Have we entered a new phase in reality TV? Getting a glimpse at the life of spoiled bitches and bastards is the new "getting a glimpse of average Joe and Joanne"?

(The Fabulous Life Of..., The Simple Life, that new show about that mother and daughter, etc.)

Anyways, I don't know WHY the fuck I kinda like this show. :lol It's like, I love to bitch and moan about how spoiled those kids are and how much they don't appreciate what they already have (if you've seen it, you'd agree), and how they have their parents whipped, but I can't turn away. :)

I left the States in the summer of 2001, just as the reality show boom was happening. I'm so freakin' glad I missed out on it. I just hope it peters out by the time we come home.

That chick that had like 200,000 spent on her party was so hot. And such a whiny brat, but so hot. "Daaaaad, mom cancelled my credit caaaaard" :lol. Balance at time of cancellation = $8500.

Reality TV should be dying out by now. I am starting to get concerned. Why do I get the feeling that 5 years from now, I am going to turn on the TV and find one of three things on every station: News, Reality Television, or CSI spinoffs?

It's not dying; it's evolving. :lol

I saw one episode with a guy in it. WTF kind of guy wants a "Sweet 16" party? I'll tell you what kind of guy! The kind that love cock!

Yeah...WTF?

And his dad spent 250K on him...ON A FUCKING PARTY! And said he wants to do it again...

Renovation shows.

the show is fucking ridiculous.

I wanted to ram a nail through the eye of the girl who had her credit card cancelled.

Ths show will do nothing except make normal girls want to have huge extravagant parties that they'll never be able to have, which will only upset them, and then Linkin Park will be the only people that understand them. Fuck, this show is just a way to get Linkin Park even more popular. FUCK YOU, MTV!

I wanted to kill the kid named Hart. He lacked any sort of personality and was only liked because he was FILTHY RICH and minus the HIDEOS braces he was a decently looking kid.

His dad is a puss too. He overlooks the fact that his son is a complete loser, takes his girly sass, and then spends a quarter of a million on his party. If I saw Hart's scrawny ass on the street I'd defenestrate.

Yup. In the back of my head sometimes, this voice pops up that says that our current cultural fascination with voyeurism is actually an elaborate piece of social engineering designed to make people even more unhappy with their own lot in life and create ever greater social unrest. Really, when you think about it, what good does showing all these programs do besides making most people feel like shit for not being able to give their kid a $200K party? :lol It leads to a perverse "keeping up with the joneses" mentality on a grand scale, and in fact feeds right into our fetishistic consumerism:

Mother: "Hmm, well, I can't really afford this $400 dress for my daughter, but I don't want her to feel like she doesn't have anything, so lemme just put it on my card."

Father: "Hmm, I can't really afford to but my son this $7000 car for his 18th birthday, but I don't want him to feel as though he doesn't have anything nice, so what the hell-- I'll take out a loan for it."

And so the seeds of our discontent are sown. ;) :D

Really, these shows represent everything that is wrong with our society in my opinion. It's gotten much worse over the years, too. When I was young, we had "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" once a week as the only sort of voyeurism on TV. Now, shows like this are on every day at every hour on some station or another (MTV, E!, Fox etc.). Disgusting. I could write volumes about it, but I'll let you use your imagination. :P

holy crap a loki post short enough to read!

i totally agree, dude, but i think for the most part we're all so screwed here in the US that if we choose to stay, the only thing we can do is ride the rollercoaster that will probably result in our untimely deaths at the hands of revolutionaries

I don't get it: the father let her dress like a stripper, but had a BODYGUARD make sure no guys touched her while dancing.

WTF???

Sadly, you're probably correct. :D I'm already afraid of what Raoul is gonna do to me when the time comes... ;) :P

I love how the girls at the end always say, "My parents spending all this money on me really shows me how much they love me."
