First off, it's always rough, especially when your finaling, to find out your game has lost its license. It hit us all pretty hard. Mostly because we truly felt MVP was the best baseball game we had ever made and that we might not get the chance to make another one. But it wasn't long before we started exploring our options and thought about making a college baseball game. There were definitely some risks involved. We would no longer have recognizable players. No more professional teams or stadiums. And this would be the first College baseball game ever. But NCAA baseball is getting more and more popular, especially with ESPN's increased coverage, and well obviously the "powers that be" decided to give us, and college baseball a shot.
Load and Fire batting - This was something that had been on the radar for years, but we never had the time to do it justice. Well since this could be our last chance at making a baseball game we decided to go for it. After MONTHS of tweaking and tuning, were happy to say that we think Load and Fire is something special. There is a bit of a learning curve, but with a little practice, your days of simply pushing a button to swing will be over. There are many of us on the team that played ball, some of us still do, and this is the closest we have ever felt to pulling the ball down the line or slapping it the other way. It feels sooooo good. We made the decision to make last year's hitting controls available for anyone that "fears change" but we think most everybody will be swinging with the stick after a couple of games or so.
Precision throw Control - Along the same lines on Load and Fire, we always wanted to implement some way to throw using the sticks. It just feels more organic. And again like L & F, we wanted the player to have more control over their destiny. Instead of just having a dice roll under the hood to determine throwing errors, we wanted throwing errors to occur because a throw was mis-executed. Now if you throw high, low, or to either side of your target, it's because YOU made it happen. Also a bit of a learning curve here, but once you get the hang, we have a feeling you won't ever want to go back. It wasn't easy and took lots of time to tune, but it ended up being a big win for us and something the team is very proud of.
