My coworker was fired for a negative post about the company on Facebook

This is bulkshit and said it since the crusade against a Adam Orth.

You are a person, you are entitled to believe and feel as you do. When you get home and do whatever on your own time should be your own business, until you are back on the clock.

It is unfair to hVe your company want you to tow the company line, while you aren’t getting paid.

if they want you to be an employee 24/7 they need to pay you 24/7.
Being a person with beliefs and feelings does not exempt you from the consequences of your actions.

Hm, I wonder what is worse publicity for the company:
> Having an employe moaning about the workload online
> or firing the moaning employee publicly and even confirming the though work situation

Its a stupid move to complain about your company online, but its also stupid to handle HR business online showing the world and the rest of the employees that they aren’t a company of 2nd chances.

Thing is your going to get some workers always bitching about something.
You have to admit most people are there just for the paycheck and hate their jobs.
Saying that it was dumb for the worker saying it online instead of taking it to the boss, pretty sure if they just aired grievances with the person in charge they wouldn’t of been fired.

I wouldn't be surprised if the company has a policy that forbids this, buried somewhere in the employee handbook.

If I went to my boss and complained about having a lot of work, he'd say "be glad, that work is what puts food on our tables, and the hours you bill our clients put us in a position where we don't have to lay anyone off or reduce working hours for anyone during these hard times in which our company made some heavy losses due to Covid." And I would say "yeah man, you're right", leave his office, and be thankful for having a nice job.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised to be honest. One of the metrics they use for evaluating our raises / bonuses is "enthusiasm for the company", as measured by how much we share company social media posts. So that should have keyed me in that they monitor that shit.

"[Company] needs to get its shit together."

I mean ... I'm not surprised. You can just not include the name and post whatever you want as long as it's not including confidential info.

For example: "Work fucking sucks today! So busy, what a trainwreck." This is no problem.

This should be a lesson to everyone.
