Today marked my mothers tenth anniversary whereby she was officially in remission.

Go Mom, and here's to another ten years.

Having said that, I strongly urge as many as you to consider putting yourselves on your local bone marrow registry list.

This list will be used internationally, and you have the opportunity to extend someones life.

To do this, contact your local blood services clinic and they will be able to point you in the right direction.

For Canadian GAF'ers, here's a link you can follow:

Had someone not been on the registry when we needed it, my life would be a completely different book all together.

I've been thinking about donating blood, but I'm O negative and they'd never ever stop calling me.

How do you transfer bone marrow by the way? Seems like it'd be some hardcore surgery.

Is the marrow donation thing for after you're dead? I heard marrow transplants are ridiculously painful.

Marrow is donated while you are still living.

It's extracted, usually from your hip, with some local anesthetic and a big long needle.

It's a weird feeling. When I had to give a sample, I felt like someone was lowering a metal press on my back.

Depending on your resilience, you'll be sore for about a week and a half afterward.
