creepy. Haus Arafna's Butterfly has more diversity than a lot of noise albums and I'd say is pretty accessible. They later went into a more Minimal Wave style, toning down the noise, which also really good. Navicon Torture Technologies has some almost beautiful noise but his songs could consistently be 2-3 minutes shorter and he'd have much stronger albums.

So yeah, I definitely tend to prefer power electronics to pure noise.

Honestly I can find a good song in any genre. But I will say the whole screamcore, deathmetal stuff...I have a hard time finding anything enjoyable in it; I mean there are like 1 or 2 songs I like, but overall...it's the genres I have the least amount of music from. There's another genre that I don't understand at all; I'm not sure of it's name but basically it's a complete disregard of rhythm or structure. Someone on GAF linked some stuff from it once and I just couldn't understand how it was considered music without any sibilance of structure or rhythm or pattern or anything.

Eh, I'd say it's pretty safe to say crunkcore isn't and never will be for me. I still kinda see where it's coming from, though. I don't think there's any music, even music I consider terrible, that I can't at least see where it's coming from. Even Apator.

i'm a firm believer that there's good music in every genre

music elitism is for the young and naive.

I'm old and cynical, what are ya gonna do?

And of course I haven't heard the tropical freeze ost, does my avatar wear a fedora and have big animu eyes and shit?

Video game music is for people who are so into nerd culture that they've collapsed in on themselves like a black hole of awful fucking taste. They probably have exclusively videogame themed t-shirts and watch Let's Plays while eating cheetos as well. Leave the house, go to a gig/club/cigarboxguitarhoedown, live some life.

Elitism may not be big or clever but at least I have a cracking good record collection.

I am of course a hypocrite since I love the Sword and Sworcery ost, but it still doesn't get as much play as actual legit music.

I dislike most low sounding wind instruments like tubas and stuff because they sound like farts. So, pretty much any music that uses them gets ruined for me. I also get irritated by picolo snare drums that are too loud in a mix. Sorry, for lack of examples.

I try to be as open as possible to new music and I believe there's (at least the potential for) great music in every genre, but I don't like Reggae very much. Same for country/folk music. I used to dislike Rap but that's changed pretty dramatically over the last two months.

errr... i'm not sure a we3 avatar is any less embarrassing but ok.

also, i promise you my lp collection trounces yours. i've been to more shows, and my clothes make yours look like you bought them from kohl's. there's still good music in every single genre, including (gasp!) some video games.

Emo screamcore or whatever that scene stuff is called. Anything with "core" tacked on the end of it is usually trash

Metal is the Bach of genres.

Bach made terrible but mathematically complex music that people keep playing for no good reason

Hey, he had his moments of substance. BWV 639 is fuckin' sick

...I think you're maybe taking Jed a teensy bit too seriously here. Maybe.

My answer: any of those songs which a massive build up just to go into the most anti-climactic bleepy bloopy shitty synth hooks. It sounds like someone got a keyboard, poked a few random notes and was like YEAH THAT'LL DO. I don't get it.

New metal, emo and pop punk. The most conformist, non threatening, middle class, suburban garbage that has ever been created. I used to work next to a Green Day fan. It was sickening.

Bruce Springsteen might be my least favorite human being ever. I can't even explain why I hate him so much but he just makes me want to choke people. Iggy Azalea is pretty god awful for something more modern.

Stuff like this, yeah?

The music for that is actually really good, his vocals are pretty awful though. I imagine he was probably referring to something more in the vein of Metalcore such as this. I tend to actually love that kinda stuff, although I refer to it (thanks to friends shaming me) as "bitch metal".

yall should spin that sunbather album if you wanna check that genre out

and the new isiah rashad if you're(actually and not pretending) one of those insufferable "rap isn't music" kids

Elitist even. But really you sound ignorant and naive much more so than elitist. Especially when there are many videogame OSTs that are orchestral pieces. Trying to argue that orchestral pieces aren't music is like arguing that violins aren't string instruments.

Pop music. 99% of the shit I hear out in public sucks ass. The only pop songs I've respected in recent years has been Adele's shit.

My biggest pet peeve is when I go to ethnic establishments and they play pop music to appeal to white people. If I'm at a Latin restaurant then play Latin music or something. I highly doubt the staff is into Katy Perry and her garbage.

itt lots of people think all metal is death metal. maybe they think stuff like this isn't metal or something? dunno

for me, besides the obvious shit like brokencyde i really just can't stand most country music (especially modern rock/party-style country)

specific bands i hate also include steam powered giraffe and the arcade fire

Took the words right out of my mouth. Doesn't sound elitist but ignorant.

I really should stay out of music threads, this one has me screaming.

Jesus Christ, you are missing out on some incredible stuff. I listen to music from the following games regularly:

Halo series
Metal Gear Rising
Darksiders 2
Bayonetta
Skyrim
Shatter
Tekken Tag Tournament 2
Assassin's Creed series
Silent Hill series

I need to take a damn walk now that I've read your post. You come off as seriously uninformed and it kind of pisses me off to see someone be so dismissive of a vast spectrum of quality music.

Most rap, hip-hop, pop, EDM, trance, dubstep, country, death metal.

But I've found songs I like in every one of those genres too.

Never understood why people like Daft Punk. Their music does nothing for me at all. Aside from that there's not much I dislike. I can listen to pretty much everything else but I don't get the love Daft Punk gets... At all.

I can't stand the modern country music that's like the country version of pop, where female vocalists wail about maudlin nonsense and male vocalists play up their accents and touch upon the subject of pickup trucks at some point. I'm talking about the kind of garbage that's played on a loop in rural grocery stores.

They're not even playing up their accents. They're doing a stock accent. Everyone has the same one, even acts from SoCal.

Most of the time, Dubstep/Electronica/Club music does absolutely nothing for me, but I occasionally find a song I enjoy. I strongly believe every genre has at least some stuff worth listening too.

Holy shit, this is exactly what I mean.

I'm the opposite. I love pop-country (it's just plain fun, although usually pretty cheesy), old country music does absolutely nothing for me.

Like any genre, there's still plenty of great artists (most don't get radio play though):

Brad Paisley (He gets a ton of radio play, but he's amazing so I'm mentioning him anyway):

Probably one of the most influential acts of popular electronic music since Kraftwerk. They were the ones to introduce sampling in house music (the whole filter house movement in the early 00s stemmed from them), among other things.

Furthermore, they change their sound from album to album in an effort not to "repeat " themselves (as they often said in interviews), so it's not really hard to see the appeal.
