My analysis of the Project Durango aka xbox one

The console literally had no technical advantages over the PS4 i'm aware of. About PS5 vs Series X you could say its SSD speed for example.
Xbox One's CPU is slightly faster, I guess? Maybe?

PS5 GPU also has higher pixel fillrate than the Series X thanks to higher clock speed etc

My analysis:

1. Initially, they underestimated Sony as a competitor.

2. They assumed Kinect would attract a more casual audience, so no first-party games were developed by internal studios, relying instead external publishers first-party titles.

3. Their primary focus was capturing the TV market.

4. In terms of hardware, they opted for the same fast cache chip formula, which was not powerful enough to support 1080p resolution.

5. The Kinect hardware added an additional $100 to cost, and it was imposed on consumers.

6. The always-online and the policy against second-hand purchases were significant missteps.

7. Ultimately, greed and a flawed understanding of audience desires led to their downfall, from which they never fully recovered.

Proposed solutions:

1. Launch a console with at least two strong exclusive games, followed by the release of more exclusive titles.

2. Regarding hardware, they could have retained the chip excluded Kinect.

3. Focus on acquiring better studios and produce more first party titles.
It's a good analysis, but if you'll allow me, I'll comment on the three proposed solutions.

1- When it comes to Microsoft, the most important exclusive is Halo. Making GTA or COD an exclusive would be impossible. Companies usually launch their best game after the video game has built a base, because doing so at launch can compromise the game's sales performance. I think they made a good choice with Forza 5 (Forza 4 was a success on the Xbox 360, while Killzone 3 had poor sales on the PS3). Dead Rising 3 sold well, almost 1:1 with the console (DR was a powerful franchise). Unfortunately, Ryse flopped.
More games? More games are always welcome, but at E3 2013 Phil Spencer said that the internal studios were producing more games than on any previous Xbox.

2-Regarding the hardware, I understand that fate was sealed from the moment Sony got the additional 4GB GDDR5.
Every console that fails fails because of bad choices in hardware development. The biggest mistake was the price. At no point was the Xbox One designed to be cheap for the end consumer. The Xbox 360 Core would be something like $350 in 2013 and the Xbox 360 20GB would be $475 the problem is that this time the PS was cheaper $399 which made the Xbox One seem much more expensive than it actually was. Regardless of the PS4 price, the truth is that no Xbox (with or without Kinect) would be able to lead over the Playstation, especially at $499 (they underestimated Sony as a competitor).
3- Again, Microsoft's internal studios were producing more games than on any previous Xbox up until that point.

but it doesn't change anything because the gpu suppresses the difference, the ps4 has 40% more gpu and that translates into 30% more fps or resolution in well optimized games.
here is a benchmark

I don't need to watch any videos, I already know the differences.

PS4 specs are part of the reason why I bought a Radeon R9 270x back in the day

They had all the money in the world in the form of a literal blank check from Gates.
Nothing is more lucky than a blank check and permission to make a game console.
the concept of ''luck'' as defined by me is as follows, market research is done and games are produced but for x reasons people reject that game.
All consoles that fail have this characteristic, you know, nobody enters this market saying ''I'm going to do a strategy that will fail'' things aren't like that.

Officially, Xbox was created to stop Sony's PS2 from taking over the PC market.
The Linux kit that turns a PS2 into a PC is what sparked the concern.
MS would have a hard time selling Windows licenses if lots of young people became familiar with free Linux based OSs.
PlayStation never took over the PC space so from where MS stands the Xbox move worked.
There's an interview with the founder of Xbox explaining the whole thing.
