My friend broke my DS (sort of):(

I let my friend borrow my DS last week, and I got it back today, well, the system still works, but the thing you put your DS games in is screwed up. When I try to put it in, it will just fall in, and won't let you just push it in as normal. And when I try to take it out it won't come out by pushing it, you have to physically rip the cartridge out. The games work fine, but it's kinda annoying. Looking in it, I can see some prongs have been bent.

That's where you went wrong. I only let my best friend borrow any of my games or systems. Just because I know he is the same way about games. You don't let discs sit outside from their case. They're either IN the system or IN the case, no exceptions.

The two times I've let "others" borrow my games, they fucked them up in some way. One guy had my copy of MGS2 for 3 months and he let other people borrow it without my permission. Then the bitch tried to ask if he could borrow Kingdom Hearts...I couldn't have possibly said "FUCK NO" louder. The other guy also borrowed MGS2, but he got some sticky crap on the disc case, I don't even want to know the story behind that. So now I know that most Metal Gear Solid fans can't be trusted. :lol

I don't know your friend, but it sounds like he got confused about the process of putting the cartridges in. I guess he just started pulling and it stripped something...sucks for you. I'm not really surprised. Somebody that doesn't know anything about the DS might try to pull it out as if it were a GBA game, instead of pushing.

Should still be within the store return policy window (Christmas time, gotta love it). If they have more they will likely just swap you out.

...I mean, I usally don't borrow portable console to my friend because of the screen (fingerprints, scratchs, footprints, etc). The DS got TWO screens!!! and the PSP got a HUGE screen and since you can are sure that the littles babys will have minimun one scratchs (not made by me, im crazy) in the return process, borrowing them should not be an option!

Wow -- I am loathing my DS more and more with each passing day, and consider it a glorified $150 GBA (nicer screen, twice the heft!), but THAT would absolutely make my heart sink.

I stopped lending people games ages ago... tell 'em to get a Blockbuster Games Pass!

Yeah, I learned this years ago when I let my friend borrow Pokemon Blue after I had his complete understanding that you *can't* overwrite the save. I don't believe he did, but he never told his sister not to. Yeah, what a foolish gesture that was. Pokemon is not one of those games you can enjoyably replay.

I hate to say this but your friend sucks for treating your stuff like crap, and then not telling you he fucked up your $150 system. I'd ban him from your borrowing list. or do what I do and don't lend out expensive stuff.

I've had at least four games - that I can remember - get screwed up or lost by letting people borrow them. Lost a piece or two of hardware as well.

Incident A: I lent someone my Mortal Kombat 3 (for the PlayStation) to someone and I never got it back.

Incident B: Someone borrowed my Tekken 2 - just the disc - and never saw that again.

Incident C: Let a buddy borrow Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo, he brought it to work, and someone stole it off his desk. Mind you, the person who stole it works for IGN, because that's where my friend had it stolen.

Incident D: My best friend borrowed Kingdom Hearts, and by the time I got it back, it was scratched to shit; scratched so badly that I can't even trade it in anywhere.

Incident E: I got a friend and his roommates a GameCube for Christmas '03 and lent them my extra GC memory card until they got their own; they're still using the card.

Incident F: A friend needed to borrow a PS2 controller... I hardly ever see them, so I doubt I'm ever getting it back.

I'm pretty sure Nintendo's usual return policy still applies to the DS so just send it to them. Now experiences will of course widely differ but when I sent in my GBA SP last year to be replaced it took a total of 5 days to get a new one. Those 5 days include the day I delivered it to the authorized Nintendo technician to the day I received my brand new unit in the mail. Definitely take advantage of that opportunity since stores have a hell of a time keeping the unit in stock.

Oh and Blackcherry is absolutely right, with these new portables and the massive amount of screen real estate both have it'd be crazy to lend them to anyone.

Unfortunately I don't have the receipt; I bought it launch day. Should I just call Nintendo and tell them I have a busted DS?

A receipt isn't needed since the warrenty is for a year.

Use this to see if your product is registered:
https://www.nintendo.com/cpp/repairs/warrantyLookup.do

If it isn't then log into Nintendo.com and register your DS.

Now use this page to setup a repair:
http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/repair/repair_form_us.jsp

I however suggest you find a local repair center and use it to send your system since they will send it ASAP and Nintendo will send it back to you all free of charge.

Use this page to locate a Nintendo Authorized Repair Center:

This is the warrenty if you need it:
